Glen was picking on Don Felder way before this. But what bothers me is him saying he had been paying Don for 7 years. Now that was beyond arrogant. Don Felder brought to the Eagles exactly what they needed. A harder sound. He was a brilliant guitarist and a productive one too. He earned his ownership and then some. Now to treat him as a hired musician is really bad. It continued after the reunion too.
Just sad really.
yep, brought them out of mediocre Hicksville!
True!!!
When we saw them in Vancouver/96, there were already reports of the grumblings.
Glad I saw them when we did. I will never watch any of their others without Felder, and that includes videos.
Damn straight!
The composers of the songs own half of the royalties....writing is more important than non musicians can understand
Damn you know it had to be bad, when Joe is the adult in the room.
dude 😂😂
That comment just made me snort!
👍👍👍😂
I love Joe. He is what he is - no pretense - just good old Joe.
That’s why I love Joe… All he wants to do is party and play… Regardless of what kind of state he was in he could always bring the talent and charisma..❤
Felder was a smart man staying away from politics 👏
Yes indeed!!!!
Especially that pr*ck of a Senator, who was part of the corrupt Keatings Five.
I don't disagree, but he was a b*tch about everything else. Bottom line: If the terms of the arrangement were good enough for Joe Walsh, who was considered a guitar GOD forever by that time, the terms should have been good enough for Felder. Felder could play, no doubt, but Joe Walsh was at least as good and with a better musical legacy.
I respect how Joe Walsh has always been able to steer clear of condemning statements for this event.
@@ScooterOnHisWay2024 Felder is not an employee of eagles, he's one third owner of eagle, if Don and Glen is doing something on the book then he has to do something about it, unlike Joe and Timothy which is only an employee.

I Don’t blame Felder for not wanting to be political
True!!!!
The problem I had with Frey's comment about him paying Felder for all those years is that, although that may have been true in the early years after laying the groundwork, it was Felder who came up with Hotel California which vaulted the group into immortality. You can't put a price tag on that.
Spot on
Yup👍
In the end, Felder did put a price tag on it! Sealed records but people talked of millions plus royalties to Felder.
Exactly. And I thought they were all equal partners.
id been content with just playing guitar in that band. felders out making an ass out of himself now. trying to sing and he is no singer. he wrote his little poor me book, he made millions.

True!!!
And he never makes a GOAT list. When he does he’s way down the list.
Yes, absolutely ! ... he's a great Lead Guitarist
@@jeromebukam1235Agreed!!!
Don Felder's guitar riff on 'Already Gone' back in '74 (DKRC) was one of the best I've ever heard in rock 'n' roll. The man could handle that guitar as if it were a part of him.
True!!!!
He still does..
And still the best.
I agree. The guitar work cuts through that song like a razor.
Don Felder's solo in "One of These Nights' is amazing. He makes his guitar sound like a saxophone. Brilliant.
You’re right about that!!!
I love his work in Victim of Love. Simply amazing. Oh, who am I trying to kid. I love all his work! It's almost comical hearing someone else trying to play his parts. Just knowing the notes isn't quite enough.
I can hear the solo in my mind note per note!
That solo is my favorite ever! I learned it note for note. Now if I could only play it I would be a happy man.
I'm still wondering how he did that four-note flourish on the end refrain of the song.
Can’t blame a guy for not caring about politics. Look what it does to people. Felder was right.
No one wants to be around someone who politicizes everything.
There’s a guy who works at the corner store and you cant even say hello to him without getting a lecture about the govt.
All things being equal, id rather be around someone who doesn’t utter a word about politics. If anything, ppl care too much about politics and what makes it worse is they arent really talking politics as they are just spewing off liberal/conservative nonsense they heard on CNN or bc they saw some goofy pic of Jesus and Satan arm wrestling
@@StuUngar I turn down the volume on the YT videos when I dont’t want to hear liberal guests talk. Let’s go Brandon.
It wasn't the politics that led to the issue. Felder actually agreed with Senator Cranston's politics. He just didn't want to play for free. And even that wasn't the true reason for the bitterness. Had been brewing for years.
@@legendaryTMNICO That’s a perfect example of people only hearing the side they want to hear.

