Probably need to mention, their willingness to aggresively using offisde trap That Messi pass into offside goal was really brave, its look simple from outside, but it is difficult to judge when playing... It was brave from the defender to stop his feet, until Messi passed which lead to offside Had the defender still run backward trying to cut the pass, and had he failed We probably get 2-2

Well, Saudi Arabia players 🇸🇦 give the Argentineans players a lesson, on what a word cup means 🏆 , it’s all about mentality and play with your heart ❤️ for your country Forza Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 ❤
I believe Saudi Arabia pressured a lot in a defensive 4-1-2-3 and one of the 3 up in the field, either from left or right, used to move to the midfield for a 4-4-2 or a 4-1-3-2. They played on both a positional high defense, and also a man-to-man pressure in the middle, specially to the pivots.
This is the greatest upset in WC history. Forget 7-1, this was an Argentina that we can all argue didn't look weak. This was a tactical masterclass. I'm pretty sure the only people who truly understand how Saudi Arabia played so well are Africans who remember who the Saudi coach is
@vladorac6 Bro, Brazil played AWFULLY IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY that game. This Argentina team is literally even more impressive than the team that were the Finalists back in 2014. This win was well deserved
One of the most improtant factors for the success of this suicide plan was the fact that 8 players from the squad were from the same club meaning better chemistry. Which translated to proper exucution of the high defensive line.

The high defence lines are done plenty of times by weak teams at tournaments but usually they don't work because they get scored on by alot .this time it worked
because there was no VAR offside Technology....now the Coach of Saudi Abused the VAR technology and the Offside Trap... Argentina got frustrated and mentally destroyed because of many failed attempts...

Argentina created enough chances conceded very little, 2.3 vs 0.1, to win the match. It's Argentina's wastefulness at the front, the Saudi goalie's exceptional performance and their exceptional and lucky finishing upfront that made this result possible. Just like Germany vs Japan. Belief proved more important for both games.

