Spring Bank Fishing With a Jig (MY NEW FAVORITE JIG!)

  • Bank fishing with a jig in the spring can be VERY productive. A finesse jig is a little lighter than I normally use and it makes a big difference from the bank. If you're new to jigs, this is a great choice for you. I was able to use this jig to work a number of rocky points and catch bass. Thanks for watching feeshin friends!

    Debo, you really paid your dues to the rock gods today. Great jig fishing. Headed out in an hour or so and I'm going to throw some jigs. FYI, crawfish can change colors to match the environment, but generally change back to that green/brown when they molt, as they outgrow their exoskeleton. The younger they are, the more often they molt. Once they mature, they molt less, so really take on the environmental color. Appreciate the vids!

    When im fishing I have a rule I like to follow. Rule is: if I loose 3 lures in an hour I'm done for the day. It helps save money and frustration. I've been keeping a jig tied on 1 combo at all times and I'm glad I've been doing so. The past couple weeks it's been helping because the bass at the creek I fish everyday have moved up on beds. Love the jig! And love the content DEBO! Thanks for all the tips!

    Took 2 hrs off work yesterday and caught some bass on a Booyah Pad Crusher Jr frog in bluegill pattern. The action of this bait is phenomenal!!! I walked up to my spot, casts out to stretch my line and BAM, caught a dink first thing!!! I caught a couple on a shakeyhead rig using a Big TRD worm but I changed back to the frog. Why??? Because I get addicted to the bite. Love that strike!!! No big smashes, just that creep up and suck it down hit. God, it's fun. And yes I had the geese from hell,as well!! I was ready to slap a few with my rod but I didn't feel like a standoff yesterday. Damn Knuck geese, you gotta hate em!!! They're nesting here with a vengeance. I actually caught a baby bass glide bait someone lost to a limb on my shakeyhead rig. Express baits edition so that was an even trade for losing a Chatterbait to a week ago 👌. Well it's time to get ready for work again. Ready to see a video on the catching crawfish & definitely a jig painting like you mentioned. And I love that reel as well. Shimano makes the nicest reels. My snag advice: Change your angle. If the usual methods dont work, and if you can walk left or right at all you should try it. Sometimes I disengage my spool, walk to the side as far as I can and am able to pop some seemingly impossible snags free just because the angle is different from the one that got me snagged, especially in rock.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  4 года назад +2

      Getting over around the other side is truly the #1 way. Sometimes...that's not always possible.

    Good stuff Debo! I'm here with ya -- from North Central Illinois and like to throw the jig but my farm ponds are already to weed and algae choked for fishing on the bottom. Been having better luck with the blade bait just over the weeds. I can drag the bottom with the jig in a gravel pit type environment but then I prefer the football head -- gets snagged less in the rocks. I know what ya mean by the big honker birds. They're fun to hunt but not much good for the fishing.

    Doing the same as Bass - Protecting the nest. But the feces pieces is absolutely a different story for the 2. Grab a hunting permit and a compound bow, eat 'em! Goose tastes great (there's a reason Ebenezer Scrooge asked for one near the end of the book). But note: Pluck the feathers immediately after they're dead. Otherwise is an enormous pain the the butt to get them out (although your friends & neighbors may have the drill attachment to remove the feathers which is much easier).

      @@DEBOSFishing 1 recipe (although not one which I would use, but to cook your first goose it's a very safe place to start): cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1015806-roast-goose
      As I said, you have to pull the feathers ASAP or else they'll become very hard to remove.
      A quality compound bow with good arrows and great tips can be used for as much as well as the animal everyone seems to believe are "so cute" and as a result they die by the truckload due to insufficient food in the winters because there are so many of them (some reputable sources claim they now outnumber people in the USA)... Deer (Venison) tastes exceptional so long as it's not frozen (or if frozen done with liquid nitrogen to flash freeze it, preventing large ice crystals from forming and shreading the meat from the inside out) and compound bows are fantastic for they as well.
      "Let's keep the cute little deer alive so that there are so many that there isn't enough food to keep them all alive through the winter and they starve to death en mass". Foolish thinking!

    Was glad you explained your thinking for throwing a black and blue jig (that kind of info is exactly why I always watch!). The "traditional thinking" would say black and blue for dirty water/low light, and not clear water/bluebird skies...yet you were killing them. So much for the traditional thinking. Couple of nights ago--after watching your video from a week ago where Randizzle was killing with a black and blue jig in bluebird skies--I threw a black and blue mini jig, and as it got darker, a black and blue mini spinnerbait, in a super clear pond and caught several...again not when traditional thinking would say to throw it. And geese...they're like God's practical joke for fishermen.

    Debo,
    Some great tips, Thank You. Don’t keep your line tight, watch your line. Both played a factor in catching my first fish for 2020. A nice little 2lbs small mouth bass on a weightless Senklo. I could not get any action on a shaky head or a jig, my preferred methods. Fishing has been very difficult in western MA. The rivers are ripping fast, high water for the past couple of months no let up, spring snow and rain are the cause. What do you recommend for fast moving water?