If Joe Walsh says things are bad, …there must be serious shit going on.
I just don't like the way that he's treated Fingers since he left Eagles...
Don Felder was very instrumental in Joe Walsh getting sober. Joe Walsh is ungrateful and unworthy of Don Felders friendship ~ kimie
🤔 Joe Walsh and Don Felder were by far the coolest members of that band! They were the polar opposites of their 2 smug, arrogant, condescending egomaniacal band mates. Besides, Felder did a song for the Heavy Metal movie, which was cooler than any of Frey's solo pop stuff.
@@HighlanderNorth1 I love “Heavy Metal” by Felder!
Joe Walsh was absolutely the coolest member. Henley...... not so much.
Don Felder came up with Hotel California and when Henley heard it he says it should be done differently than the vision Felder had for it. Felder was willing to give Don’s way a try and says, You know what? Don (Henley) was right. Humble. That’s Don Felder.
That's not true at all. It's almost exactly as Felder's demo was written.
You e got it utterly wrong. Henley asked Felder to work the song up. He did. Henley said what? No, no no!
Turns out Henley wanted everything exactly as it was arranged and played…. By Feider on Felder’s demo tape.
You might be thinking of the "hell freezes over" acoustic version when they first got back together in '94. Felder "reworked" the solo there. I think I've seen a similarly worded quote from Henley back then.
Gotta side with Felder. YOUR politics are yours. Don't make them mine

Yes indeed!!!
How bad must it have been? 😂
@@isaiahmarquez9717 I know Right!!!!
What Joe is talking about is a very different kind of problem . Joe had Substance problems but was mainly only hurting himself but with Felder and Glen it was a deep resentment on the verge of violence onstage during a performance
When Joe said you got problems he was talking about the whole band not just Felder vand Glen
When you put it that way, yeah, that is a good point.
I remember at the end of an Eagles concert, exiting the stadium thinking how great a guitarist is Don Felder, what tone, the parts he plays -- one of the all time greatest guitarists i ever saw live -- it was a great great concert, over 3 hours long, best sounding band i ever saw live - i was beyond impressed by Felder's playing.
Awesome!!!
I recall these 2 dudes trying to learn Hotel California in high school. Walked by em every day. Never laughed or put em down. Just thot to myself: that's Felder's.. good luck!
And where are they now? Frey is gone, 😞Henley is moody, sulking over his fortune and always thinking everyone is ripping him off if they play Eagles music...
Don Felder? Loving life, loves making people happy by playing music. Down to earth true musician and gentleman...and it shows!

Joe Walsh was Ten times better guitar player and song writer.
Don Felder was a crucial, imperative and very important part of The Eagles, especially around the time of one of their most successful records, "Hotel California," (which by the way, he co-wrote) but Frey and Henley constantly treated him like he was just a hired hand, and nothing more. If anything, I give Felder credit for putting up with that sort of BS, for as long as he did, and for not smashing his guitar into Frey's head!

