John Richardson forever, thanks for posting this song, I met Alan Williams and John Richardson when the Rubettes came to Nottingham concert Hall, I had a photograph signed by both Alan Williams and John Richardson, would dfdefinitely go and see the Rubettes again, please come back to Nottingham, so many happy memories of this song.
That would have been incredible having your picture taken with Alan and John at the time. Hopefully they come back to Nottingham and that you have the opportunity to have another picture taken. :)
Brilliant live performance!!!! A little bit of effect on the falsetto makes it sound even better.....but you still got to be able to hit those notes.....bravo Alan, bravo!
Que simpatía que gran humor, siempre alegre con tu eterna sonrisa, cuando sales al escenario alegras los corazones de toda la gente, por eso se te quiere muchísimo.Yo soy una de ellas aunque no te haya visto nunca en directo.TU SUN.
WOW, so glad I came across this now in Feb 2020. I know that Alan only mimed the song back in the day to the incredible original backing on tape of Paul DaVinci but it appears Alan is actually singing here. I wonder why he didn't sing earlier with a great voice like that? Did I miss something through the decades? He was hitting all the crucial falsetto high notes perfectly here. I wonder why he had to mime back in the 70's? Anyway, I'm 59 now and recall this VERY fondly from 1974 when I was 13. Brings back powerfully good memories for me. Thank you Alan and all the Rubettes. Cheers from Sydney Australia!
Because his vocal range doesn't come close . Paul is 3 1/2 octave range . You need your ears tested if you think it's the same . and there's something suspect at 2:59 , Alan starts singing and a mysterious second falsetto kicks in.
@@rabfallon4507 I heard that too coming in a split second too early on the falsetto not sure if that could be classed as a delay or what it was I would love to know...probably still miming on the falsetto ..the gag order that was placed with the original singer Mr.Paul Da Vinci has been taken away years ago in the 1980s and he now Alan needs to credit him the credit he took off him for over 40 and made money on the back of it.. to me Alan is a fraudster taking credit and STILL not crediting Mr.paul Da Vinci who sang the original..... shameful after so so many years..alan needs to dig deep and find some dam humanity
@@rabfallon4507 His range DOES come close, since Alan was not allowed to sing the song live on TV (contract with the producer and Paul the original singer of that only song) ...So close that when Alan decided to give it a go later, live, you couldn't notice one single difference between his performance and the original. Here on stage nowadays, IMO Alan sings it for real, BUT there's an additional vocal, wich is a common trick for decades (and more than 40 years later, for a man still singing that well, with that superb falsetto, is a detail really)
3:18 would put the argument to rest. He is 100% miming and not even miming well enough to cover it. You can see that he stops miming while the falsetto continues
Lucky those who were at this concert by the Rubettes. It would have been absolutely enjoyable. It is terrific listening to this song in concert after all these years. :)
Belíssimo vídeo, versão maravilhosa de SBL, John dando um show a parte e Alan como sempre lindo, cantando demais, só falta alguém falar que é um tal Paul Da Vinci.
There are no backing tracks. The keyboard player (Mark at this time, now it is Steve) uses 2 keyboards and mainly plays 2nd guitar. As a musician I can guess that one of his keyboards is a sampler or a sample player. He uses it very rarely. Unless you know him personally or you are in the Rubettes team it is impossible to say which parts he triggers, probably some additional drums or "Aaaaah" yet I'm not sure at all. As I already said in french to me what you can hear at 3.00 is too much digital delay and reverb, as you can hear more or less all along this track. I saw and shot them on another live performance, I was so closed to the stage that I almost didn't record the PA sound system, only direct sound and it sounded even better. A falsetto/head voice is not so difficult for a good singer; check my YT channel you will see other recent live performance from the Rubettes, and you will also find a french band playing live Sugar Baby Love and Mighty Real, amazing, isn't it ? ruclips.net/video/nqmGSb6HXqI/видео.html
Alan Williams does NOT use a backing track. I've seen them live many times. He can reach the high notes just fine. Go and see them before making assumptions based on other peoples comments.
Are you kidding me?? Brilliant with the falsetto live ... wow!!! Loved the Rubettes - literally grew up on them!
To still be doing it after nearly 50 years is fantastic
50 years??? Oh my God... am I that old??? 😮😂❤

Brilliant live performance!!!! A little bit of effect on the falsetto makes it sound even better.....but you still got to be able to hit those notes.....bravo Alan, bravo!
'@Lea Morgan He is not ''hitting the notes'' is he! He is using 'Autotune' and a backing vocal with added reverb.
Elê é fantástico!
CLINT PONDEROSA ......who cares....he sounds bloody great!
