This news came as quite a shock to me. I think this is a great move on Gibson's part as Mark has quite the following on Social Media as well as experience with the brands history, but will this be the beginning of the end for Norm's Guitar of the Day series? Who would you like to see as the new host?
The Trogly's Guitar Show Joe Bonamassa, because he really knows alot about vintage guitars, but he’s probably too busy. Seems like things are happening under new leadership. my first Gibson had the bridge tone knob put on crooked and finish cracking around the neck joint. you would expect an old mayor company like Gibson to know how to put a guitar together. Maybe things will improve now.
@@riheg finish cracks are completely normal for nitro finishes. That's not a QC issue, it's just what nitro does. Didn't you do any research before you bought you guitar? And how would a knob be "put on crooked"? What does that mean?
Regardless of its outcome, things are really starting to change and move in the right direction for Gibson and players so it's all good. Mark should be a great addition to the family.

My first gibson was a 2008 Les Paul traditional (which i bought in 2008 and still own) when the Traditional first came out. My second gibson was a 2007 custom shop 1960 les paul reissue G0 (the guitar center R0) which i purchased yesterday. My experience with the reissue is that there is a significant difference in playability and sound. The guitar just feels more solid and everywhere my hand is placed on the instrument feels right. I will never purchase a USA model ever again. I cannot go back to standard production line model when i know what is possible if i save a little more cash. So to me any change that Gibson makes to bring their USA brand closer to the reissue series the better. Everyone should be able to experience the workmanship of the custom shop. I will admit that my traditional has a chunkier 50s rounded neck, 57 classic pickups so this could have something to do with the sound difference. My reissue has burstbuckers and a slim taper 60s neck so this could definetly have some effect on why the reissue feels more clear and bright. Ive heard burstbuckers are brighter generall and if thats true ima swap out for burstbuckers on my traditional LP and my SG for that matter. The reissue feels like i own a "true" Gibson.
It should certainly make Norm realize what he had in Agnesi. I would also suspect that there will be no shortage of people applying from all over North America and that, hopefully, Norm will pay good money for what, clearly, is a valuable commodity. (My guess is that money was a major reason for Mark ultimately deciding to leave.)
Imagine the commission you could make at Norm's. Mark must have been raking it in if the selling rate from the GOTD videos were anything to go by. I'd imagine the chance of a director's role at Gibson would be very difficult to turn down
I think it's great news for Gibson to get Mark onboard , he's so smart in a lot of ways and has a great personality. It's a win for both Gibson and Mark, I'm excited to see what happens with Gibson.
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Mark A, and a great promotional guy for Gibson -- win-win; only Norm loses but he'll attract somebody good - and life goes on
at least he can't scratch the sh*t out of those sweet vintage guitars with the sharp zippers on his "cool" leather jacket or smack them with his rings anymore
I think Norm knows enough people that replacing Mark will be an easy task. And not saying that so as not to hurt his feelings. As far as my interests in the series, the most important part the host has is playing the guitar very well. After all the show is about the guitar. There is nothing like hearing a beautiful vintage collectable in the hands of a great guitarist through a great amp. We can never get the full experience over the tube through phone or even studio speakers as hearing it live, so the recording needs to be done as top notch as possible also. Knowing the History of all those old classic collectables and being able to briefly bring those that don't more current is also a must. Having one person that can do it all is cool, yet if there is a writer, a narrator and a player, that would be fine with me. Like one store I watch, they frequently have one guy talk then turn it over to a selected player. But it's mostly about the equipment for me and seeing and hearing it in HD played by a top notch player.
I was shocked too as I enjoyed Mark's vids especially STRATURDAY! However, Michael Lemmo is more than capable. He plays different and is perhaps better versed in some styles than Mark was. Norm"s channel will not go the way Fretted Americana did.
Because he worked at norms he knows a good Gibson from a bad Gibson he's very familiar with the vintage ones ones that play bad ones that play well he knows what the experience of a good Gibson should be and it seems that Gibson is out of touch with that very thing my assumption is that's why they hired him
The replacement of Mark is much better. He is a far better player and is more personable. Gibson creating a position called “director of brand experience“ was ridiculous as was the choice to hire Mark to fill that position. The icons of Fender and Gibson, Leo Fender and Ted McCarty, couldn’t play the guitar at all.
Honestly i think it was incredibly smart of gibson to bring him on. His experience with buying and selling vintage gear puts him in a league that not many have experience in. If you want a business to be successful, surround yourself with successful people. That is what gibson is trying to do, and the future results look promising.