Don Felder co-wrote the biggest song of their career. Not only that but, his musical idea was the inspiration and catalyst for the concept beind the most successful album of their career.
Glenn Frey should have been thanking Felder not spouting off to him.
@@dr2675 he wrote part of a sign of a song he heard from somewhere else. That's all he brought and all he was good for
@@erikbutrick6581 What? He wrote the melody for Hotel California and the solos… The lyrics are great but the music is much greater…
Felder wasn't an original member. He probably didn't get a full cut.
How was Felder ungrateful??? He's doing them a favor playing a show for a politician. Most dysfunctional group ever.
I know, Cranston was the one who needed to be grateful, (and Cranston DID express it). Frey's accusation made no sense.
@@Johnny-lr5jt Black Sabbath members fought with each other before concerts. Deep Purple, a shitload of bashing each other while demanding their 15 minutes in the spotlight on every song live, every member.
@@Johnny-lr5jt Sorry, meant for Daniel
I wouldn't have wanted to do a fundraiser for any politician for any reason. I loathe politicians
ALL of them are dirty, no matter which side that they are on...
Felder would agree I'm sure.
I agree with you, T. Joseph Yoakum. All politicians do is win popularity contests and generate paperwork. They never really produce anything of any value. Some do, but that is rare.
Agree
Especially one as crooked as Alan Cranston was..I don't blame Felder one bit.
Joe Walsh is epic, people always waited for his solo’s. Am glad they all got back together at some point ❤
According to Felder and sources, he was a major contributor to the Hotel California’s whole structure (period) and I believe that as a huge fan of the entire band. And to see him depart from the group is tragic. He is to me The George Harrison of Eagles. Pretty much says it all.
Well Harrison had the best solo album of The Beatles. Felder didnt. But I get what youre saying.
Very cool comments from both YAs thx!!
He was more than a major contributor to Hotel California, he wrote the whole thing, save the lyrics, and had it on a demo tape for the band.
@@urbangorilla33 True!!!!
Except Ram runs circles around ATMP.
Just watched this entire documentary yesterday and it is well worth the couple of hours of watching. Very insightful.
I cannot help seeing Randy's angelic face among these guys.
Never ever get me wrong.
Randy said all he wanted to see was 5 guys working together, together he meant as a team, being humble towards each other.
Randy was never that confrontational.
Now i know why he was unhappy seeing their respective dominance that time.
But they did it still, leaving and having fame on their own.
The Eagles will always be a part of our lives.
I was just very happy during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when Tim really thanked Randy!✌❤
Love you all guys, incredibly genius musicians and performers🎉!
I'm with Don Felder. After he left couldn't care more for the eagles
"Couldn't care more" means you care more than humanly possible. Couldn't care less, something all together different.
@@franciscoherrera1219 He didn't capitalize Eagles, so he was talking about those flying birds when he said he couldn't care more.
You missed a lot of great songs.
Maybe Felder could have been a little more gracious, but on a rudeness scale what he said was pretty mild, and hardly warranted Frey's vicious (over)reaction.
That’s what you get from the leftist radicals when you piss them off…hatred.

If they both had arthiritus, hitting each other would have been the last thing they would have wanted! It hurts to much and yelling at first would be better and then making up later and writing a song about anger would have been better? I liked the Eagles a lot!
Had they actually engaged in fisticuffs, Don would have kicked Glenn's ass.
Except for Toby Keith "I Ain't As Good As I Once Was". That's funny.
@@michaeldroege1898 I'll knock your dentures out... if my carpal tunnels hold up.
Felder is a fantastic guitarist
Ever notice how Frey always tries to come across as the good guy in every confict and yet his own telling usually betrays the truth that he was just a petty jackass....IMO
Guys gone man. Let’s just hope he found salvation…
Yes, this was filmed at least 30 years afterwards and he still was irritated
True. And Henley was his weak sister.
They were in pretty rarified intense situations though. I’m sure he was a nice guy in his later life.
@@slashholt23 him being dead doesn't change who he was good or bad
'I guess' was totally appropriate considering he didn't know what he was being thanked for. Big fucking deal.
Gotta say props to Felder for not mixing politics with Rock.
Agreed on that, And I have a copy of his Book Heaven and Hell, my life in the Eagles 1974-2001, it’s really good to read!!!!
it’s crazy how Bill actually got audio of this argument, sad how much tension was increasing between Felder and Frey
I know Right!!!!!
Frey's incipient megalomania shining through in an early example.
Why would you be enraged with a band mate you've known for years over a politician?
Charles Mendias Chuck Only 1 person knows that answer and he ain't a sharing But he sure shared the credit from the actual author of Hotel California and that is Frey's terrible legacy which will hurt and haunt that group for many decades
Chuck to your perfect question, Let me take a wild guess ''Excessive Egotistical Alcoholic Intoxication'' lol
And a sorry politician at that

