It's because most people need more females than male and a lot of people will hold back females too and not having as many to sell and needing more than the males both probably keep them going for higher.
Females can only mother one clutch a year. Males can sire multiple clutches. Therefore, breeders need more females than males, and as such, there's a higher demand for females. Higher demand=higher price.
I just found a pastel freeway on Morphmarket and was totally stunned. I don’t want to get into breeding anytime soon, but goddamn, that morph is impressive! Like, dream snake.
I think freeways are even harder to hit because its impossible to tell yb from asphalt and you need one of each or you get ivory or super asphalts instead! Fine if you start from ones that came from supers and know for sure which you have.
I've been trying to breed my female lemon pastel leucistic and I've been trying to figure out what to breed her with to get a clutch that will hold its value. What do you suggest?
I think single gene recessives even only somewhat hold it, but if they are 100% or even 66% for basically any other recessive or at least one Codom with it it's crazy how much the value jumps. I'm coming from the boa world (not super experienced but heavily studied for a year) and recessives that are quite old hold value for much longer there, let alone basically any combos, but boas are much harder and take way longer to grow up etc. I hope to possibly breed some BPs a little bit once I found out it takes much less time to grow up a female, let alone a male lol.
I remember buying my first 100% Het Pied pair from Michael Jolliff back in 2007 for 2100 shipped. I missed my 1st time breeding them made 5 eggs and none were pieds. I sold the babies for 125 each back then and we hit our 1st visual Pied in 2009.
I got into crossing yellow belly genes because everyone loves a super- the white snake- easy 2-250. You can play around with the additional genes and the ‘worst’ thing you’ll ever get is an ivory. Working on leopard and pastel highway projects with my super yellow bellies right now.
I've noticed a lot of very active ball python breeders have shut down their pages or have left them idle with nothing available for several years. Has the breeding industry slowed down in your opinion? Has covid affected sales? Prices seem to have gone up as well in some cases others down. Perhaps because of limited availability? The market just seems so different from 4 years ago. I've noticed that the live reptile auctions are practically non existent. Has facebooks ban on animal sales affected the industry?

Hi Chris I have a question for you? I have just recently purchased a ball python for the first time ever since December. He has eaten four times now but still hasn't shed. Should I be worried about this? What should I do?
Hey Chris i have a question I have 5 females I’m attempting to breed this year I started pairing them November 1st I can’t afford a fancy ultrasound at this point so will there be a point in time where I will absolutely visibly be able to tell whether they’ll lay eggs or absorb follicles? If I remember correctly you start pairing a month before for me winter hits a little sooner for you but say you start pairing oct 1st when do you start seeing eggs and what’s the time range between your first clutch and last? It doesn’t have to be exact just say like an average over your few years of breeding

Last question Chris I swear: what do you use to keep the humidity at the right level for balll pythons(to get it up or to go down) Bigger water bowl? Are humidity boxes good for all the time or just shedding
I'm surprised bamboo wasent on this list. They are not nesisaraly cheap. Good video though you should do a video about the highest value holding co doms considering the vast majority of these were recessive
Co Dominants are tricky, if I had fifty females I could produce hundreds of Bamboos and tank the price in a single season. Can't do that with recessives. Most big breeders know better and even with codoms will only produce a limited amount to keep the prices from really falling fast. Still, there's too much risk with a co dominant gene to guarantee it will hold it's price in the coming years. A collection with a mix of genes is the best, some fall fast, some hold on strong.

Had a question I need help with, So I just started breeding. I have 4 snakes so far, and all were friendly one is a little on edge, then In my top tub, I put rats in it cuz at the expo I bought 8, and stuck them in there. Now all my snakes are biting at me and getting defensive when I go to open the rack, is it because I put rats so close to them so they’re always smelling food ?. There’s one left. And after one of them eats it I’m Cleaning the tub out and not putting any more in there
And I put my male and female banana together, they both were being a little odd the male was striking at me, I got him In her tub and they’ve been just staring at each other in striking positions
If they smell food constantly, and they will eat as often as you offer food, the first warm thing they see (your hand) they will consider food. Snakes competing for food wont be interested much in breeding as they will consider each other competition for their next meal. As far as I know.
josded thanks a lot man, so if I get that rack cleaned and that rat out of there will that get rid of the smell for good? Or any tips for me to get that rat smell out of my closet
@@WolffPaccx generally, yes. Clean it out really good with soap and water, then spray it down with something like chlorhexadine to kill any odor-causing bacteria. Wipe clean and then rinse again with water for good measure and the scent will be gone. What you are doing is a good tactic if you want your snakes to be ready to eat. It is called "prescenting" and is normally done the day of a live feed, or as a F/T mouse unthaws.
@@WolffPaccx if you are really paranoid that the smell has infested other parts of the closet, buy one of those baking soda fridge packs and set it somewhere where your snakes will not be in danger of contacting it. It is a passive odor filtration system and wont leave the fridge pack if you open it correctly. It should eliminate the rat odor completely, but unless your rats escaped or somehow shot pee or estrus outside of that bin, this step is completely unnecessary. The scent should go away entirely on its own, and if it doesn't, the absolute safest thing to do is to locate the pee, droppings, fur, or whatever is smelling up the place and remove it. Keep in mind that baking soda is a fine powder and can be a lung irritant for snakes if not handled properly. Never use loose baking soda to deodorize, just to be safe.

