Teslacam Stories is a series of Tesla owners' real experiences told by the Tesla Dashcam and Sentry Mode videos. All incidents are recorded from Tesla vehicles and submitted to this channel by other Tesla enthusiasts. I contact each person who sends me their videos to talk with them and learn more about their story and to follow up on what happened after what we see on their video. Voice-over and captions are added to describe what happened, and why. I believe that this additional information regarding the incident gives the videos a newsworthy value.
From the footage and additional information, a viewer can learn the consequences of bad driving and can educate his/her self with better driving safety. This process also gives the videos a great educational value. It is my desire to add my own unique and creative value in a transformative way to ensure you enjoy and learn from the videos being presented.

Uninsured driving should really be an arrestable offense.
Technically it is. Towable 100% and can't drive if you get caught.
It is in most countries
Driving without a license is, but people still do it, and some areas pretty much allow it.
Arrest is too nice, put them in force labor until they pay off the damages.
and they're usually for some strange reason Nissan Altima or Honda civic drivers with missing hubcaps and bumpers.
I'm so grateful I drive a 10-year-old plus Subaru. You can't have anything nice like a Tesla anymore. Somebody's always got to wreck it.
My heart goes out to everyone who had damage in this video.

@@bluecardholder I'm so sorry.. I have a dash cam just because of these kinds of idiot things. I hope you have one too. So many people think they can just hit and run these days.
Tesla owners are definitely targetted by vandals more often than non-owners, and is one of a long list of reasons that when I do finally get an EV, it'll be anything but a Tesla.
I drive a 23 year old truck. Though I wouldn't mind a tesla, I wouldn't want one cause nobody can drive these days
Facts. I have a 911 and I have to drive very aggressive to be far from people. Never used to really worry about others, and was always just the cruise type. I never really cared to drive too fast or be aggressive. But now you HAVE to. I can't even do car shows anymore unless they're more private. It sucks, I used to take people around in my cars, take them to shows so others could enjoy them and have the opportunity to sit in them and what not. Now i'm afraid to be at these shows because these poors with their stupid kids with their dodges they paid 10x the value for, or their clapped out shiz boxes come out trying to act all cool. We used to do some stupid crap, and take part in some tomfoolery but we were at least somewhat responsible and were careful not to hurt anyone or damage peoples vehicles/property. We need population control, plain and simple. WAY too many people in this world

That parking brake issue is a huge oversight...tire tread or no, in the video it very clearly looks like the brake just turns off and the wheels roll more than it sliding...
Almost every vehicle on the road only holds one or two wheels in park. The only "oversight" is likely the type or condition of Max's tires. At a glance they appear to be Michelin pilot sport a/s 3 tires which given the age (AS4s have been around for a couple years now) are probably worn enough that they shouldn't be used in winter anymore. Well maintained winter tires would have had a much better chance of gripping the snow and would have likely prevented that incident.
This is user fault. When you just tap on the end of the stalk to park. It is equivalent to putting an automatic car to P. To turn on the parking brake, you have to hold it for a few seconds. A red (((P))) will appear indicating the parking brake is engaged. You'll also hear it. You should do this anytime you'd turn on your parking brake in an automatic car.
not every single problem every tesla has had in the whole world is attributed to tires. idk why you and everyone on the planet blames EVERYTHING on tire tread. nah. its not.
@@GLIZZBIRD-dmz To be fair, driving with summer tyres on snow is a stupid idea. Where I live you are required by law to have winter tyres.
It is quite normal for parking brakes to hold only 2 of the 4 wheels, and at much less braking force than normal braking action.
I would say when you live in an area that is hilly and has frequent snow/ice, you should carry wheel chocks and place them whenever you park in such conditions.
I am always staggered by how little third party liability coverage some states of the USA allow. That figure in the first clip of $10,000 is ridiculous given the damage that can be caused. I sincerely hope that the limit is not applied to personal injury claims as, with medical costs and, perhaps long term care, bills can run into the millions. Here in the UK I think my third party liability coverage is for £20,000,000 third party property damage and unlimited personal injury claims. It also includes up to £100,000 of legal coverage for counter-claims (although up to the discretion of the insurer; also, unlike the USA, the winner is usually awarded their legal costs).
It's not even as if it's expensive. My cover cost £225.39 for the entire year. Admittedly, I've been accident and claim free for about 40 years, and it's only for social use but it's still a very small amount for the coverage.
California is a mess from top to bottom.
Whoa😮😮😮
I think the cover cost in the uk is how much your car is worth ÷ 10. When my dad got his new car for 47 grand the insurance for the year costed 4400 for the year.
@@CL4SSiCS It doesn't work like that at all. Even when I bought by car brand new it was a small fraction of the price. What is far more important is the risk factor. Crucially, your age, the type of car, your driving record, where you live and so on. Somebody who was 18 years old, living in London, with no time to build up a no claims discount would probably pay at least £2,000-£3,000 per year for fully comp insurance on a car like mine. It's not the value of my car (which is now fairly low), but the amount of third party damage you could do, including personal injuries.
You have a choice to be under insured. Generally middle class on up tend to get full coverage and it's also required if you are making payments on a new car. Getting hit by an underinsured driver doesn't mean oh well, thats all the blood you can get from the stone. It just means that's it for now. Your insurance company still sues the crap out of the underinsured motorist to garnish wages or take their crap.
#5 8:37 This is one of the reasons some states require a front license plate.
It always amazes me that in the US this is not required everywhere. Any other country I know requires plates both on the front and the back.
(and also larger and more readable than US plates...)
@@Rob2 Right, I'm a bit surprised the US hasn't adopted the EU/UK/RU style plates which are much larger, much more readable, and both on the front and rear.
I'm not sure how ANPR cameras read much at all in the US with their plates, they're so inconsistent!
@@VoxelLoop One big difference is that ANPR does not seem to be much of a thing there. And for traffic offenses (like speeding or running a red light) you have to be stopped by a policeman, instead of the more common traffic cameras used in Europe to apply fines to the license holder.

