It is so nice to see people who give when they see a need.I think a lot of that has been lost in the modern times we live in.In my father's day, everyone had milk cows and pigs so when you slaughtered a pig you would give your neighbors fresh meat and they would do the same so that way you could have fresh meat more often. If you had an abundance of milk and your neighbor had none you shared then when their cow came into milk if your cow was dry the favor was returned.I like the idea of work parties it is more fun to work on someone else's project than your own many hands make for light work.It was good that you gave them a mix of pullets and older girls.

what a good gift. Yes that is awesome that you can give back. I save my energy and do my chicken collecting after they go to roost in the evening. It is so much easier to just pick them straight up off their perch than trying to catch them, besides the potential injury/harm the hens could occur from a possible egg busting inside them. Blessings to you, thnx for sharing.

hi i watch you guys from Australia. loving to be able to give back and share with people is a beautiful thing. here in Australia a friend of mine Andrew barker has set up a movement called Grow free! its moto is" give what you can take what you need". we have a face book page if you look up grow free. its about sharing with local comunity any exess produce and stopping waste. we have sharing carts (over 100 now) for people to put any produce for any one to take. but we are also about working bees, teaching children, making food free and just "being the change". we would love for grow free to go international and when i saw this vlog it made me think you guys would be the perfect people to maybe set up your own grow free cart and start the movement over there in the USA. We have had kids start carts here we have a 10 year old who runs and maintains a cart (very proud of that kid) anyway cheak us out on face book see what you think. im not good at adding links and stuff sorry. grow free is for everyone no money ever changes hands. not even about bartering just true giving. btw love you guys and the roads watch both familys every day.

    • @susannahedwards2891

ok ive never heard of them as im in Australia. we are more then just the shareing tables we also grow seedlings and give them away so anyone can learn to grow there own food. we are also not part of any church or religion. just a group of people wanting organic food to be for everyone not just the select few. i think we have hit over 10,000 members mainly in south Australia but a few in Melbourne now. plus i found out today we have a few people looking to start carts in USA so super happy about that. glad you have a simular thing over there. shareing with comunity is the best.

I'm so glad I watched this video, because when I saw the title I thought what's wrong with her? I thought the idea was to build the flock not give them away! Thinking is was a decision made in haste. LOL but then you explained about The people that gave you Dolly and an unborn calf. And their chickens had recently been wiped out. So you were just paying it forward basically. LOL I had no right to think that in the beginning anyway, their your chickens to do with what you want and who am I to get worked up. LOL but I guess looking forward to the video's everyday I've gotten sort of attached to the animals too. I was even bumming when you decided to quit milking the goats. Because you wanted to bond with the cow. LOL I thought poor goats, well out with the old in with the new. 😀 Don't worry Joyful, I felt the same way about the Chickens until your Mommy explained it was helping the nice people that gave you Dolly. Wow how cool was that? To just give you a bred Jersey! I sure do understand why you wanted to help them out. What a great vlog today.

How do you keep chickens warm enough during the winter? If that's a stupid question, sorry, but I wanted to know. Love your videos and just subscribed :)
