Nice video and it's nice to see some love for the FK2 🙂 I'm an owner, it's worth mentioning that the FK2 had the lowest production number of all Civic Type R's (as well as lower than Integra Type R's). About 7500 produced. It's also quite different than the FK8 (stiffer suspension, more nervous at the rear, no comfort mode, magic seats), overall it's more "raw", which I prefer (but I know people who changed to a Ford Focus RS because the Civic as "too stiff"). Both are really nice and fun on the track (as well as quick) - I have some POV videos from track days and time attacks on my channel, if anyone's interested 🙂 BTW the GT version simply had some extra things like parking sensors, a bit better audio, satnav etc (as well as the red strip on the splitter part of the front bumper). In the UK you could buy the basic and GT versions (here in Poland only the GT one was sold). BTW2 the handbrake leaver is placed closer to the passenger side in both LHD and RHD cars 🙂
This Type R was the first Type R I actually fell in love with. I like the look of the front and the continuous curve from the front bumper to the roof. It's sad that It didn't make it over to the NA market
@@droptopp3479 Never said I didn't. I simply discovered the FK2 before the FD2. Also, I like the front of FD2 a lot but the rear end especially with the tail lights just look off to me. I prefer the tail lights of the FA1's
Do you know the history of where you started from at 0:14 ? That was the entry to one of Sydney's lost racing circuits! (Amaroo Park) You would have only been a toddler when it closed lol. I have seen this car at Benzin so awesome to see you review it. Your videos are getting better every post. It was great to meet you at Cars and Coffee last weekend, my daughter was so happy to sit in your car but now she's bugging me to get a set of Recaros :(

Thank you so much for the kind words! 😊 I make these videos as a diary of my life and hobbies, so if i can brighten people's day even just the slightest; that makes the happiest person
This is famous for the first turbo Type-R and the first non-Japan oriented Type-R. Honda stopped to mention about Tsukuba, Suzuka and Motegi. Nürburgring only.
My dad was the sales manager at Honda in the 80s/90s so I was lucky enough to be there when they introduced the 4WS Prelude, CRX, Accord, Civic and Legend from that era. I even got to sit in an F1 car. Still prefer my FD though over the H. That's cool he owns the first registered FX2. I own the last registered FD RX-7 sold in Australia 🌏🐨
Just imagine this thing with EK9 suspension design + FK8 front knuckle & diff, as well as aluminium roof + doors + fenders + bonnet. 🤤 Dreams are free lol
This was really good, thank you! As a European it's strange for me, from 2006 to 2016 a Civic meant a hatchback here. (Although there was a sedan version too from 2004(?) to 2009 but only with a 1.3 or 1.4 hybrid petrol engine. But it was quite rare.)
I have an EP3 and Id like to upgrade to the FK2, but I read everywhere that the suspension is so hard and not regulable that is unbearable for a daily drive. :(
Regarding the handbrake positioning being closer to the passenger, it's actually nothing to do with it favouring LHD vehicles at all. The Mazda 3 MPS has exactly the same awkwardly placed handbrake, I was under the same assumption regarding it being made for LHD models, however the LHD models actually still have it on the passenger side for some bizarre reason. Same was the for S2K, Lexus IS200/Altezza, Nissan Quashqai etc. Plenty of mixed reasons, nothing concrete that I found when wondering why lol. Regardless, I love the FK2R, great vid. 😀
@@MiddleTwixAU Basically haha. One of my friends has an FD RX-7 and a bunch of other cars, the first time he got in my MPS, he actually lowered the handbrake as I was about to drive off. Guess he doesn't like his leg being touched. 😂
I only see these type Rs by picture but dont really know about them and not a lot of people i follow has this content! Love the video and gave me knowledge with these Type Rs! Keep up the great work! 🙌
Great job on this! Fascinating to learn more about the model that preceded my FK8. Wish Honda had kept an actual hand brake instead of the e-brake button I have in thexFK8. Although it does make a cool sound when you use it, sort of like landing gear being deployed. Clearly the turning circle was a lot better too.
Well technically it IS the father of the FK8, as it is the same engine and I remember the promotion for it in Norway and Europe in general was actually pretty serious. I have driven it plenty of times and it is an amazing engine and machine to drive
sucks so much that Australia missed out on so many civic Type R varients ! Id buy one today if we had more stock available. The 2 door Type Rs are my fav
interesting how different this type r is compared to the base model of that generation. Usually its been based on the regular civic but this is so different.
Though not a bad car, it's definitely not an entirely good CTR either. Was based on the 9th-Gen Civic and came way too late. You got the feel being in an early 2010/2011 car despite buying one brand new back in 2015. It had the shortest production lifespan in history of any CTR before it was quickly replaced by the more refined FK8, which was also marketed internationally. This led to very limited R&D and off-the-shelve aftermarket parts being produced for the FK2...the aftermarket support for this specific generation of the CTR is practically non-existent. It lacked an independent rear suspension design which was a repeat in history from the FN2 Type R, another CTR that especially outside of Europe, was greatly overshadowed by the FD2 Type R, which had implemented an independent rear suspension design, which the later FK8 also would. If Honda had managed to push this car into production and debut it much earlier in 2012/2013, it might've created a bigger and longer-lasting positive impact. Unfortunately, the sad truth is...this car came out only when they were also planning to kill off the 9th-Gen Civic's production lifespan.
They never came to Australia because it was a bit late in the model cycle. I dont think Honda Australia could justify the compliance costs for a low volume car for a 1-2yr period.
This is so amazing and so awesome. I really enjoy every single video you make. Middle Twix do you have a instagram? Also I love the video quality of you're videos.
Thanks for such a great vid @middletwix.

Nice content . I’m a owner CTR FK2 from Malaysia 🇲🇾
I was so jealous of the FK2 when they came out but being from the US it made me sad we never got it, such a beautiful car

A Blue FK2 R here in the UK.

FK2 Type R is still pretty popular in Sweden 😊 I however saved about 60% buying my FN2 Type R that has that awesome growling Type R soundtrack 😍
Props to Lee for being a family man with this car. I have an FG4 and it can be a lil hard with a kid but it’s so worth it!
Had a crystal black pearl FK2, then FK8, now waiting for the FL5. Loved the FK2, really nice homage 👍
Respect to Lee from another member of team dad. I'm not saying it can't work, but he'll need his chiro/masseuse on speed dial.
I'll forward the number of my massage lady to him... Dad's are heroes!
the best edit about the legendary Type R FK2 Civic! the girl is amazing! love you guys ;:) you both made a excellent film. please make more

Fun fact - The LHD eudm version has the handbrake on the opposite side from the cupholders as well. Not sure why they did that XD

My favourite Type R. Save the £30k on an FL5 and pump it into the engine as the styling is spot on.
2:19 First turbocharged Honda engine dates back to Honda City Turbo in the early 80's.
There's two of these in my town, it's absolutely disgusting when you see it next to earlier and later civic Type-R models
Damn I didnt know the rest of the world never got this Honda. We were lucky here in South Africa to recieve these Type R's.
The production and audio quality is something off the TV show.
Dream car which I hopefully will own in the future !!!
Where did you get mugen power merch?
The first turbocharged Honda car engine is actually in the 1985 Honda city turbo.

The weirdest part of the handbrake is that in EU market it's still on the far side :D