Most people do not realize that when they buy auto insurance, depending on what state, and how it is regulated, you give the insurance company the right to sue someone involved in an accident with you. So if their insurance company covers $10,000 worth of damage and your insurance company had to cover $60,000, they have the right to sue that individual under your name for the $60,000 plus. So basically people who may be under insured, but have substantial assets could look at losing some of those assets to make up the shortfall of their insurance.
But why would you automatically assume that "most people don't realize" that? _Did you take a poll?_ Did you really think that "most people" don't know that suing the at-fault driver and their insurance for unpaid insurance claims was a thing? _What are you, 10?_
@@mvpfocus just a wild guess maybe

@@TheOwlGuy777
This is what I said in the last sentence. “ so basically people who may be under insured, but have substantial assets could look at losing some of those assets to make up the shortfall of their insurance. There is no question that the overall reason people are under insured is because they can’t afford much more than they’re paying. And the insurance company is not going to go after a pauper but they are going to investigate when that kind of money is involved. There’s also a chance that the vehicle is in an adult name and that makes all the difference with respect to assets. Some people do very foolish things with respect to insurance, and sometimes they think they’re clever.
this is false.
Press and hold the park button for 3 seconds to engage the actual parking brake, this is the equivalent to pulling the hand brake. There’s a tone and a red park symbol displayed on the screen. You can also do it from the touchscreen
That won’t help. Putting the car in park already engages the electric pushing brake. Holding the button applies the same electric parking brakes: both only brakes the rear wheels. There is nothing to prevent the front wheels from rolling while parked.
@@pepstein According to the owners manual under “Driving”, “Breaking and Stopping” there is a section that specifically talks about the “Parking Break” and how it can be engaged by holding the park button as noted above or via the touch screen. It seems to be a second action rather then just pressing the park button. Is this not true? If so very misleading on Tesla’s part. It does say the parking break is only on the rear wheels which I believe may be the same on many cars. Toyotas for sure.
@@njgtguy yes, I have a Model 3 and I've read the manual thoroughly. It doesn't really explain what if anything is different about putting the car in Park vs holding the button to engage the parking brake. It makes the same sound. It's possible it engages the electronic parking brake more forcefully, but nobody I've talked to knows one way or the other. At least they're very clear that the parking brake only brakes the rear wheels.
@@pepstein correct. It applies the EPB calipers harder. The car estimates how hard it has to actuate the park brakes based on the angle the car is parked, but you can override it and apply max force by holding the button down

@6:03 you can hold the parking brake for 5 sek. it activates full hold on both pairs of wheels, even after leaving the vehicle. Determinable through another (P) Symbol on the screen
Excellent point -- but shouldn't the *release* be the option instead?
You SHOULD NOT have to do that though. I suspect that a government agency will eventually tell Tesla they have to fix it.
@@StackableGoldMC Parking brakes on most cars is only 2 wheels - not 4. So I think it is unlikely the government would intervene, as Tesla is following the same implementation as other cars.
You dont have to do this… when pressing or holding the park button the same EPB calipers activate either way. Image if Tesla dident put the parking brake on. that would be a massive lawsuit
@@NWquadriders The problem is that it first stops using the front brakes too, giving the impression that there is enough traction to hold the car in place. Then after you get out, it releases the front brakes and lets the car slide backwards. That is quite an oversight imo and I wouldn't be surprised to see a recall (read: software update) that releases the front brakes as soon as you put the car in park.

