I am 60, when I was 16 my parents bought me an entire Craftsman tool set, and 3 stage tool chest. I still have all of them and use them on a very regular basis. Great tools back then, but since I have never had to replace them, I have no idea what the new ones are like
Dude! Keep them! They’re family heirlooms now. The new craftsman after Sears sold off the rights to cover their debts after those vulture capital firms got a hold of it skeletonized the hell out of the tools, out of one Old school Rachet they now make three of them much weaker and thinner much lesser quality tool than the original
I have broken 3 "made in India" craftsman wrenches in the last couple years...I've now started buying harbor freight wrenches for the lifetime warranty in their Pittsburgh brand...I refuse to buy quality tools for my job, as they always get a target painted on them to be stolen...
Man I’ve never broke a Pittsburgh pro wrench socket or ratchet. I stopped spending tons of cash on hand tools ages ago and started using Pittsburgh. Pro stuff. Their quality in tools has went up a ton.
Something I've experienced with similar type of ratchets and not limited to any specific brands is that the lock/release button comes loose and fall out eventually thus meaning that it does not hold the socket or extension in place anymore. Unfortunately that is the way almost all ratchets are made nowadays.
Thanks for the video Chuck. I scan all the pawn shops and flea markets for old Craftsman tools. Got to have wrenches in both trucks, the mule and 3 tractors.
I stopped dealing with sears and craftsmen when I went to order some parts for a lawn tractor and they said I had to pay with a credit card that they didn’t take cash and you see how it’s worked out for them I now have a cub cadet lawn tractor and pay cash for my tools at harbor freight
Tekton tools are my new favorite tools had crap-on mac matco and SK the tekton are affordable and good fit and finish. Best bang for the buck replace all of my mortgage payments paid cash for the New tekton been 31/2 yrs now no complaints forever warranty on them too!!!
I still have most of my original set of Craftsman screwdrivers I bought almost 40 years ago. There is a reason why they had a free replacement warranty on those.
I bought a craftsman ratchet set 5 year ago and they are are still working great I have also had good luck with Pittsburgh brand from Harbor freight. I’m not a mechanic or anything just use mainly on mini bikes and lawnmowersnn bc
I know we just got an IH 6200 grain drill it’s a weird drill .we were having problems with it plugging up when planting wheat. so I laidback on the platform and shook the 💩 our of the feed hoses.
A while ago I bought a few little Craftsman kits that were on super sale at an Ace hardware, a little 1/4in bit set and a 3/8 little Metric set. I put them in my car just to have them. While the 1/4in bits were iffy (one of the Phillips bits did not stand up to abuse and was basically ground down in like 10 minutes, though that may have just been because it was Phillips), the ratchets themselves have actually been fairly decent, especially considering they were only a few bucks. I used the 3/8 and beat the hell out of it going through the entire process of putting a water pump into a 2001 Ford Ranger; I hit it a few times, dropped it, got nasty fluids all over it, still works fine with no real noticeable wear. I wont depend on it to carry me through rebuilding an entire car, but as Wranglestar has said in the past, cheap tools have their place; spend a couple dollars on it, throw it in the car/truck, the boat, the shed, in a nightstand, next to your desk, under the welcome mat, in the bathroom, anywhere you could think you may need it so you aren't hoofing it without immediate access to your main tools.
I generally if I spend money on tools it’s Milwaukee tools. My power tools are Milwaukee, and I’m working on building a set of hand tools that’s all Milwaukee. But I generally just use Pittsburgh pro stuff. Can’t go wrong with their warranty.
I bought a 300+ piece tool set and so far 2 wrenches broke the sockets they sent was wrong I had blank sockets not marked and missing sockets with 14mm in place so they said ohh let’s just add a bunch of 14mm and take the other sockets 😂 not to mention the damn box opens randomly dropping all the sockets everywhere… terrible
I bought a Craftsman set I believe in 2001. It is still going strong. I just decided to try a new set and I bought Dewalt. So far the Dewalt seems really good.
Most of my Craftsman tools are from before 1995 so they are pretty good tools. I did buy a set of torx/hex bit sockets about 5 years ago and they are the softest, crappiest tools ever. I'll buy Harbor Freight before them. Now and then I hit pawn shops and pick up some snap on tools at greatly reduced prices.
Holy smokes. Is this you. I thought you were gone off the tubes man heck yeah this is a score if this is really you chuck. I use to really enjoy your old videos Huge thumbs up great video by the way
The new Craftsman stuff is pretty weak. I'm an old dude I have Craftsman from the 70's that still do what they do. New tools are rather disappointing. Peace Chuck, glad you doing good.