Argentina should have had a better match than this. They can't fully control the game, thus getting countered in the process. And whose idea is that to put two 30-year-or-older wingers in 1v1 duels???
@@lexkanyima2195 I don't care about Argentina's dressing room. Today they control the game like Man United do every week, and that's the issue. Scaloni should have some ways to fix this.
@Football Made Simple A fantastic video but I have a request/suggestion. Can you please do a video or just add a small section at the end of your videos on how to break defensive lines and tactics like this?
It has two answers: first, some wingers like Mbappe or Dembele who are really fast to pass the right back or left back. Second is having a tall center forward like Giroud to let your team use areal advance.
KSA played great in this game and they deserved the win. But as the match against Poland showed, what happened in the first game was in itself a rarity, because Saudi Arabia went on to loose without being able to score a goal out of 13 attempts. Let's see how they fare in the 3rd match against Mexico, who will have to forget about defending and will expose themselves in the back; I think if KSA play well they will come up on top. I really hope KSA will qualify for play offs (along with us, of course). They showed good technique and pride.
No easly i can give him 10 due to the risk of the high line and smashing the last pass of messi multiple time believe me this man is crazy this plan work only once high risk high reward
Argentina in possession looked to set up in a two - three - five with fullbacks sitting on the touchline instead of playing inverted. You'd see at times both opposition strikers sit on the single pivot in midfield which would allow the cbs to push up into the midfield and look to play balls in behind, or when they pushed up and drived with the ball, at times they would drag out the opposition fullback allowing a free ball down the flank for the winger to run on to. Saudi in possession sat in a four - four - two mid block where they looked to apply constant pressure and keep the defence compact not allowing the opposition to get shots inside the the box in dangerous areas and forcing fhem to take chances like outside the box or on set peices where it makes it a little more difficult for them to score, with the plan to counter and create as many chances as they possibly could knowing they have to take every single one.
I also think Argentina got it wrong tactically for the first 60 minutes of the game, it wasn't until the 3 subs that things got a bit better, but even that was prompted by Saudis finally abandoning their high line as their main defensive form and playing with a mid-low block. The problem was they relied too much on the long balls, of course the Saudi tactical plan force them to this, but there were 2 main ways outside of individual brilliance and set pieces that they could have adjusted 1) One was to get one of the full backs main Tagliafico to play high up as they normally do with the unbalanced shape and leave Papu Gomez to play a bit deeper in order to make late runs that can beat the offside line 2) Was to abandon playing on the shoulder of the defense and have Messi drop to the midfield position with Paredes and Depaul and try to outnumber the midfielders or force one of the center backs to follow Messi in. Messi no longer has the legs to play on the shoulder, the only ability he currently has that is still Messi class is his playmaking, his dribbling is only at world class level now because his physicality is much lower, he no longer has the acceleration he use of have, and only uses it in short bursts. So having Messi orchestrate from deeper would have been a much better play, and this needed to happen while they were leading and Saudi would be more willing to come onto them. But in the end Argentina weren't bad, they were quite decent but the Saudi team just put in the performance of a life time, they were on point, tactically, physically with that aggressiveness and mentally to hold their composure. It's one of the few times I lament Messi being older, a younger Messi would have been capable of using his dribbling to bypass 2+ players putting their organization in chaos
@@nikounourbakhsh8433 Messi has declined a lot technically and physically ! Back in 2015 used to say that once messi lose his stamina , acceleration and sprint speed his dribbling will decline by a huge margin . He's no longer a press resistant player he was in 2015 !! We all age at some point in life!!
@@Ben256MB He actually hasn't declined technically, he's only done that physically. His still very capable of dribbling, he has one of the highest dribbling numbers in Europe this season, the problem is he can only dribble a player but cant really get past them, they can recover and catch up, so his dribbles this season are usually get past one, maybe 2 players if they are close enough to each other and quickly release the ball. If he had De Paul, Paredes, and Gomez or one of the full backs tuck in with him in the midfield making it 4 on 3 or 4 on 4, he would have been able to dictate the play. This argentina team is great in possession, in making quick short passes around the midfield, having De Paul, Gomez, Di Maria and Martinez playing on the shoulder as the video showed meant that the time Messi dropped deep to playmake, he and Paredes were out numbered so he could find space, and could not use quick passes to create them. Messi is the best in the world at using the overlapping run of the full back, and it would have been devastating against that early Saudi high line, but as the video showed Tagliafico and Molina played quite withdrawn, Acuna was better at that, but when he came on it was already too late, Saudi were 2 - 1 up and had abandoned the high line
Good to see a Zambian lead the Saudi's to their historic victory over Messi & Co. Zambia needs this citizen back to help the national team qualify to at least the next AFCON.....
I did notice that argentina had no one in the midfield. It was either defense of attackers. Zero mid. I also noticed it with germany. The team with the best managed midfield is def gonna win the WC. Examples:spain 7-0, England 6-2, france 4-1. I think brazil did the the same thing. They had so many striker they put neymar in the midfield and did nothing because he doesnt know what to do in the middle
My observations: 1. This game should be a model example for importance of tactics in games, especially when your team is weaker. 2. When you have the right tactic, all you need is discipline and determination to make it work. This is exactly what Saudi Arabian players did to deserve the victory. 3. Argentina lost the game due to the midfield battle. De Paul and Paredes are not upto the mark required for Lautaro to click, along with Papu and Di Maria. 4. Romero isn't a ball playing CB, Lisandro is. He should've started. 5. Thanks to FMS. I couldn't notice the FB positioning as a tactical flaw.
I think they just made Argentina better I bet they will get both solid wins next games regardless of how the opponents play while controlling the game and dominating possession.
The saudis were running them down. Getting to every loose ball and tipped pass 🤷🏽♂️amo argentina but they really screwed up with all the offsides as well. Woke up at 4 am just to see this 😐
