Cycled the Dempster Highway in 2019. Flew from New Zealand to Inuvik via Vancouver and Yellowknife. Hitchhiked up to Tuk for a couple nights than cycled to Dawson City and on south from there to Whitehorse. Amazing Journey and an incredible part of the world! The Stewart Cassiar Highway was loaded with Bears!! Your film brought back plenty of memories :)
@Jerry Daminato not to brag too much, but I actually cycled the entire American continent:) from Tuktoyaktuk all the way to Ushuaia in Argentina. It's actually a very popular long distance cycling route.
@@stephenhammond3656 we also are cyclists but not like you. I’ve done week long camping cycling 80 to 100 km/day. That’s my claim to fame. We tandemed for many years and now are recumbent trikes.
I would not do either one doesn't interest me at all. It's beautiful but not enough to go up there. How's Lucy I miss her terribly! Stay safe and take care of Lucy! 😍😍😍😍😍😍
That’s okay it’s a beautiful to watch on screen as well. Lucy is happy and well. Things haven’t quite gone as planned here (no surprise for us), but things are looking up and more videos are coming.
Good overview. I rode my motorcycle. I had time and budget for only one. I chose the Dempster, Because I'm Canadian, I believe I got lucky the more i've heard about them. I made the right choice without know why. The Dalton is better known. Scenery similar ect. The difference, Is hard to say because I haven't done the Dalton yet. I can tell you the most memorable part of my trip on the Dempster. Is how friendly and welcoming the people were. Tuktoyaktuk is a special place. So is Inuvik and Fort McPherson. Being able to get to the Arctic Ocean is a big plus. It's definitely a bucket list trip. I did a circuit of Alaska as well. Also amazing, I missed more than I saw. Must go back.
Thank you for this. I’m from Texas and have never been to Alaska. I don’t fly and at 72 pretty sure I’ll never see it. We’ve stopped traveling for several reasons, but I would have loved to have done both. Really enjoyed the video and info.
I did the Dempster in July 2022. Really enjoyed the adventure. I travelled 17000 klm round trip as I am from New Brunswick. I found the highway relaxing to drive just have to slow down for approaching traffic. Lots of camp sites. I stayed at organized sites and found them very clean and well managed. As I am 71 years old that will be my last long adventure, but I really would like to travel to the 48 lower states. I also did the Top of The World Highway to Chicken.
Beautiful. In 2018 we travelled the Dempster to Tuk. Super parts of Canada. We travelled 23,000 from Ontario to Hay River, Wood Buffalo Nat park to Fort Smith and Yellowknife. Score making our way over to Whitehorse and Dawson etc. we’d like to go back. We are 70 & 71 so you can do it. This year though we are headed back east to Cape Breton and thereabouts. We have a great country. 🇨🇦
Thanks. Glad you liked it. Let’s try and hook up one of these days. We’ll be in Rosarito for a couple more months before heading back to our truck in Europe.
Thanks. Glad you liked it. Life has been interesting lately and we have moved out of that first place because it was a nightmare of problems. Now we are settled into a new place and videos should start coming more often.
I got as far as about 50 north of Fairbanks in winter. Didn't want to drag my fifth wheel much further. The Dalton looks much more interesting next time I'm up that way. I'll probably be in a smaller rig.
It is beautiful. I worked along it for 15 years and knew every corner and straight away. The company I worked for we spent a lot of time looking out the windshield. I also had the time to explore every little pull off over the years. When I first started driving on the Dalton it was all gravel. They have also straightened a lot of the major corners.
I am not going to answer the question, “which one would I choose”, I am going to do both. I also want to visit Yellowknife in the NWT on Hudson Bay. I will leave no stone unturned in Alaska. I want to see the Bella Coola Valley on the west cost of BC and do the Trans-Canadian Hwy to include Labrador and Newfoundland. That is only the beginning for me starting in 6 years.
I think I'd choose the Dempster because I don't want to end up at an oil field. That said there is a certain attraction to crossing the Brooks Range. If I ever get to go I'll probably have to leave my wife behind as she has expressed no interest in seeing the Arctic Ocean, me the exact opposite. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Would anyone who has traveled these roads share their opinion of carrying a 2nd spare tire? F350 carrying truck camper. Don't really have room for a 2nd spare, basically seeing if anyone has " wished they had it". Thanks
I live 16 kilometers from the start of the Dempster, so I've been on at least parts of it many times. I have never had a problem at all with flat tires. However, I know of others that cannot say the same at all!, Sometimes , even two spares was not enough.
I prefer the gravel over the paved sections. It’s easier to flatten out the frost heaves. Pavement just becomes horrible after one year. Circle Hot Springs is no longer open. It’s in sad shape now. I hauled fuel up the Dalton, so I would choose the Dempster for the adventure.
Did the Dalton in 2019 had a great time . I complained about gas at DeadHorse being $5 per gallon . We had a great time at WhiteHorse and saw the turnoff for the Dempster and wondered and dreamed , Will the next Milepost book explain what is left after the Vid destroyed so many businesses ?
being on a motorcycle, i would be watching the weather closely and current road condition reports. once you decide, "get 'er done" quickly. do not play tourist and slowly meander up the road. take a few pictures at the artic ocean, and grind it back down...maybe a quick stop for a couple of hours of sleep, but get back to civilization as soon as possible.