9:35 🎶you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel 🎶
5:33 This has nothing to do with the parking brakes, which operate just like every other car. The brake hold feature does mean the hydraulic front brakes might hold a bit longer than most other cars, but that doesn't make much difference either. Lots of commenters suggest pressing and holding the park button, but that doesn't make any difference either, since it uses the same rear wheel electronic parking brakes as putting the car in park. There are only two relevant factors here:
1) Tires: The red brake calipers indicate this is a Model 3 Performance, which usually comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires. These tires should never be driven in near- or below-freezing temperatures, let alone on snow or ice. These tires lose traction below 40°F and can be permanently damaged if used at temperatures below 20°F. So save these tires for warm summer weather and buy yourself another set of tires for cold and snow. Or sell these tires and switch to a good all weather tire. I can't tell what tires Max was driving on here.
2) Parking pawl: Model 3 Performance is an AWD vehicle, so you might think putting it in park would effectively prevent all 4 wheels from rolling. But that's not actually the case. The difference is parking pawls. Automatic transmissions in ICE cars always include a parking pawl to prevent the drivetrain from turning once you put the car in park. Some EVs have parking pawls too. For example, a Chevy Bolt EV has one, and that prevents the front wheels from turning. But Tesla doesn't have any parking pawls. To make matters worse, the front motors are induction machines, so they contain no magnets that would offer some resistance to turning. The result is the front wheels really are free to roll in all Teslas, whether RWD or AWD. This is unusual, but it's not totally unheard of. After all, it wasn't that long ago that most cars were RWD, and as such, putting them in park did nothing to prevent the front wheels from rolling. Today's RWD sports cars are just like this.
If you arrive and the driveway is covered in snow, I suggest parking on the street with the wheels turned so they roll into the curb if the car starts to slide. Wait until you've had a chance to shovel the driveway before parking on it. This is a good idea with any car, but especially Teslas and RWD cars.
Excellent point about the tires. The Pilot Sports are awfully dangerous in the Winter. Tesla could do a better job about educating buyers about this. I know in Montreal they were delivering M3Ps in the Winter at one point with Summer tires. Due to lack of manpower they wouldn't perform swaps to Winter tires before delivery even if you purchased a full Winter wheel and tire setup from Tesla.
@@Al-S-NH Based on what I've seen from Bjørn Nyland, Tesla Norway gets this right, often delivering cars with excellent Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires in the winter. Quebec now requires winter tires between specific dates, so I'm surprised Tesla Montreal is allowed to deliver cars in the winter with summer tires. I agree Tesla could do a better job educating buyers about summer performance tires. The car knows the temperature, so it could put up a warning message, with an option to specify the type of tire being used.
Take a look at the still at 6:21 - those are Pilot Sport AS 3 - all seasons. Not the summer tires.
@@Vantlor you’ve got a good eye for detail. Dedicated snow tires would be even better, but those all seasons are fine for occasional snow.

If you hold the parking button fully down for 5 seconds the full parking break comes on and locks all wheels. I wish Tesla made this more widely known.
Wrong.
AFAIK Parking brakes typically only installed on Rear wheels only.
it locks the parking brakes on the rear wheels with full force, rather than letting thr car calculate sufficient parking brake force itself. it will engage this after a while when parked, but it's still a very good habit. I didn'1t know about this feature until after I'd passed 100.000km with my car, so keep spreading the word!
@@Frygisk Its not needed. And the car does not ""engage this after a while" You're only putting more wear on your park brake assembly.
Like you said, you dident know about it for 100k, and I bet you managed just fine without it for those kilometers dident you? so why start doing this?
@@Pus1 looking further into it the car will clamp the brakes enough to homd the car steady when set to P, but if you hold it for a few secs it will try to clamp down harder and act more like a regular E-brake.

I never get uninsured or underinsured coverage because they only cover medical expenses for me & my passengers. Which seems unnecessary if I, and all my friends that might ride with me, have health insurance.
Correct me if I'm wrong -- I live in Arizona, USA.
There are two types of coverage: Uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage (UMBI)
Uninsured/underinsured motorist property damage coverage (UMPD).
These only cover your family members IIRC. Check to see if you have either one or both. I don't think UMPD covers hit and runs if you can't identify the guilty party. I'd talk to your insurance agency. 🙂
This is a very bad suggestion for texas. You should always get uninsured/underinsured coverage in texas.
@@lanaj1107 Thanks.
I was told by Allstate and other insurance agents that my liability coverage -- or was it comprehensive and collision coverage? -- would pay for UMPD.

