Great artist that she is, I cherish the memory of reading how she dissed Lady Bird about Vietnam at a "white ladies who lunch" affair. And no one has every played Cat Woman better, fluff role that it was. She always has this firm center and self-knowledge that makes everything she does have lots of influence.

She had the audacity to ask pertinent questions to Lady Bird. The society hens were not going to allow anyone to interrupt the party. Let alone this regal Black woman

I’ve heard that Eartha Kitt actually taught dance to stars but I actually have photos of her teaching dance to little girls.

For generations, our elders 'made us' stand in front of audiences in segregated schools and in the black church and make oral presentations. Yes, it made us uncomfortable at first, but we learned how to become comfortable speaking in front of any audience. I don't see young parents of today encouraging this. and I'm not sure that's good. Black entertainers of today are standing on the shoulders of extremely talented ancestors who had to endure ridiculous indignities and had to scratch and claw to create opportunities for themselves.

We do recitations at my school, borrowing directly from the Black church. It makes a difference in students' confidence and ability to tackle rigorous work.

This is so true. I was so uncomfortable and now I can speak in front of any audience. It all started at church.
