Hello Art n Bri and all your precious kiddos. I've been binge watching you guys from my hospital bed and truley loving your family and your beautiful homestead. As I'm always in my bed t night watching on my smart TV, there is no way I can subscribe on there so today when I was finished up with my work in the kitchen, I was determined to come on line and subscribe and let you know how you make me smile when I'm alone. I'll try keeping in touch now, I already saw the video when your second pup was found and that one made me SOOOOO happy. Give the kids my love n you two stay as honest and simple as you are now, that makes you very special. XOXO Gloria a 70 yr old granny.

Watching your precious family, especially your beautiful children so full of life and love, is like sitting in front of a warm fireplace on a cold night. Your videos fill us with hope for the future. Thanks for sharing your riches with us.
BTW, I love red or white potatoes almost anyway you can fix them. Red potatoes pan fried with butter and herbs are great. And I always sneak a few pieces of raw potato out of the batch like I used to do when I was helping my mother in the kitchen as a kid, been doing that for almost 70 years. Love it. Thanks for the memories.

That's a wonderful first year of spuds and yes, fresh potatoes are wonderful. I particularly like freshly dug baby potatoes. Loved all the humorous little bits in this video and watching you all work as a family on your harvest. Reading a story out loud whilst the others do the dishes is a lovely idea Bri :)

Great family, great practice and this is what my wife and I call real fun. I like how everyone in the family is engaged. This keeps the children active, teaches them to work and make use of their backyards, gardens and any available space rather than run to the grocery stores which are full of costly GM foods. This saves you a lot. Keep it up and all the best.

Oh yes, i love fresh potatoes. My family grew an acre sized garden and potatoes were at least a third of the crop. We stored them in the potato room in the cellar a 10 X 10 by 8 foot high. The potatoes filled the room stacked to the ceiling. That would last our family of 9 until spring planting. We also stored carrots in the cellar. You top, clean and air dry the carrots. In a large wood box layer clean sand, a layer of carrots that aren't touching one another then cover with another layer of sand until the box is full. The carrots will last months just as good as they came out of the ground.

Art I'm sure you do it way more than we ever see on camera but just wanted to give you props for letting Brit boy "help" you carry the bucket and wheel barrow. I have a 19 month old that wants to be just like me and do everything daddy does and I try and let him "help" as much as I can cause the joy on his face is what life is all about. And I know it's hard for us Dad's to have the patience sometimes so 👍🏻 to you sir!

Tiny new potatoes fried up crispy on the outside and tender on the inside! Delish! One year we harvested our potatoes and left them in the sun to harden. Our young teen son and daughter were supposed to rinse them off, put them in baskets after they got home from school. However, when I came home, from work there were potatoes all over the yard and I had a broken window. :( They had gotten into an argument, started throwing potatoes at each other and threw one through the kitchen window. We refer to this as The Great Potato War. LOL

Lovely video. Yes, I have tasted real FRESH potatoes. I spend months of the year in Portugal, central, and all my neighbors have their yard with a similar garden. Their extra crop are the grapes and we make wine. Everything else is from mother Earth: garluc, onions, celery, potatoes, beans of many colors, tomatoes of different shapes and colors, lettuce, oranges, lemons, apples, pears, bay leaves (a giant bush),rosemary, figs, peaches, and much more. Year round work but worth every inch. I live in Florida as well so I enjoy fresh food, then must search on farmers market for similar food. Thanks for sharing. You have a precious family.

My grandparents lived in the Ozarks until I was in my 20s and my grandpa's pride and joy was the half acre potato garden right behind the house. Literally, nothing but potatoes. Come harvest time they'd have racks and racks in the basement floor to ceiling of spuds. Oh. My. God. Those potatoes were the best I've ever had. I think they were just regular reds but they tasted amazing. Your video about your harvest brought back really good memories (however my grandpa used a tractor to harvest his taters!)

Great work! My grandparents store potatoes from their garden in their basement. My nana hasn't purchased potatoes in all the years my Grampa has been tending crops. They have enough to store for the entire year, even with family coming for big dinners and thanksgiving and xmas dinner at their house! I can't wait to have my own land and crop garden. Keep up the good work and keep learning!