I don't know that I would compare your show with his; yours is great. Well done; full of great info; I look forward to it; best name... and I wouldn't give too much credit to that guy as a host... in my mind: he was given an amazing guitar everyday to check-out and he did it laboriously /parody... I was always put-off by that; I watched it literally without the sound until he opened up the case, and its not like he didn't have great info; how could he not. but that oh boy not another one shtick was off-putting for me... I'm really looking forward to someone else hosting it; i gotta be honest. To get to go back in Norm's guitar stash and pick one out, clean and specimen heavy as they are, everyday, I mean wow! that show should be the number one out there and now it has a chance, imo... I really like Norm's other shows on youtube. the trade shows, the guests, the auctions... he's a class act but when his staff get involved... not so much. Norm is amazing but I guess he can't do it all. Thanks for the update. Love your show. They keep getting better!!
I would wan't to see: Jonathan Ke Quan/Ke Huy Quan Brian Bloom Josh Dun Thomas Doherty Peyton Clark Nick Hargrove And just to name a few... These are the people I would be fond to see take Mark's place. Like if you wan't see them take Mark's place too.
Maybe Gibson should also give you a job, Trogly, as a subordinate of Mark's. You know so much about Gibson and Gibson has always been your top priority.
I 100% support Mark's decision to jump on board with the new Gibson team. Gibson will benefit from Mark with his knowledge and passion he has for guitars. I love Norm's show on youtube. I'll continue to watch, non judgemental, as i watch the torche get passed on. Change is good!
Mark’s customer service experience coupled with vintage & modern guitar model knowledge appears to make him a perfect fit for the Gibson position. On the flip side, it makes him nearly irreplaceable at Norm’s.
I was not happy with the news Tuesday night but when the gig was revealed the next night, I couldn't have been happier for Mark. GOTD, i still hope it carries on. I've watched it for over a year.
From a purely hosting aspect, Andy from Reverb.com would be perfect. No idea if being a store manager is his jam though. John Bollinger from Premier Guitar would be a good choice as well. Congratulations to Mark on his new gig, it seems like JC is continuing to make the right moves for Gibson. Maybe Gibson will start a "Gibson of the Day" RUclips channel? You may need to start featuring more semi-hollow guitars on your channel, Trog. 😉 I chuckled at seeing all the beginning shots of Mark holding Fenders, subtle unintended trolling there. 😁 Lastly, you need one of your regular commenters to start typing in ALL CAPS LIKE CARLOS GUITARLOS! 🤘😎🎸 Keep on rockin' Austin.
I've learned a lot over the years from Mark. I've seen every GOTD episode. He's going be great for Gibson - if they let him play a creative role in the company that has a direct effect on non pro customers. If it's just catering to and providing instruments for the pros, then nobody's gonna care.
Lemmo is killing it, but I can't see him managing the shop. That young man is going to be on the road showing off his guitar skills! He is truly an excellent guitarist!
Good Questions. Not sure how I feel about Mark moving to Gibson. He was certainly a Gibson fan over other brands. That came through in his show. He's obviously a good employee, team player and responsible enough for the position. In my opinion working Retail is 10 times harder than working wholesale and 100 times harder than working manufacturing. I'm sure he's be able to provide what ever it is they are looking for. Wish him all the best. As for his replacement at NORMs that will be a little bit harder. He filled a very important spot. It won't be easy to replace him. I'll certainly continue watching.
Besides you Austin, I've been watching Mark and Jen with Guitar of the day since its inception. Also it's the ONLY OTHER Guitar Channel ( yours included ), that I Subscribe to. I don't know how many songs you know that chime in the year make and model of the particular guitar, your song selections would have to be VERY EXTENSIVE! I feel that you could DEFINITELY handle the Business Part of the Job. It would bring my two Guitar channels into One Very Interesting Show. I am Sad Mark Is leaving, a lot of PEOPLE feel the same way, but kind of excited to see Who's Next! Thank GOD Jen will still be Shooting the show, I Just LOVE JEN, and She is an Intrical Part of That Show! As Always Austin, I'm still Glad we've Got You................................🎸💚
I can think of three or four people that could do this, but as you indicated, most of them are operating a variety of vintage guitar enterprises. The thought that someone from Reverb/Chicago Music Exchange might be a good fit is an idea that I had as well and seems to make sense on a few different levels.