Argentina Is a haunted team. Maybe you need to experience the internal goings on of the entire country to begin to grasp how and to what extent this team can fluctuate between dazzling and disconcerting. Yes, Saudi Arabia had a plan (a very good one incidentally) and executed it to near perfection. The worst thing you can do to Argentina in a football match is to frustrate them. As a team they are very fragile mentally. If things go right for them in the first 25/30 minutes then their opponents are in for a schooling unless they manage to do their absolute best (and their absolute best is good enough). But when for example, you have 3 goals disallowed for offsides narrow enough to require new(ish) technology that is first being implemented in a World Cup and it all happens inside 30 minutes, well, that can do a number on any team, but Messi's Argentina Is historically especially vulnerable to this sort of frustration turning a match on its head. You go to half time 1-0 on a half that would have finished at least 2 or 3-0 with any previous World Cup ruleset/refereeing, and the ghosts start to appear. Argentina is a haunted team. I was not at all surprised that they jumped onto the pitch for the second half with a semblance of apathy, the same happened with the fans at the stadium (awful, totally disconnected, not only with the players but with every Argentinian at home). Inside the first minutes that lack of concentration and belief cost them a goal. With the match tied all hell broke loose, Saudi Arabia smelled blood and delivered a fatal wound. After that, although your analysis is really helpful and we'll thought out, I personally feel there is little point in trying to decipher what was going on in Scaloni's head as he tried to salvage the match, the damage was already done. A great majority of people (both laymen and authorized voices, both Argies and non Argies) was convinced Argentina would win easily and it was just a question of by how much and how that would affect their chances of getting first place if they ended up drawing against Poland and/or Mexico. It was a given that Argentina would get to the third group match unbeaten and thus breaking Italy's record run. It all came crashing down bad when Saudi Arabia exposed Argentina's soft underbelly for the world to see. Argentina will probably go on to the next phase, Mexico showed good energy and positivity, they will most probably try to take the ball away from Arg and get up the pitch. They'll leave spaces and take risks, and they'll probably end up thrashed for it. Julian Álvarez should start, as should Guido Rodríguez, maybe it's a match for the faster right back, Montiel. Less solid than Molina all round but maybe a bit better offensively. Romero's fitness will play an important part, Licha is raring to have a go too.
"Argentina will probably go on to the next phase, Mexico showed good energy and positivity, they will most probably try to take the ball away from Arg and get up the pitch. They'll leave spaces and take risks, and they'll probably end up thrashed for it." You are a brave man. After this game, you're still making predictions.
Argentina should some familiarity against Mexico in tactics since Tata Martinez had a stint with Argentina. The question is how players like Lionel Messi and Emi Martinez respond.
I feel you are stuck in the 2016-2018 lineup and haven’t watched Argentina lately. It’s hardly “Messi’s Argentina” anymore. It’s Lo Celso’s Argentina. He’s the magician shadowing the more experienced Messi. Pure magic. L-man injured, Scaloni did not have an adequate replacement in Paredes (out of form) . De Paul seemed erratic and disoriented without Lo Celso. Papu Gomez? really. Saudi Arabia forced Argentina to smarter associations they weren’t prepared to handle with the physical form of some players like Paredes in that starting lineup aggravated by the absence of Lo Celso. I think it’s a a 50-50 whether Argentina can come back. This loss was no fluke
I think Argentina should have utilized 3rd man runs more frequently the balls from deep into the strikers just hanging off the CB’s shoulders was a bit too direct and allowed to the Saudis offside trap to work. Playing into a front man who then plays it off to someone playing under him that initiates a 3rd man run from deeper from one of the midfielders or a tucked in winger might have given them some joy in beating the offside trap or having the high line drop off to pick up the runners freeing up some space in the pockets to in and around the 18 to play
Argentina just got tired and lazy after all those offside calls they didn’t care about winning with 1-0 and just keeping the ball but instead lost 2-1 I believe they’ll still go through
Also, what most pundits were saying at half time about Saudi Arabia playing a "brazen offside trap" and that conceding 3 offside goals was risky and that Argentina would get one soon that wasn't offside Bit ignorant. Obviously it was risky, but Renard has figured it out, VAR will catch all the marginal offsides and abused the mechanic to play the way he wants and also kill Argentina confidence and grind them down in spirits and frustrate
i hated how sloppy AR was in the first half, 3 disallowed goals sucks and not starting lisandro paid dividends for Saudi, still a long way to go but def a huge shocker and wake up call
Si la FIFA tendría intención de añadir Argentina no te habrían pitado un penalti dudoso cuando el partido estaba 0-0. Yo confío más en la tecnología que en las líneas tiradas por el culo de una app. Ganar a México y punto
That's true, If you compare Uruguay population with Saudi Arabia, Morocco THEN you'll SEE that Lately These Countries DIDN'T Care TOO Much for FOOTBALL, Now THEY'RE investing Time and money To recruit More players eh? NOBODY is BETTER Than The Other, We're ALL equal.
There is no need to defend Messi on everything. Pressing works because you do it almost always. Messi even in his younger days had never been good at it or anything defensive, that is not what makes him amazing(his talents lie elsewhere)
@@sqq3985 Guido Rodríguez, he plays for Betis, had a dominant stint in the Mexican League and is probably the only player on Arg's WC squad that is naturally suited for the pivot role. Excellent defensive timing, very good spatial awareness and, perhaps most important for this team, very strong mentally. Hardly ever loses concentration, he is not easily riled up and generally copes with adversity and frustration much, MUCH better than the likes of De Paul, Paredes and some others
@@MarianoPingitore paredes was crucial with his first time passing and through balls in that Copa America run. It seems like he has lost his step a bit and isn't as influencial on the field as he used to be, shame really as he was one of the best passers in Europe couple years ago
If that 1st Half they timely run the result would've been different. Especially Martinez who can't even time his run despite knowing the through ball will come.
@@moonhope5602 Messi can't do it all. Per his analysis, if the centre back could drive the ball forward and drag players out of position, it'd have been easier for them. Kudos to Saudi Arabia tho
I might be wrong but I feel like the high defense only worked because Argentina are lacking pace wise. If saudi continues to play like this Mexico can give them alot of trouble because they're very pacey.
I actually think that only having 3 matches in the group stages is quite risky, and could end up with better teams being eliminated. 6 games (like in the CL) would be better. 9 out of 10 times Argentina probably beat Saudi Arabia. Especially after learning Saudi Arabias gimmicky tactics

