Top class interview! Love it when the interviewer isn't an egocentric a hole and feels the need to but in with their every thought. A really natural flowing superb conversation. You've earnt my subscription!
Great interview, really looking forward to this. I'm from Wolverhampton and I think I went to a Nightingales gig back in the dark ages (80's). I love Stewart Lee and have seen him live many times. I have to say the unusual colouring of his beard makes him look a little like that infamous German guy from yonks ago (30's - 40's). I forget his name.
Great interview. I put a Nightingales gig on in Falmouth a few years ago and Robert certainly mis-judged his 'intake of rocket fuel' that night. Ted was supporting and was matching Rob all the way.
I saw both the Nightingales and the Fall in the early 80s and had the Ted Chipington live cassette in 1985. I feel blessed that I shared some of his passions, even though I never became a celebrated stand-up comedian.
Used to drink in The Great Western, in Wolverhampton, regularly in the 90s - terrific pub. Many a quick lunchtime drink ended up becoming a long afternoon session.
The place in Wolves with a list of bands and a 'scan and listen-to' is Lichfield st. ( first set of automated traffic lights BTW' and the awning around the (soon to be proppa-gain) Civic Hall has many a memorable band image, so NICE-ONE Stewart Lee ! X
Wow. Where else do you get such a good 👍vs👎 ratio? I expect most of the people who find this video are probably lovely people with a good sense of humour and a good attitude toward life in general. Bless ya. And if you don't want to be blessed, make this sign 🙅♀️ while going up the aisle
I was hoping Stewart Lee would mention the rappers...You know, the rappers...you’ve seen them...the rappers, you’ve seen them on the Top Of The Pops...the rappers...you’ve seen them...
Yeah, the rap singers, the rappers...you’ve seen them, on the Top Of The Tops...the rap singers, the rappers, you’ve seen them, in the adverts and on the Top Of The Pops, and in the shopping centre...down by the Corn Exchange...you’ve seen them, the rappers, the rap singers...
Stew was right about Birmingham it's a big city but you never hear anything about it i always hear about music scenes in Liverpool and Leeds cos they are very good at promoting themselves
Whenever I think of Wolverhampton, I think 'Goth'...or punks but that was due to walking around the town wih my mum in the 80s and being scared seeing them covered in zips and peircings etc.
It's such a shame that no matter what the video, and what philosophical insights Stewart has on them, there will only ever be comments about how he's let himself go... He has though hasn't he.
I tried to post a comment about the Morecambe and Wise statue that is mentioned briefly in the interview but it has been censored (perhaps because I included a hyperlink to the morecambeandwise (dot) com website that discusses two guys trying to track it down in Hungerford back in 2007).
@crabhat1 Unfortunately, Stew's clearly and passionately stated he would lose credibility in its broad sense and not be able to deny a charge of hypocrisy (see his bit on the Content Provider tour) if he worked with Sky. Your 'simple practicality' - if it's how he's thinking of it - would be the end of his unique place in popular culture. People in glass houses and all that.
@crabhat1 If that's what you choose to think then good for you and your take on moral relativism. I expect both Stewart Lees just wanted to earn enough dough to put an Amdega on that house they're always telling us they've got a mortgage for. I expect pretend Stewart Lee signed the Sky contract when real Stewart Lee was busy looking at the catalogue. Not that it's any of my business.
@@sphinxtheeminx You seem to have failed to realise that Sky is no longer owned by Murdoch so Lee's comments about 'Murdoch's Sky' are no longer relevant.....
This was a good interview, Mark. You let him go with it, only prompting when it was appropriate. That's nice to see, mate.

That King Kong statue was like an urban myth by the eighties. Don't think I'ver even seen a picture of it until now. How funny.
