I used to know how to skate a little when I was younger. I decided I want to learn for real now I’ll be 57 in few weeks and I have arthritis in the knees. I just got my skates this week and have been practicing in the house first, mainly for balance. I’ve been watching and practicing your 7 minute video and I can tell the difference already. Even my knees feel better. I’m going to go outside and practice that video this weekend and can’t wait to try this one. My friends laughed when I told them I’m going to take up skating since I’m older and not in the best shape. Not the worst but not the best either. But I feel I can do this, especially since I can relate to you. You look like my daughters. I have 5 ! Keep making your videos I’m watching and learning and I love your new split screen technique. Also I have an autistic grandson, age 13 who is non verbal. I see you ❤. Love this and I’m going to do this! I love the way you teach!! ❤
I was in your place last year this same time...best decision I made to get back into skating...down 51 pounds and 8 pounds from goal weight. Let them laugh and while they are laughing you will be enjoying your new roller skating life...good for you😅
Ladie I’m with you. I’m 61 and just started back skating after 40 plus years n I’m loving it. I too have arthritis in one knee but I skate anyway. Some times I’ll take a Tylenol before when I wanna skate for 3 hours or more 😂 but it’s a life changer for me. We got this ladies. Love❤
See if your autistic grandson would like to go skating with you if you haven't thought of that already. As someone also on the spectrum, a lot of autistics feel left out, and he might feel especially so as non verbal. Skating might be a little harder for him at first because autism messes with physical coordination at first, but if he likes it and you encourage him, he may love it, and then you have a buddy.
Me not owning any skates, having no intention of getting any, just had to say you are an amazing teacher! Your energy, your information, your demonstrations! On point, I'm sure many people are going to learn so much from you 🖤
I just wanted to say I'm grateful for you explaining this process throughout the video. Without it i might've never learned to skate backwards. But because of your guidance i managed to learn how to in only 3 hours! I don't know how i did but it's definitely thanks to you🙏
Love this! My biggest problem with backwards skating so far isn't the actual skating itself, but that whenever I start to actually look behind me when I do it I start to lean to turn to the side, no matter how straight I try to keep my shoulders. Also I still haven't been able to nail transitions without consistently falling on my ass 😅
when you skate, try to skate around an oval shape, like most skate rinks, and then as you skate backwards, look over the shoulder on the inside of the rink, so when you turn it's within the rink shape and you don't crash into anything because you're not looking. Maybe turn your head just 90 degrees and use your peripheral vision or move your eyes the rest of the way, that could be it. I'm also struggling with transitions too. Invest in some kneepads and train yourself to fall on your knees in a sliding direction, it'll hurt less. Odds are you aren't opening up for your transitions enough, so look up drills for hip flexibility. I've been told I open all the way up but then get scared and pull my feet back in lol so that's also possible. Start them stationary and really get the opening up down, multiple times and then move a little faster so you can't get away with not opening up all the way. As we say on the derby team: 'if you're not falling you're not learning!' good luck!
Did I break my arm trying to learn to skate backwards 5 days ago?? Yes. Am I still going to watch this video so I can try again when my elbow is mended?? Also yes. P.S. always wear your protective gear when trying new things!!!
oh no, I did the same thing! whacked down and sprained my knee on rental skates. got pads of my own and now I'm skating once a week! hope you're feeling better out there too, happy jamming :)
Sharing your videos with my youngest skater, and I am remembering my love for it at 45. Your videos are great, clear and explaining the importance of body positioning is so important. 👏🏻
I'm so excited to try this! I can do very painfully slow bubbles going backwards, but I think the tip about loosening up my trucks will help a lot. Thank you for the amazing and uplifting advice! Fingers crossed for my next skating session :)
Perfect timing for this video! I'm celebrating my 25th bday by taking my friends skating tomorrow, and ngl I kinda wanna show off a little teeny bit 😅Thank you!
I'm 30 this year. Never stuck to skating. Earlier I was at the rink cuz I recently picked it back up cuz my daughter picked it up. I thought maybe loosening the trucks up a bit would help. Come home tonight, listened to this. You said that and now I can go backwards. It was my trucks holding me back. Not the spankin new skates.
I am still working on my balance and posture going forward. I am really struggling to get my body position right. I think I'm doing it right, until I watch the video of me that I recorded. Then I'm like, "Oh dear!" It's all wrong! I hope someday soon I'll get it right. I would love to move on and start learning some new things. Great video! I am saving it in my skating playlist so I can refer back to it once I've gotten forward skating down. Thank you for sharing this!