That's gonna be tough on the tires
We drop the tire pressures a little to smooth out the road.
Yes, it’s definitely is hard on tires.

@@jerrydaminato743 Hi. If you are in the Doaktown area of New Brunswick, I would love to buy you a coffee.
Did the Dempster last year. What a fantastic ride... Unfortunately Grandma's kitchen was closed when we were up there.
The north country is amazing.
Looks like you guys have been covering a lot of ground.
So awesome!!

We’d like to do it again as well.
Looks like Dempster is the one trip I'd choose, and Have a Happy Easter, guys!!🤗🌺🏞🏞
Hello Maxine, sorry for the delayed reply. Hope you are well.
I can't decide !!! so I'll just have to do both I think 😉😉
You’re going to love all of it.
Lovely!
So you guys are back home from Europe adventure!
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
We are taking a traveling break in Mexico now and returning to the truck this summer.
Hello! Haven’t seen you in a long time, glad your back
Hello Lisa. Life has been interesting here but things are looking up.
Stay tuned for more videos.
Great video!
Thanks! Kim.

Great Video guys this has always been you Niche!
Thanks. We definitely have roots in the north country.
Think we’ll go Dempster. Really helpful mate.
There’s always option C do both.

Just park your Fifth wheel in Fairbanks and stay at Coldfoot or Wiseman and then Prudhoe.
Great info Mate. Cheers
Thanks Bob. Hope you guys are doing well.

Done both and am partial to the Dempster.
I kind of agree, but it’s a tough call.
@@outliersoverland loved both but the cultural experience staying in Tuktoyatuk visiting with the locals was a highlight
I'm thinking it over........
The easy answer is to do both.
good info :)

I think the scenery is better on the Dalton, but the anticlimactic ending…
Thank you we enjoy the show but why the ferry?
Glad you liked it.
There’s two rivers that need to be crossed by ferry in the summer months. In the winter it becomes an ice road over the river.
Would anyone who has traveled these roads share their opinion of carrying a 2nd spare tire? F350 carrying truck camper. Don't really have room for a 2nd spare, basically seeing if anyone has " wished they had it". Thanks
We only have one spare and things worked out, but if you have the space for two it would be nice.

Awesome, thank you! Very informative & all in a nutshell. I have 1 question...can you take one up and the other down? Or not
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Unfortunately they are one way up and down roads.

Free!!!

We met some guys on adventure motorcycles and the mud was so bad that a couple of them went down, but they had to push to the motel at Eagle Plains.
Did both. Dalton better on wildlife. Dempster better on services and tourist things.
By your own evaluation on the vid i would think you would of said Dempster…..
Good choice.
