Standing there at Skaggs’ dressing room door while he played Uncle Pen, I seriously had to pinch myself. All the other performers were standing there too, nudging each other and grinning ear to ear.
Canadian here. The Opry was a capstone feature of my trip to Nashville with my (fellow guitar-lovin’) son. A week of live country music every moment of the day. And at night and the early morning, live in our hotel room-I brought a dobro and a banjo!!!🇨🇦
The David Crowder Band played at our church 12-15 years ago. I don't remember exactly, but they were a great band. I played in our church band, so I got to hang out with him for the whole day. We played guitar together for an hour or so. He is a super nice guy, and a great songwriter/musician.
Opened for Kentucky Head Hunters a while back. Also got invited to play at the Grand Ole Opry but got bumped two days before the show…. Sht happens….lol
Guitologist this has got to be one of your best videos, I’ve always loved The Kentucky Head Hunters, and being at the Grand Old Opry is such a treasure thank you for this wonderful video Brad!!!
Hahaha yeah! That exact phrase kept swimming around my mind... I was definitely transported to the backstage of the Ol Opry while watching this. Thanks Brad for buzzing around for us!
@@TheGuitologist hoping your medicine cabinet ain't looking like Brundlleflys. Mine is running out of room for shriveled body parts falling off but I got a few years on you.
Hanging out with Charlie McCoy. Charlie use to use me on sessions when I lived in Nashville. A true musical genius and an even greater human being. Kudos Brad.
@@TheGuitologist yea man, I played in the band Barefoot Jerry with him along with Wayne Moss on guitar as well. I just didn’t know how blessed I was at the time. I learned so much about music from those cats. How I wish I could live those days over again.
What a cool experience, thanks for sharing Brad. I bet that was a surreal feeling walking backstage and around the corner there’s Ricky Skaggs and his bluegrass ensemble.
That was a ton of fun Brad !!!! Thanks SO much for taking us along ..🙏 You are the man. Who needs SPF , when your rocking with INCREDIBLE content like this … UNTOUCHABLE !!!!!!! 🤠🎸🎶🤙
You know Brad , with the fairly recent passing of Joe Chambers , maybe a new approach to the channel could be , you traveling around , doing the backstage thing , combined with short interviews with these legends . Every bit of modern relevance can only help these greats gain even more popularity . And certainly wouldn’t hurt your channel I think. 🤔something to think about at least.
@@TheGuitologist Man, with everything going on, it was awesome that you were able to get away for a while. What a great trip, and to see, smell, touch and hear the history there must have been incredible! I have several stories of similar things that happened to me when I was a younger man, and still playing in bands. Don't ever forget 'little' things like this, because when you are 15-20 years older, these moments will become big things in your memories.
Hi Brad, I was there for this event sitting in the second row! Charlie McCoy (another train song, if you would!), Crowder (those Elves, though), KHH, and Ricky Skaggs - What a night. This is better than some documentaries. I love the way that everyone's family at the Opry!
Country music was huge in the 80s, I grew up in the country on a farm and had a love for those old country hits. Hank Williams, Hank Jr and now Hank 3 and Hank 4, it's amazing 4 generations of great music makers in one family. But I used to love watching hee haw. All them great pickers, gave me a love for country.
Awesome Brad! I've been around the Headhunters too many times to count but at the Opry! That's awesome! This one really makes me feel at home! Thanks for bringing us along! 👍
I lived in Kentucky for five years after getting out of the Army at Fort Campbell, and my one regret is not making it to the Grand Ole Opry at least once before moving back to Texas. Awesome video brad and a fantastic glimpse into a piece of music history. I may be a proud Texan, but those Kentucky hills and that Tennessee whiskey will always have a special place in my heart.
Charlie McCoy I used to listen to the 8 tracks in the back of the station wagon as a young kid. He is awesome, And I used to cover Dumas Walker back in the 90's and I'm a rock guy.
time well spent and this made me smile a lot ,thankyou for putting in the effort brad, i hope you had a fantastic christmas and wish you all the best and more for the coming year fella, time is always precious ,and when musicians get together its even more valid ,good work, thankyou !
The headhunters are an awesome band. I love their version of walk softly. That must have been a real treat to go to the Opry with them. Hope you had a nice Christmas Brad!
It certainly was. Hanging out on their bus there and back, talking about the Native American artifacts they’ve found on their property and stuff. Had a big ol time.
Wow, the history of that place, the stage set up is fascinating, tilt backs for the amps, isolation walls and monitors for the back up singers. Stage volume is much lower, no in ear monitors here! W he at a trip…..thanks Brad!!😮
Cool. I've done a couple of load in/load outs for these guys over the years. Done so many shows they all run together. Never really officially introduced. But cant help but rub elbows goin in and out.. You get a feel for what kinda people the artists are. I do remember they always seemed gracious, respectful and appreciative towards my crew. Good people... Looked to see if l could direct y'all to a video l shot and upliaded behind the scenes of a load in we did for them. Think it was at Oak Mountain Amphitheater in B'ham. Unfortunately it's private on my legacy channel. Which, for whatever reason, RUclips decided a couple years ago that l am no longer me. WTF? Now l cant even access my own original channel to make settings changes. Sometimes l hate what this platform has become.

Wow is all I can say ! You are truly blessed to be in the presence of such greatness ! Great job on the video ! Happy New Year !! Big hello to them Head Hunters thanks guys !
he was talking about hank jr in 90 - i saw that tour - they were great , but hank only made it thru the first verseof guitar man before he threw the thing down and stormed off stage . i was thinking he was more of a jim beam man that night .
Wow, thanks for this video, Brad! I'm originally from Louisville, so it's cool to see some Kentucky music. Also, I learned something! I'd never seen an amp stand like that, before! The Enhancer! I've looked them up, really cool idea! I've got a '68-'69 Vibro Champ here that I'd like to try with one of those Enhancers!
Oh I loved Grand old Opry but I would never be allowed on that stage cuz as soon as I started playing like Paul Kossoff they would be angry as hell.....
What a treat. I couldn’t imagine hanging with the Kentucky Head Hunters and then seeing that dressing room jam with Scaggs. My god.
