I'm thinking that "circle" was originally a part of the stage at the Ryman. Whenever I see it, I think of the song "Will The Circle Be Unbroken". I got to work at Opryland back in the '70's as a grounds keeper. I was taking a break with a fellow grounds keeper behind the Grand Ole Opry House and met Roy Acuff as he was going inside.

Great job. Brings back memories. I was there in the mid 80’s. I could see the seats we sat in. About 3 rows from the stage. Had a great time there. That was before they built all that stuff there. There used to be an amusement Park called Opry Land. and it was lots of fun. It was a lot better then. Be Safe!

I live just over 2 miles from the Grand Ole Opry. I knew it was there but did not know they had moved out there so long ago. Before Opry Mills was built (that is the mall) we had Opry Land . It was an amusement park which was closed in the late 90s. My father and I had speculated years ago if the house you mentioned was part of the old amusement park. Seems there also was some sort of empty space near the house that we speculated was one of the old rides. That was back around the turn of the century. Likely the empty space is no more. Back in the early 80s my sister and I would head out to that area to see "The Waking Crew" who played perhaps in the Opry. I was young so I don't remember the details.
One thing I have realized from your vids of the state capitol and Opry is just how much wealth is in this city. I don't share in that wealth so I guess its just not apparent to me. Perhaps that is why Nashville is called Nashvegas.
Well, this post is getting too long. Thanks Russ!

Thanks for the tour. It is very unlikely I'll ever make it to Nashville so this is the closest I'll get to the Opry House. The artists don't wait on the side of the stage you mentioned. They take the stage from the side where the announcers podium is located. Sometimes they may leave on the opposite side. Natalie Stovall was standing on that opposite side from the podium during the live streams while Covid was affecting the performances.

One of the reasons for the move to the current venue was capacity. Ryman seats 2362. The Opry a house holds 4400.
Currently, the Ryman hosts 200+ events a year. The acoustics are said to be second only to the Tabernacle on Temple Square in Salt Lake City.

So so so glad you enjoyed , I have been many times back in the eightys and nineties . Mother I would jump on 4 or five day tour bus. And depending what time of year the decorations would suit the season . The shopping Mall has just as much to see, and you didn't buy anything it was like a garden show and sometimes live radio shows , interviews and sing , a wonderful time. Mother and I spent little to no money in those places. WE take pictures maybe buy a drink of pop or coffee, bag of candy and just have fun. As you drove in that was all there parking for the park which back then you could easy have 12to 15 shows around the park when it is open.... lose of great music.
All those stairs is how they can fill the with people open all doors and out you go. Meanwhile down in courtyards people waiting walk in sit down in 15 mins turn around 4 shows a day. BUSSES line up along street unload leave and busses pickup and are gone just like clock work. It truly is amazing to watch. Get lost nop your host never leaves you she takes you in and to your seats and out again. Glad you enjoyed.

They allow the tourists to go into Roy Acuff's Dressing Room, Room #1, because Roy always had the door open and enjoyed having people drop by his Dressing room and visit with him.

I've been to the Grand about 10 times and got to meet all the ole timers. I was backstage nine of those times . No more---way too commercialized now. That down home feel is gone. It really is sad the way Nashville has turned out... All about the almighty dollar! That is sad. My daughter got to sing on the circle. It meant so much back then. Now it's all business and less reverence. Dues? Artist don't pay their dues anymore. No need to comment, this is how most of the ole timers feel too...

ain't going to an outlet mall unless i really need something. i don't mind paying a higher price for quality, but i do mind paying lower prices for junk.