Watch the defence line of Saudi Arabia almost playing at Half field and moving inside with the Argentinian attack wave! It was really impressive tactic of the coach
Congratulations to Saudi Arabia from China. They deserve the victory so well.

After this game, I felt that I overrated argentina squard. Objectively, their strength is not as strong as expected.
Me too, and I am a huge Argentina fan. Its just sad at this point.
Great analysis. Cleary you took the time to watch and analyze. Thanks
That is the tactics that to be played by small team , no need to scare all big stars who earned so much money and end up by loosing ..
I think Argentina must review the judge offside decision especially on Lautaro goal that not met fifa offside rules.
First. Congratulations to Saudi Arabia
The Saudi Goalkeeper also made a good job in holding fort, it seemed that it gave confidence for the defense to put more pressure.

Looking forward for Morocco vs Croatia analysis
Key was Saudis keep space between players constant. Other teams would give too much open space when defending
just getting into the tactics of soccer, this video is so interesting
Congrats to Saudi Arabia, they are the ultimate underdog. Also, someone needs to teach Argentina about the offside.
True words, as a Saudi i just want ppl to be fair about this one. Specially that you ppl have higher ranks teams so you should understand what’s football. What we did was pure soccer with high stamina. We gave them the ball and gave them fouls and corners! Also a penalty! So they get enough chances to make sure that they are satisfyingly convinced that they cant break our defensive lines!
Argentina underrated them too much and you could see how they were even playing
Argentina should have had a better match than this. They can't fully control the game, thus getting countered in the process. And whose idea is that to put two 30-year-or-older wingers in 1v1 duels???
Something happen in the dressing room what La Scaloneta was defeated.
@@lexkanyima2195 I don't care about Argentina's dressing room. Today they control the game like Man United do every week, and that's the issue. Scaloni should have some ways to fix this.

A fantastic video but I have a request/suggestion.
It's a holiday today in Saudi Arabia because of this win ..
Yah lm happy 🎉😅
KSA played great in this game and they deserved the win. But as the match against Poland showed, what happened in the first game was in itself a rarity, because Saudi Arabia went on to loose without being able to score a goal out of 13 attempts. Let's see how they fare in the 3rd match against Mexico, who will have to forget about defending and will expose themselves in the back; I think if KSA play well they will come up on top.
I really hope KSA will qualify for play offs (along with us, of course). They showed good technique and pride.
The offside trap by KSA was crazy!
And I don't want to think the Renard rating should be a 10 though. Good game, but maybe a 6 or 7
No easly i can give him 10 due to the risk of the high line and smashing the last pass of messi multiple time believe me this man is crazy this plan work only once high risk high reward
Who do you think is gonna win this Saturday? Mexico vs Argentina ?
Saudi 2nd goal still the best goal at world cup so far.
The problem was they relied too much on the long balls, of course the Saudi tactical plan force them to this, but there were 2 main ways outside of individual brilliance and set pieces that they could have adjusted
1) One was to get one of the full backs main Tagliafico to play high up as they normally do with the unbalanced shape and leave Papu Gomez to play a bit deeper in order to make late runs that can beat the offside line
2) Was to abandon playing on the shoulder of the defense and have Messi drop to the midfield position with Paredes and Depaul and try to outnumber the midfielders or force one of the center backs to follow Messi in.
They were also pressuring Messi in particular very heavily so he could not dribble
Exactly coach is killing him on the shoulder when he can play him engine!
Keep messi excuses flowing