Ball pythons are HORRIBLE investments. For those of you who are new. Here is where ball pythons used to be so you can see how much they have plummeted. Why? Several reasons but greed mostly. 😂i bought a spider ball in 05? (Somewhere around then) for 40k from NERD. Bred it to a Ghost, Albino. Produced the first spider het ghost (for sale). I put that baby male up for sale for 75k. I got offered 75k in trade from Tim Rainwater (rainwater albino geckos). Well one of those animals in the trade was a new snake called a "yellowbelly" 😂. It was valued at 4k. I got $20k wired into my account within 33 minutes of puting it up for sale. I got $89k Total for a Spider 100% het ghost. What is the moral to this story? BALL PYTHONS ARE HORRIBLE INVESTMENTS FOR LONG TERM. .. what is the cost of a 100% spider het ghost now and a yellow belly? Actually even for the last 5-10 years. Their prices have plummeted. Too many people, yeah yeah "supply and demand". No, its people that arent business people that are hobbyists trying to sustain a "financial market". It was never going to do well from the start. Morphs are only worth buying when youre the first few people. And Africa is spent, there is rarely something new coming out of there. I used to import from Ghana, we don't even bother anymore. Normal "RARE" SNAKES are the best investments. Look at snakes as a stock. See how many are out there. Etc ...

I have a female pastel clown ball python, surprisingly only got her for $200 CAD. She’s such a beautiful girl though, amazing morph
That's awesome!
Have you ever been to a NARBC reptile show?
I've been there twice as a visitor, never had a table though.
I have everything but tri stripe ugh lol
Damn that monsoon looks a Burmese python sorry i cant think of the morph right away. But im sure u know what im talking about
How long after ovulation do they take to do the pre lay shed
I really don't track it that much, usually a few weeks after my first snake ovulates I peek in every female tub twice a day to check for eggs until they all are done laying.
Chris Hardwick thank you
I love your videos. I would love to own a ball python some day and possibly get into breeding....but for now the videos are fun. Thanks!
why would a pet depreciate in value? is this oriented to collectors/breeders?
Woot
I lucked out and bought a guys collection I got 3 pieds het orange ghost hatchlings 2 lav/pins hatching an female adult lavender het pied and female adult het pied/orange ghost Enchi het pied hatching PastelYellow belly het albino hatching Adult female champagne het albino adult male albino for 700 dollars pretty amazing
Nice!
Chris Hardwick ya pretty sweet but waiting for them to be breeding size is so hard lol I got a cinnamon female breeding to my butter spark and same male with kind of a dinker project that’s all I have breeding this year but next year is going awesome
I just bought my first snake. I was told she was a queen bee. Is that a recessive?
You can go to Morphmarket and search for Queen Bee and it will separate the genes for you.
Co dominant with the lesser and pastel and the spider gene is dominant
hold up. pied's have not been that expensive. whoever bought them for that price got scammed.
Clowns are now $200 a pop 😅
So if you have a male pied and breed it to a albino female I’ll get albino pied
No, you'll get normal looking snakes that are double hets. You'd have to breed the double hets together to get a visual.
Chris Hardwick appreciate it !
Anyway I can email you?
I don't do email, I only respond to comments under my videos LOL
If I send a pic, could you possibly tell me me balls morph?

No ball python is worth more than 1000
That's what I used to think LOL
Chris Hardwick they are like iPhones the newest one cost a fortune and when then next generation comes out the old phone drops price
Justin Tyler Fish except a ball python can last you more than a year so go figure buddy
Not Oryx touché
Surely you jest...
Etc ...
