Cool to see, in powerlifting we prefer the first grip because of the tendency of the bar to roll with maximal loads

As a climber, seeing people recommending this grip makes me nervous, reason being, in climbing, when grabbing a small hold which can only be grabbed with the finger tips called a crimp, a lot of people use this grip to gain better purchase but it can lead to higher risk to finger injuries if you're just not strong enough yet.

I couldn’t say about climbing, but the hook is the strongest grip in weightlifting. Every world record in the snatch/c&j has been done with a hook grip.

    Is this useful for pullups?

When doing pull ups just try to work on improving your grip. The hook grip is not ideal.

I think so but I think it's way more awkward and definetely not needed unless your pull up bar is made of ice

If you're worried about calluses tearing don't deadlift to begin with all grips can tear your calluses