Love your videos !!! I just ordered my Moxi’s and I’m so excited to start skating again many years later. I thought I would be fine but after putting on my old skates and realized I could not go forward 😂 I for sure will need your videos on hand 😊
Your videos are so helpful! I recently bought roller skates and practiced for the fourth time today and can already do the Walt’s jump and heel toe spin, because you explain everything so thoroughly. Thank you 💞
Thanks for this guide!! Recently got into roller skating and one of my goals is to be able to smoothly skate backwards because it looks so cool!! Will def be working on this whenever I can. Keep up the great work!
DASIA! Thank you for ur videos! I sprained my ankle in '22 and just hoped back on my skates yesterday, you taught me so much about shifting my weight I literally learned how to skate backwards in one day and now just getting the grove and making adjustments each day !
IT WORKS! your video taught me how to skate forward, and now this one taught me how to skate backwards! it took several days of consistent practice, but I followed everything you said and it got me right where you promised. Now i just gotta get smoother! Thank you!
It's negative artic temps outside and usually a bicyclist, and it's too cold for that hobby. I started skating with my girls, and now I'm obsessed! I'm learning some new tricks thanks to your videos. Yesterday skating was such a positive experience watching the young ones, watching the ladies on expert level bust their moves. Then, the young ones would mimic and try to land their tricks. Such joy!
Wow…! You're doing a really great job! Since I'm not the youngest generation anymore but a passionate inline speed skater, I decided to bring a little more rhythm, movement, and fun into my life. As a kid, I used to rollerskate a lot but for at least 25 years I'm only into inline skates. Your tutorials brought back memories and helped me not look that shaky… Thanks for your time and effort. 🤩
I haven’t tried it yet but I just watched 5 of your videos and they are VERY informative! Thanks so much! Also liked how they are short informative videos.
I figured out how to do this on my own just yesterday. If I had seen your video sooner, it would have helped me so much! The easiest break down of skating backwards I have seen on youtube, thank you!
Thank you so much! You've made me want to buy a pair and give skating a go! I definitely won't starting here, but watching your videos makes me excited for when I finally can give this a try.
I believe you when you say it's more fun! Can't wait to skate backwards tmrw PROPERLY 😂Instantly subbing to your channel love your way of teaching and personality x and gurl you fine! 🔥
Dasia, much love for the super technical tutorial. Skating backwards is one of the only thing that I've had so much trouble with. I'm trying this at the rink next time! ✌
I decided...literally last night that I was going to learn how to skate backwards. I can do the whole skating forward, turn, and roll backwards for like 3 seconds. Thank you! I will be trying this ASAP!
Great vids. Just took back to skating both 4 and inline skates. Find these very helpful. At 54 I so find myself very stiff and very cautious. Short of wrapping myself in bubble wrap, I bought every piece of safety gear you can find! TY for the information.
see i was terrified to get back on my skates after taking a nasty fall.... but this- these lessons are exactly what i needed! and you're so sweet!!!!!!! thank you for posting this content!!!!!
I was watching this video while at the skate park to practice I’m still trying to get more comfortable but doing long distance bubbles really helps you grow to be comfortable
I love all your videos🫶🏼🫶🏼You are very funny, friendly and you are excellent teaching. With these videos you make me feel more relaxed and I feel that I will get there with every new move. 😃😃😃😃
My first time skating backwards EVER and I’m so glad I found this video!! But Im still having trouble actually doing it. From watching your video I can do the bubbles pretty okay for a beginner but putting it altogether is challenging
I started rollerskating a month ago and ive already progressed so much! i can do pretty much everything skating forward, I learnt how to transition, and now i just needed to learn to skate backwards *from* that transition, so i watched this, got outside, fell on my ass for a few hours, and then eventually skated backwards, albeit slowly, but i can work into it more!
Just 2 days ago i didnt know how to skate and slipped and fell at the slightest mivement but 2 days later and im learning how to skaye backwards thank you so much!😊
I wish I had seen this back in the day when I used to go skating a lot. I was pretty good, I was fast, I could jump, spin, bend down, dance. But I couldn't skate backward to save my life.
Love these tips, been trying to teach my partner to backwards skate, I've been skating for so long I'm not a good teacher lol. The best way i describe it is "pizza french fry, but backwards" the bubble makes more sense 😂