Trogly, I also think you should do it. You are business savvy, you buy and sell guitars yourself, and you are good at it. You have charisma, and that can't be taught or bought. You have a wonderful soft voice, just like Mark does. Don't sell yourself short and don't be scared of people hating you if you replaced Mark, people would understand. Just be you. But whatever happens, I am sure you and Norm will manage fine, you're both too big of a name to not be.
First of all thank you very much for clearing up what happened to him because he sure isn’t telling us 😩 Second I hope Norm picks somebody off the street who really needs the job, third super glad to hear Mark is going to Gibson and yes they are making awesome decisions these days let’s hope they keep up the good work
Great news! Mark will do great. This shows James "gets it" as new CEO. Although now poor Gibson has have two guys in leather jackets for people to freak out over.. "The zipper is gonna scratch the finish!!!!"
Damn I’m gonna miss Mark, but I’m very happy for him. I’ve been watching gotd everyday for the past two years and I don’t think I ever missed an episode. Finding someone likable to replace Mark is gonna be extremely hard. I hope they can pull it off.
Greg Koch would be great but he plays way too good and tours too much to be stuck in California I think. I live near him too and would hate to see him leave!
Makes total sense for Gibson, he has brand experience and real-world experience as well as name recognition. I will miss guitar of the day as I don't think it will be the same without Mark.............. Norm has invested a considerable part of his life training Mark, this is a big loss for Norm's Rare Guitars. For Mark I would imagine this is a dream job, can't blame him at all, so congrats to Mark. In the end Norm's will continue on and Gibson looks to be making great strides in repairing decades of mismanagement . I think/hope to see great things for Gibson, fingers-crossed that they continue their upward trajectory.
I think it’s good all around. I like Mark’s passion for guitars and Gibson, so I’m glad he will be an influence there, and I’m definitely looking forward to a different, fresh personality on Guitar of the Day.
I'm sure Mark will be awesome with Gibson, he's the exact kind of guy they need to boost their social media and PR rep! And yeah, I'll still give Norm's upcoming G.O.O.D. vids a looksee, but you're right...Mark left some mighty big shoes to fill!
I think the hiring of Mark Agnesi by Gibson is kind of a stroke of genius. He's young enough to still understand what younger customers want and still a "veteran" to know what that vintage feel and sound is all about. I don't know what his role in the company will be, but I'm hoping it involves some kind of impact on entry level guitars and lowering the number of the R8 R9 etc, custom shop, and M2M Les Pauls. Personally I think they've saturated the market for the past 20 years and honestly, it's confusing and extremely expensive. As far as guitar of the day, I'll check it out and see how I like it. I would hope whomever takes over doesn't try to imitate or even try to do it the same way or same style as Mark and make it their own.
As much as I'll miss Mark, I'm really glad Gibson is taking him in. He's business-minded and his passion for guitars and their history could mean great things for Gibson's future. I don't think too many people will disagree that Gibson made a great choice.

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Mark A, and a great promotional guy for Gibson -- win-win; only Norm loses but he'll attract somebody good - and life goes on
Norm knows a couple guitarists.
If Stevie T came as an April Fool’s joke I would crack
Gibson: consumers don't trust us. Whom *do* they trust?
RUclips: ummm, Mark Agnessi?
Gibson: hire him!
at least he can't scratch the sh*t out of those sweet vintage guitars with the sharp zippers on his "cool" leather jacket or smack them with his rings anymore
..you were wrong .... new host Michael Lemmo's is killing it ...
I really want it to be Phil X!
Love the show. Met Mark at Norms a couple years ago. Cool guy!
This is some of the best news I've heard from gibson in the past year
Definitely a huge gain for Gibson and a huge loss for Norman's. I always loved the energy and presence he brought to guitar of the day.
I was shocked too as I enjoyed Mark's vids especially STRATURDAY! However, Michael Lemmo is more than capable. He plays different and is perhaps better versed in some styles than Mark was. Norm"s channel will not go the way Fretted Americana did.
awesome! no way this can go wrong!........... right?
Happy for Mark and Gibson, at a loss for Norm's. Whatever the future holds for all parties involved, I wish them the best.
And be able to play well. There is no shortage of talent, I am sure Norm will have a line of people to choose from.
In other words, he’ll be doing something similar to what he’s doing now. Rock on Mark!
I hope the new host for Norm will know how to not overdrive the amp with EVERY electric guitar he demo's.
