  • In the final video with this hateful car, I get the Omega running again, and suffer massive buyer's remorse. As the thumbnail says - this car sucks - by far the worst car I've ever bought. Now I just have to figure out what to do with it.
    With the Vauxhall Omega V6 project out the way, we can finally get back the Misty the MR2 in the next video
    Now that we're able to make videos with some semblance of consistency, we've decided to restart our Patreon - you can check that out here - / enginesandunfinishedbu...

    I loved your explanation of why not to do the re tapping, showing how you were doing the thing you were saying you shouldn't do. And the defeat in your voice when you said "And I fixed it." was icing on the cake. Well done.
    I feel you about this car. So many times I have had a war with my heart "I need this, it is on my bucket list." and my mind "It is shit, you can't afford to deal with a project, you have too many projects already." I am about 50/50 on what wins. 😀

      Thanks! 2/3 vehicles I’ve bought sight unseen have been awesome bargains (Misty and the CB500), so I really shouldn’t complain too much, I was due a lemon 😆

    Hi guys 👋, I love your channel, it’s always entertaining and nice to see your getting back to making more content, i would love to be able to become a patron but I’m currently rebuilding my own mr2, and all the pennies from the back of the sofa go on her. Keep up the good work guys and I look forward to seeing more from you soon 👍

    I laughed way too hard at the honking removal of the shop towels. Hilarious

      Reminds me somewhat of The Skid Factory hammer blows cover sound though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

      They’ve put way too much detail and effort into that section. Had me giggling

    I have suffered lifter tick on an e30 for the last 200k miles. Using fully synthetic does quieten it somewhat.

  • @vintageshed965
    @vintageshed965 9 месяцев назад +1

    Lifter tick this heavy, shouldn´t be taken so lightly (pun intended). My relative got lifter stuck on his old Skoda Superb, it made this exact horrible sound, lifter got clogged up with dirty oil, got stuck , proceeded to bounce between valve stem and camshaft, and in the process rounded off the camshaft lobe. In the end it cost him around 2k in pounds to buy a "new" engine from wreckers and get the car to drive again.

    • @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness  9 месяцев назад

      The tick was just as bad with a cold engine, so I’ve stopped driving it for now, still not sure what my next move is

    • @FixingWithFriends
      @FixingWithFriends 9 месяцев назад

      OH no! It's still bad? There is an engine detergent thing you can mix with the oil if you thought it was a blockage (as opposed to some other issue). But Eric the Car guy tried it on a honda, then the little bits clogged the oil pickup or something. So you would probably want to pull the pan. And at that point... does it fix it or is it time better spent overhauling it, swapping it, or just working on the car you actually want to work on?
      Before going to crazy, is there something that was done that you can think of which might have caused the problem, given it didn't do it before? The CAS/computer needs resetting? A spark plug clearance issue (seems a bit of a reach)? I mean, flukes do happen when you fix one thing but..🤷‍♀
      I just really hope it doesn't cause you any more grief, I know that's like and I know you've already had more than your fair share (almost every step of the way) with the MR2.

    Sorry you haven't gotten on well with this one dude. I've enjoyed the content that came out of it though, so it's not all bad!

      Thanks, I wouldn’t mind this car being a bit of a lemon so much, if it hadn’t taken so much time that we could have been spending on the MR2

    Did you use good quality oil? Vauxhalls are funny about engine oil. Castoral with the right grade worked well for me. I used cheap oil and the lifters started ticking. Just a thought :) also might help the smoke. Some cheap oils just burn up and cause smoke.

    Pretty sweet that you got the time-travel function to work! How is 1997? Or are you even able to read this comment...? I don't think YT has been invented yet...

    Run 20w or higher weight fully synthetic oil and hotter spark plugs. I drove a corolla with extremely high oil consumption for a year or 2 like this. The fully synthetic oil won't burn and won't produce blue smoke. It was the fully optioned model with the 100kW 4AGE which included an oil pressure gauge in the dash which saved me from running out of oil about 3 times.

      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness  9 месяцев назад +1

      The smoke has gone now, I suspect it was just burning the oil that got into the combustion chambers when I took the plugs out

    ...That's not rod knock is it? Wait, I think you addressed that when you got it. *(also later in the video)

    • @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness  9 месяцев назад +1

      It could be, I don’t have the skill/experience to diagnose from sound alone. Although from watching other video of rod knock this sounds more ticky and leas thumpy than rod knock/piston slap 🤞

    • @FixingWithFriends
      @FixingWithFriends 9 месяцев назад

      Yeah it's always hard to hear from the video so I wasn't sure. The fact it got quiter with the additive was really reassuring though. My Oldsmobile will make quite the sounds after it has been sitting for a while, not sure why... but it goes away after running a bit.
      Anyway I hope it works out just fine and you can use it as desired while working on your MR2.

      @AnginesAndUnfinishedBusiness ...I may have done something dumb and bought another vehicle but this time it doesn't even drive. 🤦‍♀
      Hopefully I don't run into similar issues, but I am pretty sure I just threw away $2750.
      Re-watching these I always wish I could come at least offer to lend a hand (damn oceans), because I know exactly what this is like.
      Again, I wish you guys good luck with your vehicles and I hope the little ones are doing well.

    Did absolutely enjoy the content though. Even if it hurt you.

    • @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness  9 месяцев назад

      The engine is the part of this car that was made in England, so at least you wouldn’t have had this crappy v6 in your commodores. Plus you got to have an LS which we never had as an option 😕
