Frank Gorshin loved movies. He was a theatre usher as a young man, and spent time learning the mannerisms of his film idols. And he was so damn great at it.
Frank was just amazing.... to me he was one of the best & sure there are plenty of impressionists out there Rich Little is considered one of the greatest but I always liked Frank Gorshin he was always one of my favorites...
If I could see any performer of all time live it would be Frank. Used to watch him on Sullivan. I was amazed that he could just slip into someone else's voice and face like he did. Inspired me to do the same. People tell me "oh you're so good, how do you do that"? But I know that there will only be one Frank Gorshin. Long live the king.
frank gorshin was the greatest impressionist of all time he WAS who he portrayed, more please, and donn,t forget the Riddler in the original t v batman,as well as many other parts. What an absolute STAR.
Frank was the only Emmy nomination for the entire Batman series for his character of the Riddler. He was a brilliant impressionist and tremendous character actor. His character Cheronian Commissioner Bele for the Star Trek episode “Let This Be Your Last Battlefield” is one of the most memorable aliens from the original series.
i remember his burt lancaster from when i was a kid , i am 63 now and this guy is still pure class , not like the shite that passes for entertainment today
Jerry Lewis cast Frank Gorshin for an interesting, but uncredited, role in Jerry's first movie since the Martin & Lewis breakup, in the 1957 film "The Delicate Delinquent." Frank had a comedic role. This meant that Jerry thought highly of Frank's comedic talents even back then.
I'd forgotten he did Quinn. It was impressive. I don't think that his Brando was up to his usual high standards though. But, man, his Lancaster was perfect. I still get a kick out of Gorshin. Very talented fellow. His Lee J. Cobb, is freaking amazing, too.
To me this is where Jim Carrey must get it from. He's the first person i think of when i think of carrey. Had a massive crush on gorshin as the riddler.
The best impression of Kirk Douglas ever. His Cagney is on point too. Frank Gorshin was a master impressionist and great character actor. His Riddler was nominated for an Emmy, the only Emmy nomination for the Batman series period. His character Cheronian Commissioner Bele for the Star Trek episode “Let This Be Your Last Battlefield” is also one of the most memorable Star Trek aliens from the original series. RIP Frank.
If you're a big fan of Mr. Gorshin, look for his performance on The Ed Sullivan Show the same night The Beatles made their American TV debut. God did that man kill! Hard thing to do considering the attention that the mop topped Liverpoolians received. His Anthony Quinn impression always gets me. Brando and Lancaster were great bits as well! 🇵🇷🇺🇸🤣
I'm a Beatles fan for around 50 years I'll back that statement up 100%. I've seen that Ed Sullivan performance of his at least half a dozen times. His impersonations were flawless.
Was he singing as Richard Burton when he went to his knee? I adore his Lancaster and Burton impressions, I wish there were more videos of his Burton impression though, the only one I've been able to find is when he did Burton at Sammy Davis Jr's. roast on the Dean Martin show
Impressionists have the toughest job in comedy, because their performance represses their individuality and in its place offers imitations of others. So their glory when successful is always vulnerable to the criticism it is second-hand. Completely unfair of course because the impressionists must labor long and hard to deliver the essence of a famous personality, and in the process reduce the essence of their victim to a few seconds that, to the audience, says it all about that person. When it's done by the very best, as we see here, the applause is not in response to humor in the conventional sense, but rather is a tribute to the impressionist's insight, with the inevitable result that they penetrate the mystique of some big star. That star's ability to captivate the public will from that moment forward be compromised.
Both eccentric and mischievous kind of comedians. Too bad he got typecast. In the final appearance of the live riddler, was Jim Carrey, who had those similar traits.
WOW off the chart talent
He's very good at his impressions love his kirk douglas❤
His Burt Lancaster is amazing and deep. He was a great entertainer and one of the best impressionists.
I was just a kid, but was so drawn to his riddler character. He was something special.

Hell yeah he was!
Awesome talent. This guy could do everything well - sing, dance, act and of course, an amazing impressionist.
I always saw him as the riddler and I am so glad I stumbled on this.
When I babysit my 2 year old granddaughter, I'll do the "Riddler laugh" and she just loves it.
Just brilliant, as I remember from my childhood. And, to do Anthony Quinn...just great.

The guy did Douglas better than Kirk could do himself. I'd bet Kirk watches old Gorshin shows to this day. 102 now.

To be frank, Mr. Gorshin could be Frank.
Frank Gorshin restled with substance abuse, but yes he was talented. Robert at 67.
Oh,God the pills were good back then!!
"Riddle me this Batman" Three men in a boat with a pack of cigarettes and no matches ,what do they do ?
Answer : They open up the pack of cigarettes, throw one overboard , and make the boat a cigarette lighter !
@@jcam783 I love your little joke very much.
@@jamesharrington4752 Hey James ! It was an actual riddle from one of the old episodes on Batman .
There are no impressionists anymore!! Celebrities today are so narcissistic they’d probably sue anybody who impersonated them.
Funny
The Riddler!
Better than Rich Little any time of the day or night...
Amazing great He is Burt Lancaster
Just before Burt Lancaster died he said "I just wish I could've done myself as good as Gorshin."
Hi do you have the episode with Buddy Greco on it thanks
Unfortunately I don't have the episodes of this show only this clip. 🙁
he did jolson

Lynn Turman He was just that damn good
are you retarded? it's because he's an impressionist.
He should of worked with Jerry Lewis himself.
He was in Deliquet Delinquent
Both eccentric and mischievous kind of comedians. Too bad he got typecast.

He was the Goat Riddler! John Austin was not a good villain.
He was undeniably great at several impressions of stars, but I kinda feel he was a bit of a ham about it all.
Literally terrible🤣🤣
Great forever!
