Duane thought nothing of rehearsing 10 hours at a time. As a result Dicky became an awesome player although there weren't/aren't too many in Duane's league. IMO.
Most guitarists (to this day) have never plugged straight in a cranked up amp (any amp) to realize what you can do with skin covered fingers. Its true.....try it.
Greg was like 19 when he sang this on the first Allman Bros. album in like '69/'70..A young white long haired hippie guy singing like a 50 yr. old black blues singer? WTF..Never happen again in history...And this performance of the song...KICKASS!
@Jay Baker I saw him when he first came to fame...and, I was completely impressed. I already had been an ABBs fan for years, and I heard the similarities...but, he was of his own kind and mind. I saw him a couple of times later...and, he didn't lose anything...he wasn't hungry anymore...I guess...if you know what I mean. The ABBs and Gregg, no matter what happened and how famous they were, always acted on stage like there was no place they would rather be...I don't see that consistently from many bands....not even the Stones.

You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. How could you not have tears in your eyes after that. You can’t write like Greg Allman, you can’t sing like Greg Allman, unless you lived Greg Allman‘s life. This music finds a place in me, and all of us that I don’t think any other music can access. this music was touched by the hand of God.

I think he stood up because, they took a break...see how the house lights go off...not just down...that may have been the encore. I was on the other side of the continent.
Yeah, he was living his despair then...and, it went on for decades...I mean, he KNOWS he is gonna die soon, and, his brother has gone, both Toler brothers die of natural causes, Berry, of course, who Jaimoe (who is still with us, along with Betts) reports that Berry died when Duane died....he walked around for a year...but, he was empty. THEN, Trucks goes and shoots his brains out! I have never seen any band so cursed...yet, Gregg lived on and was strong...cleaned up his act, and left us at 68. Really are some sad, bad misfortunes. His bones are resting, I believe he is still jamming up there in the really big house....I like to believe that....
Is that just an unlucky place to stand...notice how Betts never stands where Duane stood...what a shame. He died of natural causes at a young age...there is a video on here when he was really sick, and he is sitting down while he plays like an angel...AND, his drummer brother dies too! Tragic....Was this band cursed? But nothing could stop them?
Passaic New Jersey hell yea.. Monroe St. That's the partying little theater for regular people, 20 minutes out of NYC, lots of sleepy folks over there.
I saw this version of the band four times. 1979 at the LA forum I was way back couldn't see much but they were great! 1980 two shows at the Greek Theater with good seats I could hear the amplifiers in my face great except... for the jerk (who was one of their producers) who played keyboards and ughh keytar :( Jaimoe was still playing drums. First night was really great second night Belushi made an appearance with his buffoonery Dickey cut his solo in Whipping Post more than likely to allow Belushi his time. Third time in 1981 in Long Beach they had background singers it was really sad the end of that was written. Never saw them with warren haynes in the 1990s
I saw Gregg and Dickey with each of their solo-career bands at the Capitol Theater, sometime between '83 & '86. They also played a few songs together. The closing act was, The Band. Now that's a night out! I miss the Capitol Theater, it's long gone now. I could always get great seats there because the locals were generally not into that type of music. And also, it was not perceived to be the best of neighborhoods, although it was actually quite safe.
Is it just me or does this sound very similar to Sandy's blues by canned heat from their living the blues album released in '68 before this was released in '69?

Seriously....Dickey's playing obviously mesmerized Gregg during this number. And shit, how could it not. This is fucking incredible shit.
Right On 👍 Raw and incredibly tight 😎✌
The Allman Brother's Band knew how to do everything brilliantly, and I mean brilliantly, but how to end a song.

Dicky Betts is the standout in this. Everyone else is spectacular, but Dicky is sublime.
Dickey Betts hand is broken!!! True Badass!
Gregg was such a badass with his heartfelt, bluesy vocals. He and dickie were on fire here.