Whoever it was that feels not having the front brakes locked up with the parking brake is an oversight is the person with the oversight. Most any car only locks the back brakes as parking brakes. You should have educated yourself and also have taken better precaution parking on a hill covered in snow. That's your oversight, not Tesla's.
To be fair, other AWD vehicles have parking pawls or manual transmissions that can help prevent the front wheels from rolling. AWD Teslas don’t have parking pawls, so front wheels are free to roll. Of course the front wheels are free to roll in every RWD car, so this isn’t some horrible omission.
@@pepstein that would be some rare outlier. The vast vast majority only lock rear wheels. Even tractor trailers and box trucks only lock the rear wheels in a parking situation. Parking brakes are not designed to prevent rolling in extremely steep or slippery conditions. That is not their purpose
@@redbeard7376 I don't think you got my point at all. The vast majority of US cars and light trucks have automatic transmissions with parking pawls connected to the front wheels or all 4 wheels (FWD or AWD), so putting these cars in park does prevent the front wheels from rolling. Admittedly, they almost always have open diffs, so one side can roll if the other is slipping. But that's still some help in preventing the car from rolling. Teslas are distinctive in the fact that they lack parking pawls altogether. That's not important for the rear drivetrain, since the parking brakes already prevent the rear wheels from rolling. But it matters for the front drivetrain found in AWD Teslas. I suspect many Tesla owners assume their AWD Tesla is no more likely to roll away than their prior AWD ICE vehicle, and that is not actually the case.
@@pepstein Interestingly enough, however your defense of the individual that was complaining about the front wheels was not doing so with any sense of understanding and was not making any comparison to include your point. The video portrays that because the front wheels were not part of the parking system that Tesla had an oversight. I believe this person doesn't understand how vehicles work and was not expecting anything from some 10mm bolt holding a car ion park or some loose 1st gear of a front wheel drive.
@@redbeard7376 I don't understand what you're getting at. It's understandable that some people expect the front axle to lock when they put their car in park, and this is not the case with Tesla. I'm not saying Tesla is doing anything wrong. Reading other comments on this video shows many Tesla owners think they can solve this problem by holding the park button. This shows many people are misinformed. This is far from the only video of a Tesla sliding down a driveway. Happens all the time.

Tell the submitter that sent you the video from Germany with the Y that got its tire slashed that it wasn’t a chance encounter. There’s an activist group in Europe that is going around slashing tires of SUV’s as a protest against big gas cars. They have been doing this to Tesla’s because they don’t realize it is an EV.
Ok he will
An EV SUV still has many problems, such as wearing out the road and tires faster (polluting the air with tire particles), causing more serious injury if it collides with a cyclist or pedestrian, using more electricity (a lot of electricity still comes from burning gas or coal) and using more raw materials to build it.
Anybody claiming they need a SUV could travel just as well in a crossover or hatchback. It's pure luxury, just like private jets.
@@noseboop4354 I’ve had mine for 2 years and haven’t needed to replace my tires yet. Any heavy vehicle with low quality cheap tires will have to replace them more frequently. Any vehicle striking a pedestrian isn’t good for the pedestrian. That is simple physics. More and more green energy is being built each year as we slowly phase out coal and gas power plants. A person with battery storage and solar can charge their EV fully off the sun energy and never need the grid. 97% of the raw materials in an EV battery pack are fully recyclable and can be reused to make new batteries… indefinitely. Some people do need SUV’s. It’s always the same case with people like you. You hear some BS from some for profit gas company backed “research” and you believe it instead of doing proper research from real scientific non-profit sources. 6:21 you can clearly see he has summer tyres so thats kind of karma, sorry but driving with summer tyres in freezing snow is dangerous for you and others, unresponsible.
2:14 thats a escalade not a suburban
I noticed because of the tail lights.
1:21 kid also left his dabs 😅😂
I’m going to be that guy…
13 - Holloman Air Force Base is in New Mexico, the video clip shows California in the banner.
10 - Maybe it’s just the dozen or so cars/trucks I’ve owned but NONE of them engage the front wheels when setting the emergency brakes. Seems to me Tesla is just following standard operating procedures. But, with the increased weight of these vehicles, applying the emer breaks to all wheels should be something that is the norm from now on. IMHO
Omg this clip is in my home town and I’m so glad I’m seeing one of my dream cars becoming more popular can’t believe this happened at Galaxy roller rink lol 😂 1:29
6:15 - press and hold park. That’s how you engage the hood brake while parked. The symbol will show on screen.
Perfect example of what happens when you spends $60k and can’t be bothered to read the manual. Ffs smh.
Very Nice Bro! Get Good People!
4:56 That would be perfect if it was a Volkswagen logo, so you can go
_"Volkswagen, Das Auto"_
2:22 i live right near where this happened and i never heard about it, crazy
2:20 Cadillac Escalade
I Saw The First Clip On The Dashcam Nation Channel
No one:
Teslas at any minor inconvenience: I guess I'm totalled
2:09 that’s a Cadillac Escalade!
6:35 did you press and hold the park button to engage the parking brake?
Doesn’t matter because that uses the same electric parking brake as putting the car in park. Both features only brake the rear wheels.
What was that music for number 19????😂
If someone else crashes into my car, and neither of us have insurance, then I have to pay for it?
