Frank Gorshin does impressions of Hollywood acting legends, Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas, in an excerpt from Gorshin's HBO concert On Location in San Francisco, 1977.
Frank John Gorshin Jr. (1933 - 2005) was an American character actor, impressionist, and comedian. He made many guest appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and Tonight Starring Steve Allen. Gorshin was a popular act at nightclubs, notably those of Las Vegas, where he was the first impressionist to headline the main showrooms. He was also the first impressionist headliner at the Empire Room of New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. Among his most popular impressions were of Burt Lancaster (exaggerating Lancaster's hand gestures) and Kirk Douglas (exaggerating Douglas' gritted teeth), as well as Marlon Brando (spoofing his squint). He was also popular for simulating bodily and facial resemblances, and pitch-perfect imitations of voice, accent, and vocal inflections and mannerisms. Gorshin's slender athletic build, wide mouth, and pale eyes under strong brows were ideal characteristics for screen henchmen.

Burt Lancaster (1913 - 1994)was an American actor and producer. Initially known for playing tough guys with a tender heart, he went on to achieve success with more complex and challenging roles over a 45-year career in film and, later, television. He was a four-time nominee for the Academy Award for Best Actor (winning once), and he also won two BAFTA Awards and one Golden Globe Award for Best Lead Actor. The American Film Institute ranks Lancaster as #19 of the greatest male stars of classic Hollywood cinema.
Kirk Douglas (1916 - 2020) was an American actor and filmmaker. After an impoverished childhood, he made his film debut in The Strange Love of Martha Ivers(1946) with Barbara Stanwyck. Douglas soon developed into a leading box-office star throughout the 1950s, known for serious dramas, including westerns and war films. During his career, he appeared in more than 90 films and was known for his explosive acting style. He was named by the American Film Institute the 17th-greatest male star of Classic Hollywood cinema and was the highest-ranked living person on the list.

I used to cook at a Howard Johnson's in Fairfield, CT. Onenight I looked over to see Frank sitting in abooth alone eating. The staff was mostly young and didn't recognize him. i shyly asked for an autograph and told him what an honor it was to cook for him. He smiled and said, "kid, you've been making my Sunday dinner for years!". What a great guy, entertainer in all of his many talents, and for me, the ONLY Riddler.

Absolutely the only Riddler! His sinister staccato speeches of doom and revenge just before his maniacal falsetto laugh is classic!!! No other actor assuming that role came close to being as joyfully menacing!

At his impression of Burt and Kirk,I thought he looked more like Kirk than Burt. But him doing both Kirk and Burt and Brando and Rod steiger, was the ultimate. He was the best of all time. Also he was in a movie called "Warlock" with Richard Widmark and Henry Fonda, he played Richard Widmark's brother in the movie. They really looked like they could be brothers. LOL.

I'm 42 years old and people think I'm 25 years old....and looking at Frank here in his 40's...looking like he is in his 60's...is crazy....the 40 something year olds back then looked much older then there age, then the 40 years olds today...which look much younger.
Frank Gorshin is a national Treasure to me...he is a icon and legend...he was a jack of all trade, he was multi Talented...he can act, sing, dance, and impersonate...he was an extraordinary man with extraordinary talent....he was also an outlived comedian, and a stand-up comedian...he can do comedy as well as the rest of his talents.
One of a kind and a once in a life time talent.
RIP to a true Star and legendary Iconic Goat ❤🐏🕊🕊🕊🕊🙏🙏🌟🌟🌟🌟 🎙📺🎬🎬🎬🎥(1933-2005]

What you are referring to is an interesting phenomenon that many of us observe but few realize why we all see it like you do. It has very little to do with the way their skin looks (which still does play a small part), but is mostly due to the style of clothes and hair.
Frank looks like a 60 year old because his clothes and hair make him look old.

The Best of all those nutty criminals that Batman and Robin, Boy Wonder, tried hopelessly to turn away from crime. The Criminal Mind at it's Wackiest: The Riddler. I also enjoyed Batman's confrontation with Frontier Fanny, and his devastating rebuke to that cussing', baccy spittin' virago: "I've never met a woman I thought was beyond redemption; but in your case, Frontier Fanny, I have to make an exception"! Great days, great entertainment. People had a sense of humour, and didn't argue politics 27 hours a day. (Hope I have the quote right from memory).

Gorshins Riddler was off the Hook! He had that manic laughter that made you realize he was crazy and dangerous! Only Jim Carey could come along later and outdo him by going over the top which is what he’s known for! But Gorshin was the original Psycho Riddler who laughed like the Joker!

I think this was before many People were even born. Again, I remember Frank Gorshin from his brillliant Job playing the Riddler on the Batman TV Series of the 1960''s. He also did a greatJob playing a Humanoid Alien in a Star TREk episode of the original Series.

As goofy as the Batman TV show was, Frank Gorshin as The Riddler was the only *truly* scary villain. Even us little kids knew there was something different about him; the intensity of his performance always brought a sense of real danger when he was on screen.
Rest in peace, Mr. Gorshin. No other Riddler can hold a candle to you, sir.

Not only were the impressions fantastic, but he had a bizarre sense of humor---a good thing--to go with his talent of impersonations.Comparing Gorshin to Rich Little and you see what I mean.Little is excellent, but his jokes are more mainstream. Now with Gorshin, you're traveling with an almost disturbed mind--which heightens the impressions even more.

He turned "The Riddler" into a totally different character. So much so, Marvel Comics, started copying he persona he made the Riddler into.
Jim Carrey when he played the Riddler took a lot from him.

All Frank DID was Kirk and Burt.
AKA Birt and Kurt. More variety (besides The Riddler) would have been nice.
(I mean of course he could do no wrong by being The Riddler - nobody else to compete with.)
