  • Hello,
    In this episode of campfire cooking the humble potato gets a French makeover in the dutch oven. Potatoes Dauphinoise (or Potatoes au Gratin if using par boiled tateys) is a fairly simple side dish but really adds a bit of rustic French charm to a plate of scran.
    Thanks for watching!

    Looked incredible for campfire cooking, try layering the Dutch oven with thinly sliced potatoes, Charlottes, garlic. Then top up with a lamb or chicken stock, put a couple of lamb chops sitting on top , cover and cook long and low.

    I'm sure there's a business in there somewhere - al fresco dining at "Chez Ben et Tris".

I wish I knew people here with land to get a permission camp as sometimes it's nice to just go and chill and chop some wood etc. Those creamy French tats looked the business! I sometimes make them with Yams and although they don't take as long, they are delicious! I imagine those bluebells will be blooming soon enough and I bet that woodland looks amazing when they do! The beard's coming on too! Nice one mate :-)

      Hi Martin, hopefully I'll be able to transplant some hair from my face onto my heed! 😂 It's a shame you can't get regular access to 12 monkeys farm. I remember reading about Galicia and how they were selling off old farm houses in the mountains for next to nothing in an effort to bring new life into the declining rural populations. I wonder if Catalunya has a similar scheme?
      On a separate note I tried to link a website on your last video when you mentioned mountain biking but I think it was removed so I'll link it here; great site for bike packing stories and films! ATB mate.

      @@Adventure-Outdoors hey mate. Yeah, Galicia is a place I'd like to live eventually. Gets a lot more rain over that way and the weather can feel more British than Spanish. I walked a fair chunk of it when I walked the Camino and it's a spectacular part of the world, kind of like Spain was in the old days. If you've never been, I'd highly recommend it. Something similar in Catalonia is you can train to be a shepherd up in the Pyrenees and it's something I think about every day to be honest, only the exam and training is in Catalan so need to brush up on that! But one day, the mountains will be my home! Could do with winning the lottery 😂. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out now. There's a famous bike ride in Scotland called the north coast 500, I reckon that would be a good bike camp trip to do sometime. Cheers!

    • @Adventure-Outdoors
      @Adventure-Outdoors  Год назад +1

      @@whatsnottohike The shepherd training sounds interesting, I wonder how many people actually do it? It would be a nice life.......until the bears and wolves turn up. Yeah there's a good few off road routes up in Scotland, hopefully I'll get to do one this year. I was thinking about the route we done across the Pyrenees in the 4x4 a few years ago, doing it on a mountain bike would be epic!

      @whatsnottohike Год назад +1

      @@Adventure-Outdoors yeah there is a big campaign in Spain to try and get more shepherds. If you search shepherding Pyrenees guardian, there was an article recently. If I can improve my Catalan I'd love to do it. Cheers!
