    Aaaah yes, the 50cc moped days. I bought a brand new yamaha tzr50 back in 2009, liquid cooled 6 speed, basicly a 125cc with less engine. Thing didnt ran that fast, although still twice as what was allowed haha. The amount of people who thought it was a motorcycle was quite a lot haha.

    You could've specified what the bike is in the title and in your narration/discussion...I guess you just assumed you had already pointed out it's the 50cc...
    It was confusing as I forgot they even made those 50cc versions, and you only mentioned it two minutes into the video very quickly and I missed that mention. I was wondering what "30 mph" you were talking about?! Only later on I finally understood you're looking at a 50cc.
    This bike is the Aprilia AF1 50, not just Aprilia Af1!

    • @raceandretro
      @raceandretro  11 месяцев назад +1

      Fair comment although at 16 only the 50 was legal. We will take the feedback though and aim to be clearer going forward. Thanks for the watch though and taking time to comment 👍

    • @pistonburner6448
      @pistonburner6448 11 месяцев назад

      @@raceandretro I realise it's one of those things...you went into it only thinking about AF1 50s, and I had forgotten they even exist and simply assumed I was watching a video about AF1 125s! 😅
      Really nice video though!
      In many European countries, at least the country I lived in at the time and the neighbouring countries allowed unrestricted 125cc for 16 year olds. We were allowed 50cc (and max speed 40 km/h) at 15 years old. I had a Suzuki PV50 which I tuned first with the stock 50cc to go over 55 km/h (mainly just using a file on the ports, and I changed the needle on the carburettor), then I swapped to an 80cc cylinder and it went at least 80km/h with a passenger, I was gear limited despite changing both sprockets. The speedo didn't show any more than 70 km/h (IIRC), so it was just an estimate I got with the help of a 16-year-old friend on an Aprilia AF1 125.
      When I turned 16 I went for a an enduro bike for my 125cc, a Yamaha DT 125R (unrestricted 23hp).
      (And yes, I like to comment on videos I appreciate because it helps your video regarding the algorithms...This was the first video of yours I've seen but will be watching many more to come.)

    • @raceandretro
      @raceandretro  11 месяцев назад +1

      @pistonburner6448 that’s very good of you say. We have edited the title to add some clarity. Maybe we should also buy the 125 to add to collection!! 👍
      Tuning two strokes when we were younger in search of speed was a fantastic pastime! Often for us it ended in seizure but those gains when you got it right we’re very satisfying! I remember a Suzuki RG125 FUN that required a snip to a wire in the ecu to produce full power. With that and the gearing change you could search for the elusive 100 MPH! Great times.
      Thanks again buddy and we hope you enjoy the videos. Great to have you along 🙏

    Yes the engine could be an RV3/4 or even an RV6 which was exclusively for foreign markets, and as you stated in comments down below it was restricted at 3 or 4 gears in italy. Yes, in 1992 there was this brand new law that restricted geared mopeds to only 3 gears to limit the speed. Couple years later, I believe 1994, it was dropped because even with 3 gears only it was possible for 50cc to get about 90kmh with not much trouble.
    I would love to get my hands on that swingarm and those wheels.
