Truly a legendary Aussie band. Iva Davies is a great vocalist and song writer. He is a classsically trained musician who plays oboe, piano and guitar. He has written scores for ballets and films. And he penned so many great Icehouse songs. Real talent! Thanks for posting this.
I remember an interview with ID on their return after this tour and how he freaked out while playing, seeing Bowie singing along backstage - how surreal it would have been for ID in his early days
For those that don't know see movie Young Einstein by Yahoo Serious and find this song done as video in movie. You won't regret it. I promise. This is best live version after seeing it even 36 yrs later. Absolute PERFECTION. Iva is a fascinating gentleman in many aspects. He truly captured the very soul of Australia when he wrote this song which is why to this day (4/2019) Aussies consider this song their 2nd National anthem. Very well done indeed Iva Davies. LOL still even now...
I always thought this song came out after Man of Colours in 1989, only to realize 32 years later it was a compilation CD!🤪 Regardless, it totally rocked my Harmon Kardon 150 wt home and car stereos. I'm blown away how well they performed it live and wished I was lucky enough to witness this performance in '83. Great year for rock and roll.
yep he used to play bass for Icehouse prior to being asked by Gilmour to tour with Floyd in 1987...he later on married Rick Wright's daughter ..lucky bastard!
Yeah...f***ing A! Great version, emphasises the guitar sound. Anyone catch a glimpse of the classic JJJ 'Exploding Head' tee shirt? I have one of those!
Echdrum - Guy Pratt was 20-21 at the time. I'm in the middle of his "My bass and Other Animals" atm. A great read, I highly reccomend it! You'll find a lot about his Icehouse times there :-)

This looks and sounds perfect, Steinberger Bass and all. This band was tight.

Classic an absolute classic from the early 80's Icehouse: Great Southern Land. They don't make songs like this anymore!
One of the best tunes I've heard.