Good to see a Zambian lead the Saudi's to their historic victory over Messi & Co.

Why not: “ what went right?” ? !!
Should have played with Lisandro instead. His passing range could have penetrated the lines for Argentina
Beautiful analysis... Loved it
I did notice that argentina had no one in the midfield.
Exactly. Argentina's midfield has been middling-to-poor in both of their games so far. They definitely miss Lo Celso.
Saudis coach is a genius. He will do well in European clubs
Make the analysis of France - Australia pls
It's just finished a few minutes ago. Let the man breathe 🤣🤣 my gee
Nah I think Denmark and Tunisia will be more interesting.
My observations:
I think they just made Argentina better I bet they will get both solid wins next games regardless of how the opponents play while controlling the game and dominating possession.
interesting channel, cheers from Saudi Arabia

Can you break down the US vs Wales game as well please?
Amazing analysis
I think Argentina should have utilized 3rd man runs more frequently the balls from deep into the strikers just hanging off the CB’s shoulders was a bit too direct and allowed to the Saudis offside trap to work.
Playing into a front man who then plays it off to someone playing under him that initiates a 3rd man run from deeper from one of the midfielders or a tucked in winger might have given them some joy in beating the offside trap or having the high line drop off to pick up the runners freeing up some space in the pockets to in and around the 18 to play
Argentina just got tired and lazy after all those offside calls they didn’t care about winning with 1-0 and just keeping the ball but instead lost 2-1 I believe they’ll still go through
Argentina will make a comeback. Always believe Argentina😁😁
Also, what most pundits were saying at half time about Saudi Arabia playing a "brazen offside trap" and that conceding 3 offside goals was risky and that Argentina would get one soon that wasn't offside
Bit ignorant. Obviously it was risky, but Renard has figured it out, VAR will catch all the marginal offsides and abused the mechanic to play the way he wants and also kill Argentina confidence and grind them down in spirits and frustrate
Herve Renard best coach of the tornament regardless...the game against poland showed how great this guy is despite loosing
i hated how sloppy AR was in the first half, 3 disallowed goals sucks and not starting lisandro paid dividends for Saudi, still a long way to go but def a huge shocker and wake up call
Si la FIFA tendría intención de añadir Argentina no te habrían pitado un penalti dudoso cuando el partido estaba 0-0. Yo confío más en la tecnología que en las líneas tiradas por el culo de una app. Ganar a México y punto
You failed to mention the fact that offside traps were a part of the tactic. It was a high risk but it worked.
I’ll sum it up for everyone, VAR

Simple: they were overconfident. Don’t get messy with strategy. This was a movie moment. Saudis made them “remember the night they played against…”
8:23 Messi know when how to press on the right moment.

Hardly ever loses concentration, he is not easily riled up and generally copes with adversity and frustration much, MUCH better than the likes of De Paul, Paredes and some others

If that 1st Half they timely run the result would've been different.
Especially Martinez who can't even time his run despite knowing the through ball will come.
In my opinion, the only reason Argentina lost is because Lisandro didn't play.

why the coach didnt change tactics during half time is beyond me. It was clear through out the 1st half that the formation wasnt working.
My teacher at school always told me to play smart not to play hard
i remember what saudi arabia did in 2007 vs iraq, they used penalty stuff everytime
I might be wrong but I feel like the high defense only worked because Argentina are lacking pace wise. If saudi continues to play like this Mexico can give them alot of trouble because they're very pacey.
Ball possession is nothing if you're not gonna convert them into goals.
Argentina should employ 0-0-10 strategy to win from now onward !
