I have loved the sound of Osibisa since the early 70's and always will. Greetings from St.John's Newfoundland. My step brother Ray Roman turned me on to this joyous sound and vibe many many years ago when we were the young dudes and I will never forget him for opening my mind to this wonderful sound.☮🌴✝♾
Hi. Had the great pleasure if working with these great people just wonderful men. It was just before they went off to Japan 71 72 I am guessing I didn't go !! Brighton Dome was a highlight I remember well. Good memories
Now watching the 1971 video in 2024, it comes to my mind that how young and full of happiness and energy all of them were. Now from some recent photos and videos, Teddy Osei and Dell Richardson look quite senior. May God bless them with long life and good health. Sad to note that some of the group musicians especially Sol Amarfio has already left the world.
Since the halcyon days of the seventies, Osibisa’s rhythms have been the soundtrack to our lives. Huddled in a friend’s living room, we were entranced by the pioneering beats of ‘Osibisa’ and ‘Woyaya’ -albums that became our anthems. Fast forward to today, and their live performance still pulsates with that same vibrant energy. However, it’s a bittersweet note to find that the visual storytelling fell short. This was more than a concert; it was a legacy in the making. Yet, the lens through which we’ll remember this moment didn’t capture the grandeur it deserved -a poignant reminder of the power of preserving art for posterity.
Oslo 15 November 1971. I was happy - I had bought a ticket to the concert with Osibisa in Njårdhallen and took the subway to Makrellbekken. Today I discovered the NRK recording on You Tube - Thank you! Great band Great music!
Trumpet and saxophones make such a contribution on top of brilliant percussion and memorable melody. Such musicality. So happy to have seen them four times. May Osibisa sail on forever
Great. Great. Grrrreat!!! Best early footage I've seen, along with superb sound! THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this wonderful performance. God Bless Teddy Osei and all the bandmates who have mostly left us...but not without a priceless legacy of music, love, happiness and joy!
@@TheNanaedusei Yes...and Osibisa has a NEW album with Robert Bailey and other longtime members[First time female band members too!] coming out called New Dawn(I think) in 2021!
fantastic saw them live twice in the 70's this is them at their best have all their albums brilliant band it's why I became a percussionist and drummer xx
It's 50 years ago when I played this album on cassette and kept playing it even in reverse as encore and my recently departed Mom used to say it will snap sooner because of overplay. 😅😅😅😅❤❤🎉🎉 From South Africa
The greatest ever! I believe they are as follows: 0:03, 06:23: Teddy Osei (Ghana) (Band leader) (Saxophone) 01:14, 10:47: Sol "Rhythm Man" Armafio (Ghana) (Drummer) 02:54, 21:34: Spartacus R (Grenada) (Bass) 03:47, 10:53: Loughty Lasisi Amao (RIP) (Ghana) (Percussion, Sax) 10:22, 27:23: Robert Bailey (Trinidad) (Keyboard) 12:11, 30:00: Mac Tontoh (RIP) (Ghana, Teddy's brother) (Trumpet) 12:29, 22:46: Wendel Richardson (Antigua) (Lead Guitar) Please correct if I have got any wrong. Also, on percussion at 20:14, I cannot figure out who that is.
@@johnrobertson586 Thanks for the suggestion but that is however clearly not Loughty who, at this stage of the performance, is on sax and unlike the person we are wondering about, is bearded, dressed differently including a Safari-style (not Fez-style) hat and laying down a very high-energy tempo, unlike our friend who is more studied. I am thinking that is Daku "Potato" Adams who joined the original line-up as a percussionist. All the best.
@@wotizit2937 I think you have solved the "mystery", thanks man👍👌!!. I have googled him and was delighted to see that he is alive and still doing his thing. All the best!
Have been hearing about their legacy from past 35 years, personally I had had their audio, but 1st time veiwing them in personal, bro, can I share this on my wall... ofcourse only for entertainment, nothing commercial, all my Indian friends will also be energized with this great music..
I wouldn't go as far as to say that, even though I went as far as to say Alvin Lee blew Carlos away, until Hendrix blew him away! That didn't make any sense! (get the drift?) But you are right Sir, this band blew away a lot of bands in creativity and longevity. I had "Happy Children" in 1974.
omg, we in Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, England and some parts of Europe grew up loving Loving OSIBISA back in the early 70's and always will. 👍