I have some GOOD Craftsman tools, but they are much older than you. Heck, I even have Sears Dunlap tools that are good. But today, that name is just another Chinesium tool brand.
@@lonewolftech Why's that? The old raised panel ratchets had a horrible selection switch that'd switch directions or into a neutral position, along with a 36 tooth count. Beyond nostalgia, I don't any advantage to the old ratchets.
Hey Chuckie! Screw that Crapsman stuff. Unless you have buecoup bucks to buy Snapon, buy Tekton. Much of it is made in usa by a Christian Palestinian family. Justin Amash, former congressman's dad started the company as Michigan Industrial Tools years ago. Lifetime warranty and they do it through the mail.....faster than the tool truck. I think that Tekton is occupying the space that Craftsman used to have, although they don't make or sell every tool like Craftsman did. I think a leaner, centralized warranty program through the interenetz and the mail is the way of the future....for good or for bad. It turns what used to be same-day replacement down at the Sears store to same-week replacement through the mail. For most of us that is still much better than waiting for the tool truck and still having to wait another week or in the case of some other brands, no warranty at all. One caveat: If you need flare nut wrenches, Snap on is better than anybody's.
Well, they sure aren't good anymore... chinesium made garbage. Nobody saw that coming for the majority of my life. What a pity! Craftsman was the gold standard for your average blue-collar man for the longest time. Note that I said "was". RIP Craftsman! - Max Giganteum

I purchased a set of Metrinch set to put in my tractor tool boxes. one socket works on metrick or std and grips the head on the flats vs corners.

As a military vehicle mechanic, I find that Craftsman ratchets become Crapsman after about three months.

👍
Craftsmen socket sets pre mid 80's are excellent. Newer ones not so much.
To compound "CRAFTSMAN" tool problems was the loss of Sears stores staffed with people who actually gave a shit. LoL
I bought a Craftsman set I believe in 2001. It is still going strong. I just decided to try a new set and I bought Dewalt. So far the Dewalt seems really good.
looks like my Cresent brand set $29.00 clearance @ Menards in 2006?

Snap in is junk to anymore 😂 same build quality as craftsman with their chineseium tools

The craftsman ratchets ate chunky gritty not very good when compared against a decent similarly cheap gearwrench 90t.

When I worked as a mechanic in the '80s and '90s, all the tools were excellent. Not so much anymore.
I have some GOOD Craftsman tools, but they are much older than you. Heck, I even have Sears Dunlap tools that are good. But today, that name is just another Chinesium tool brand.
From my experience for the money the Pittsburgh tools from harbor freight are cheaper and better than the new craftsman stuff.
Looks like the same crappy blown mold case when I got my first set of Craftsman sockets back in the 80's.
Project Farm did tests that tested the old Craftsman tools vs. The new ones. The new ones are junk in comparison.
I need new tires on my cars now ,,lol
I like the new ratchets more but that’s comparing a 40ish tooth to a 72 tooth
Love the new made in Taiwan stuff. So much better than the China made products. The ratchets are even better than the American made ones I have.
You must not have many tools then lol

I will never buy anything craftsman ever in my life again big time let down from that place
Craftsmans quality is not where it use to be.
For about the same price, I'd go with Tekton or Gear Wrench
Tekton is great

Snap on is pure hot garbage 😂😂😂😂😂😂 over priced shit made tools.
For decades Craftsman has been the master of making tools that are "just good enough" for the "Hobbyist" market.

Why does the title use the word wrenches when there are NO wrenches in the video only a ratchet and sockets?