I would wan't to see:
Jonathan Ke Quan/Ke Huy Quan
Brian Bloom
Josh Dun
Thomas Doherty
Peyton Clark
Nick Hargrove
And just to name a few...
These are the people I would be fond to see take Mark's place. Like if you wan't see them take Mark's place too.
Maybe Gibson should also give you a job, Trogly, as a subordinate of Mark's. You know so much about Gibson and Gibson has always been your top priority.
Trogly is free gold for gibson. He's already advertising and spreading their history almost daily. Why miss up a good thing!
This is one of the best things Gibson could have done.
Nah, that would have been giving me some free guitars.
He looks like he plays authentic
Mark is amazing at guitar! 🥰
I 100% support Mark's decision to jump on board with the new Gibson team. Gibson will benefit from Mark with his knowledge and passion he has for guitars. I love Norm's show on youtube. I'll continue to watch, non judgemental, as i watch the torche get passed on. Change is good!
@@davidkastin4240 we shall see.. The process of change is hard.
@@davidkastin4240 I here ya! I hope he does well with Gibson. But a selfish part of me hope's he found out to not be his thing and come back.
Mark..ERIC VON ZIPPER...HE screeewed up lots a vintage guitars with his leather zipper jackets .
Norms should hire Peter Honoré (Danish Pete) from Andertons. He's awesome. Funny, internet savvy, can play guitar and has a genuine love for guitars.
Danish Pete definitely has the stuff guitar "JAMS" are made of.. With or without pedals, amp, or a guitar with to many switches on it.. 👍
Lemmo's doing ok with guitar of the day....
So happy for Mark but ill miss him on guitar of the day
It's Lemmo, guys, and he's awesome, so chill
I chuckled at seeing all the beginning shots of Mark holding Fenders, subtle unintended trolling there. 😁
Lastly, you need one of your regular commenters to start typing in ALL CAPS LIKE CARLOS GUITARLOS!
🤘😎🎸
Keep on rockin' Austin.
Sassy Cat agreed with john 👍
I can see Bollinger do GOTD, good call.
I've learned a lot over the years from Mark. I've seen every GOTD episode. He's going be great for Gibson - if they let him play a creative role in the company that has a direct effect on non pro customers. If it's just catering to and providing instruments for the pros, then nobody's gonna care.
Damn it will never be the same
Lemmo is killing it, but I can't see him managing the shop. That young man is going to be on the road showing off his guitar skills! He is truly an excellent guitarist!
Wow, I watch you both. Norm is Losing a Treasure.
Been watching Mark for so long. Really happy for him. Remember when he played a couple Deans just for me. Such a great guy.
Besides you Austin, I've been watching Mark and Jen with Guitar of the day since its inception. Also it's the ONLY OTHER Guitar Channel ( yours included ), that I
Subscribe to. I don't know how many songs you know that chime in the year make and model of the
particular guitar, your song selections would have to be VERY
EXTENSIVE! I feel that you could
DEFINITELY handle the Business
Part of the Job. It would bring my
two Guitar channels into One Very
Interesting Show. I am Sad Mark
Is leaving, a lot of PEOPLE feel the same way, but kind of excited to see Who's Next! Thank GOD Jen
will still be Shooting the show, I
Just LOVE JEN, and She is an
Intrical Part of That Show! As
Always Austin, I'm still Glad we've
Got You................................🎸💚
Norm has done alright so far he will figure it out. Good luck Mark i will miss your vids! You are good for your show stay here .
Damn I’m gonna miss Mark, but I’m very happy for him. I’ve been watching gotd everyday for the past two years and I don’t think I ever missed an episode. Finding someone likable to replace Mark is gonna be extremely hard. I hope they can pull it off.
That guy from wildwood with way too much energy should be the new host
Yes! Greg Koch, great suggestion!!!
He’s the best
Greg Koch would be great but he plays way too good and tours too much to be stuck in California I think. I live near him too and would hate to see him leave!
@@headstockharem4 True
Some shoes are never filled. Sometimes your replacement is a vacancy.
Dream big, Mark.
Good luck to Norm.
I would hope whomever takes over doesn't try to imitate or even try to do it the same way or same style as Mark and make it their own.
was not a great idea finally
As much as I'll miss Mark, I'm really glad Gibson is taking him in. He's business-minded and his passion for guitars and their history could mean great things for Gibson's future. I don't think too many people will disagree that Gibson made a great choice.

Just visited during NAMM and got a custom ‘78 or some such.
