I have been waiting for someone I like to review this amp, but I didn't expect it to show up here. This is by far the best sounding review so far, but I guess that's what I have come to know with this channel. Keep killing it!
I managed to jag what must have been the only one left in Australia and it arrived a couple of days ago. It sounds awesome and what has really surprised me is how small it is. It's only a little big bigger than my Princeton 65 RI. In many ways it's quite similar, just louder before it breaks up which is what you would expect.
I just got the 68 Custom Pro Reverb this week. Phenomenal amp. I use it with the UA OX, both as an attenuator, and with the cab/mic/room modeling. From clean to dirty drive tones, it's amazing. I much prefer it to all my blackface and tweed fenders. Definitely my favorite amp.
Thanks for the beautiful demo, as a fender bender, I am sold, definitely my AMP GOAL NEXT!. As a CLEAN player, this is where it's at for me (two thumbs up)
I agree! Some of your intro pieces are just symphonic! The Idiotbox Dr Tremolo and Echo Chorus pedals, and the... Is it Spiral Electronics Allura Darlington fuzz? Those pieces are Dionysian, dude! Love 'em!
Man this sounds great! At first I didn’t get why they made it smaller than the old ones but I get it now. This one is more like a big Princeton compared to the old one being a smaller twin
Got mine the other day. You’re right. It’s amazing in every way. Definitely the best tone I’ve ever had. It makes my pedals sound sooooo good as well. My amp tone quest is on pause for hot minute now. It’s just so professional sounding 🤤
@@drewdemaio4162 There certainly is a bit of hiss. It’s more noticeable at it’s gigging sweet spot which is probably between 4-5 on the volume. To be honest though, even at that volume I don’t find it to be all that bad personally. Not finding it to be as hissy as the deluxe either. That’s just for me personally. If you get a chance to try one definitely do and hear for yourself.!
I purchased one of these amps several months ago even though I have generally shied away from the MIM Fender amp products. My experience has been that the MIM amps typically have unusual noises that aren’t the guitar or pedals (particularly associated with the tremolo effect in amps that have that). So I tried several of these units at different stores until I found one that was absolutely “noise” and “hum” free!😎. It is a great amp and is quite good as a gigging amp due to the 40 watts of power. It would be my favorite amp but it comes in second to my Fender ‘64 Custom (hand wired) Deluxe Reverb with just 20 watts😉. Recording or just enjoying some good times with my guitars? I pick the ‘64 Custom😎. Gigging? I take the ‘68 Custom Pro Reverb! PS - While I have experienced occasional issues with the MIM amps, I absolutely love the MIM Strats and Teles, particularly if I can catch one of the Factory Special runs of these guitars. And by the way, love the demo, particularly the pictures of the amp settings!
I have been on the hunt for a good Fender amp, something in between the Princeton and the Deluxe, and the Pro Reverb is the one. An attenuator can be used with this amp, so bedroom levels are an option now as well. Great guitar playing as well 💪
Curious. In what way do you rate this amp as “between” a Princeton and a Deluxe, when it’s twice the wattage of a Deluxe? I would think of the Deluxe as the amp that sits “between” the Princeton and the Custom Pro.
Just got one after selling all my vintage amps. It really is a perfect modern recreation of my old Bandmaster I had which makes sense cuz they were basically Ss rectified OG pro reverbs
Great demo! Loved that you showed the different settings of the amp; and the fact that you demoed it with fuzz and delay. Sweet pug too! God, I want this amp!
i conditioned the power in my studio. it has it's own breaker box and everything. so it definitely helps. other than that, it's the old find a spot where the interference is low and try not to move!
I just played one of these for the first time, with a 57 reissue strat, and it was almost religious. I've only gotten lost in the sauce once like that before and it was when I found my 74 p bass.
Something to note - because of the wiring of a Deluxe there is sort of a pre set mid level of what would be about 6-7 on the mid knob. There was one point where the mids were set on the Pro at about 2. So it definitely would sound much more scooped there than any of the Deluxe clips. This is directed at many of the commenters. Great video!!
yeah it sounds great. i found an open box custom 64 handwired princeton a few months ago so got a few hundred bucks off. its awesome. sounds exactly like my vintage snob-friend’s mint 65 bfp. minus all the issues. vintage amps are a pain in the ass unless you have a lot of time, money and a personal relationship with a great tech that will jump on your stuff and not make you wait weeks. i’d rather play the amp than troubleshoot it. the fender custom stuff is great. the handwired ones even better. imo
@@DemosInTheDarki simply don’t believe old stuff sounds better than new. tubes always sound way better than digital depending on the application but digital tech is awesome for different reasons. it’s all good and i can’t stand cork sniffers who sneer at anything that’s not vintage. except for bukovac-he gets a pass... but we all know he would sound exactly the same no matter what he played thru. plus he plays all kinds of new shit, too, cuz he’s a practical guy that plays the stuff for a living. old gear-when it’s well-maintained-has a kind of visual and tactile mojo for sure-hence the relic guitar market of which i am a fan-but it doesn’t sound better. it just doesn’t and it ain’t reliable. even when it’s well-maintained. period.
Had to replace the output trans and caps in my 2204 about two years ago. Mercury magnetic did the trick, having a good amp guy helps with the vintage stuff.
I really dig the videos. I am been spending months trying to figure out which Fender amp to get. I've been leaning towards the 68 pro. Are you still using yours? Any follow up thoughts? Can't decide on 68 pro, Blues deluxe,65 Deluxe reverb or even the 57 custom Champ. So many options. Thanks again. Take care.
Owning this amp for a year, Im compelled to say its that particular guitar. I hate sharp harah highs, and with my guitars Im not getting it Hope this helps
Anyone experience a great amount of hum with this amp with the volume at 5 and on? All the reviews I’ve seen sound so clean. I’m still in the return window, please help!
different power tubes, different speakers and different speaker sizes. they're definitely different. i've had a few questions about the deluxe vs pro, so i'm gonna call fender and see if we can get one in for a shootout! woooooo!
not hand wired, not boutique. i don't do a ton of mass produced stuff on this channel. i make a few exceptions and fender always humbles me with their top notch gear!
It's a Fender, gonna take 'em great like a DRRI or Princeton or Twin or 68 Custom Vibrolux... Why pester the man? Besides there's a fuzz and a deep delay here at the end... Did you get that far? The strength here was hearing how it sounds on its own. It's a very classic and classy sound.