Growing up over here in blighty my father had 2 allotments almost all put to growing potatoes. We would have a huge harvest all stored in paper sacks at a friends farm. They would be bartered for meat, logs, other veggies, and services like chimney cleaning amongst the local community. Back at home we also had a garden with salad / new potatoes which would be dug up and only cooked fresh. Can't beat fresh spuds from the garden! Thanks for showing us your lovely garden.

I grow them every year, not enough to store, but we eat them during late summer. One thing I noticed was you dug your potatoes to early. Those plants were still green and growing. You could have gotten a bigger crop had you let them sit until the tops die off. When the plant turns brown, that's when you harvest them. I don't grow enough to store so I purchase them in Oct. If you store them to early, they will rot before you eat them all. They like to be cold and dark and dry, to store well. There's always next year.

Yes I have ;) totally lovely . Used to have an allotment of land, with potatoes , runner beans and herbs.
As was hinted at in this video, the trick to a higher yield is to thoroughly dig over the growing area first. Then place the rows.
In hot weather they need plenty of water, and for bigger ones I used seaweed extract. In Ireland, it was traditional to gather seaweed from the beach for their potato crop.
If you have the time, the extra watering and feeding pays off and you can achieve large jacket potato sizes plus a bigger yield :)
Quicker to foliar feed them with a sprayer if you have one.
Lovely video , lovely people ;)

We call them "New Potatoes" in my neck of the woods. And yes I've had them many times. Our two favorite ways to fix them are Parsley potatoes which is boiled and drained new potatoes covered with butter in which there is several tablespoons of minced parsley and a dash of garlic. The other way is New Potatoes and Peas...Which is potatoes and peas cooked separately combined with a white gravy or sauce. The gravy needs to be seasoned with garlic and onion. Toss the whole kit and kaboodle together and serve with some zucchini and green beans as well as sliced tomatoes and you have a summer feast! Sending love!

Hey! Great harvest! I'm so jealous of your out buildings! So much room with great circulations and dark conditions, perfect for curing! My taters were spread out all over our cabin curing! Your soil, like mine and most folks in the south, could really benefit from a thorough broadforking! I've had much better harvests from all of the root crops since I've been broadforking! It's a lot of work but every time I fork it gets easier. Work in the amendments and compost as you go. You can even use the fork when you are harvesting, although I know you are probably partial to your stick Art! :) Always enjoy your vlogs!

Wow. Good for you guys! I grew potatoes for the first time this year too! I got about 50-60lbs out of a 12×6 ft raised bed. No root cellar though, so freezing and dehydrating up a storm. Fresh potatoes are better!

Great harvest. I love new potatoes. A diabetic bit of tidbit is that new potatoes haven't had time to convert all of the starch which makes them easier on the blood sugar...so I enjoy them all I can this time of year. Also, make sure your potatoes are cured in the dark... a little light can turn them green....Ask me how I know this. Lost a whole harvest one year. Just cover them with a dark cloth. I break all the rules for storage.... I wash them, cure them then store them in an old refrigerator with the temp set as high as it will go... not lower. I can keep them for a whole year. Same with carrots.

Yes! I've grown potatoes and my parents grew them when I was growing up. There's a WORLD of difference in the ones you grow and the ones you get at the grocery store.
In fact, Art, if you were to eat one of mine and then taste yours, even though they might be the same variety, they would be different cause they get their taste from the soil they are grown in along with the minerals and nutrients their vines pull from the soil and store in the potatoes.
After all, those are their 'babies' -- expected to carry on their genes into the future!

The only potatoes that we ever grew were grown not far from where you live. On our blueberry farm there we planted our first potato garden plot. We had more beautiful potatoes than anyone could ever wish for. We ate them, gave them away and stored all that we had room for. You are right, they were the most delicious potatoes that we had ever tasted, because they were fresh and we had grown them on our own farm. You're making me hungry for fresh picked fried okra! Yum! Journey On!

by using the soil in the green house for a winter planting I can get 4 harvests per year. So I only store them for a month or 2. As I harvest I replant the small ones or vines that have started new growth. So yes I eat most of my potatoes fresh.