Liberalism is a religion, not a political point of view.
I'm team Felder all day man.
Yes indeed!!!!
Does your boyfriend know?
What they call "The Eagles" today, are no more than a cover band playing Eagle songs !
Vince Gill.....cringe.
Joe Walsh could have stood up for FELDER, but he did Nothing.
You’re right about that!!!!
It's Glen Frey's behavior that I stopped being an Eagles fan. Their music is great but their greatest album is because of Felder and he treated him like a hired hand.
I wanna hear Felder and Walsh together again!
Yes! So disappointing that this has never happened. If Walsh and Felder did a gig together tomorrow, no way they are kicking him out of the Eagles at this point. Do it Joe!
Not sure about that. Even though Joe probably has a healthy stash of cash at this point, he still answers to Adolf Henley in Eagles/music matters as long as he in still in his employ.
Sadly that seems unlikely as he isn't "allowed" to associate with Felder while he wants to remain an Eagle!
And Cranston was a proven crook…the irony.
And Henley is a miserly old man today.
Felder had the right to his opinion. I don't blame him at all.
Felder was from a conservative town . I'd expect him to say that and don't blame him
That great bands exist at all is a miracle. Being a top notch musician requires a near fatal dose of OCD - which also makes it extremely hard to get along with others.
good point, in videos where you see henley he is absolutely ocd about the music and arrangements, i guess that is one of the reasons why they are so good.
How is Felder the "ungrateful" one? He was doing Cranston a favor. Or more accurately, Felder was forced into doing Cranston a favor at Frey's and Henley's behest.
You’re right about that!!!
I guess.
Apparently he was supposed to be grateful to work for free for a cause about he didn't much care.
yeah, what's getting a chance to play in a multi million dollar rock group and making multi millions, anyway? why should he be grateful for that?
donate your brains to science and don't reproduce. please.
Glenn Frey couldn’t fight his way into a big schnoz contest. Lucky for him Felder chose to be the bigger man.
He would have kicked Felders skinny ass!! That's why the cowardly Felder ran out ahead
“When that kind of stuff is on stage and you’re in front of people, you’ve got problems”
No. When a guy with a serious alcohol addiction SAYS you’ve got problems…you have problems.
Felder and Meisner were always fated to be pushed out: they were partners in Eagles Inc.
In the Stones, Ron Wood was an employee, like Joe Walsh. Wood did not become a partner until Bill Wyman left the band.
Mick Taylor, before Wood, was on a contract also. You join a hugely successful band midstream...
@@peytonlucy5947 When you put it that way, offering them a contract makes sense.
If you listen to the early records you can tell that they were just a southern bluegrass band with a little rock and roll enter Felder who gave them their Edge to their sound then you add in the rock insanity of Joe and it's a perfect match for those two and because Don and Joe got along it was a threat to the jerks who couldn't have that. I seen the interview with Stern and Don and Don said they controlled Walsh and he wasn't even a partner in the eagles Don was but Joe never was that is just plain wrong.
Joe should have said no, unless I'm a full member, no. He could have had a voice then, a long with DF and RM. He had the talent that they needed to go along with DF. I think that they would have finally caved.
Glen Frey was so jealous of Felder..better guitarist, Glenn was a just a hack strummer..
biggest issue was the Felder wrote the seed of their biggest hit,,Hotel California..it ate away @ him til he died.
I believe you are correct.
kinda glad it did! if he was a more gracious human being it wouldn't have bothered him, he would have thanked his good fortune to be able to benefit from Don's talent. He suffered because he was petty!
Saw the Eagles live twice and loved them, although I don't know much about their history. Glen was my favorite, purely because of his vocals. I wasn't political in those days. Nobody was. The country has changed.
I love Don Felder. Don Henley can bite me.
amazes me how many comments bring Henley into this, but henley was not involved was he?
Don Henley sucks and is way overrated
I love the Eagles .. I saw them in 77 .
But I never liked their politics.
No band should do that to their fans.
Glenn and Don came off as a couple of arses with their bs political krap.
Go Don Felder..
Seems to be a little over the top to be that angry about saying "I guess". Had to be more to it.
True
Absolutely!!! There was clearly more to this that has not been talked about? To lose your shit over someone saying ‘I guess’ seems a little over the top and while you could say it’s a bit disrespectful, it’s hardly the worse thing that could of been said!!
This was just the final straw; resentments had been simmering
Imagine being a liberal and having to perform for Trump..
Or being a conservative and having to be nice to Hillary..
Henley put Felder in an uncomfortable situation and he reacted to it.
Felder took the band from " country rock " to Supergroup...and deserves to be recognized for it, but Henley could never share the spotlight.
Imagine thinking any of them are worth a shit.
Way to go Don Felder! GF should have run for election if he wanted to be a politician!