Is it "hissy" at all? I heard this amp produces high levels of hiss. That the case with yours?

thanks for the insight!!
Great fuzz pedal choice, it sounded awesome 🔥
tough to beat the caprid!
Love the Strat
Sounds amazing! What kind of genres and guitars would be best suited for this?
Sounds good. I have heard others say it felt stiff. A tube rectifier would have rectified that.
* I don't need another amp, I don't need another amp, I don't need another amp *
Glad that chant is being echoed by someone else :)
Literally just having that conversation with myself!
yeah but...
Thanks for your video content... always excellent. How does it compare to the 68 Deluxe Reverb RI... better?
i am gonna call fender this week and see if we can't get one over here to sort out that question!
What a magical amp. Did you find there was a break-in period for the speaker?
Great demo! What about Strat model and pickups? tks
Fantastic amp and awesome playing! What overdrive is on for the solo at 2:58? Thanks.
hey thanks! that overdrive is 100% amp!
I freakin Love this amp!
it’s a good one for sure!
What delay were you using?

I’ve got to get myself one of these! #muffafuzza
Is the a '68 or a '68 reissue? Because the reissue doesn't have a Schumacher output transformer in it.
Great demo! What made you reluctant to try it, initially?
umm, for the most part i do hand-wired, point to point amps here, so this was a departure from that.
Hi,the fender 68 vibrochamp 5w is good for playing pink floyd and jimi hendrix srv please ?
Do you think is a great upgrade for the hot rod deluxe iv. I have one and its awesome but I would like to improve the sound?
oh yeah, absolutely! hot rod deluxes are great, but only to a point. this is definitely a step up!
How do you crank that sucker without blowing your ears out? Loved the video.
i have an amp room! it’s pretty dang loud!
big upgrade from a champion 100??

hi! hello!
Nice review
How did you mic this?
thanks! TLM67 and C414XLS
How would you compare this amp to the Deluxe Reverb Reissue and the Princeton in terms of tone, etc? Are they all basically the same sound?

Think this would be good in a band setting with a loud drummer and keyboard player? (Bassists included heh).
for sure! it’s plenty loud!
Question, Can you drive this amp with a pedal at a lower volume for band practice?
for sure!!
I picked one up. loving it! Thank you for the review and advice. @@DemosInTheDark
Wow... What fuzz did you use with the Tele?
all amp overdrive!
Is this as suitable for bedroom playing as a Princeton? I play clean
at 40 watts on the pro reverb, i'd stick with the princeton for bedroom playing.
I gotta say I was a little baffled when you said in the intro that you were not initially keen on doing this demo... Not a Fender fan at all?

oh there’s plenty, it’s just not GOOD.
yet another video which tells us bugger all about how well that amp takes pedals
that’s not true. there are two, time stamped, sections in the video dedicated to pedals.
