Honestly I did not have high hopes for this game. I’m pleasantly surprised to hear that it’s so great. The score at the end shocked me (in a good way). Thanks for the great review.
this year has been absolutely WILD for jrpg's tbh. not in order, of release or favoritism there's been... -Eiyuden chronicles: hundred heroes -FFVII rebirth (i dont technically count it as a traditional jrpg but its a remake of the classics, and some people would argue it is so ill just leave it here anyways) -Granblue fantasy Re-link -Persona 3 and DLC remake -Metaphor-Refantazio -Romancing SaGa2 Remake -Visions of Mana -Unicorn overlord (truly a sleeper hit imo) -Shin Megami Tensei V -maybe not a JprG but Astro Bot was incredible -The Paper Mario Remake -while not technically originally released this year, FFXVI got its pc release this year so ill count it lmaoo. -Like a Dragon: infinite wealth -Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak (this series is so underappreciated in the west, and its criminal cuz the worldbuilding is hands down THE best in the business) like. has this not been a year of resurgence for the genre as a whole? its incredible.
Thanks for the review! I pre ordered this as soon as I could after it was announced. I just finished up Metaphor Refantazio and im at the end of Trails into Reverie after putting that down. I plan to play this next.
@joebarrett29 yeah I'm playing it now. Originally Amazon didn't have a delivery date even on Release. Canceled my pre-order and bought it ar best buys it arrived the next day.
That's a tough call because I think DQ3 is going to be great, too. I think Revenge of the Seven will end up being more different from the original than DQ3 HD will be.
@@landoc3761 ive put about 80 hours in both and i'd say that theyre REALLY close when it comes to being the best jrpg for this year, who are also followed closely by persona 3 remake. honestly, this is just a GREAT year in general for jrpgs..or rpgs in general. (i dont technically count rebirth as a jrpg, altho i know some people still will. also was stellar) they tickle different itches, and the generational scope and replayability of saga 2 shouldnt be understated. as for metaphor, it feels kind of like atlus's magnum opus, a culimation of everything theyve learned making stellar jrpgs for years now. its not perfect ofc, but its very special. so the fact that a remake of a game most people in the west, have never played or heard of, comes close to that, is impressive. and technically speaking, we still arent done with the year, we have the DQIII HD-2D remake that could be just as good as these. i think is one of the best years for jrpgs in a long time.
This is a game that probably everyone rates different. Here we have a very high score but I've also seen some 5 or 6/10 ratings. I guess it really depends what kind of player you are. I suppose JRPG enthusiasts that value gameplay mechanics will love this game but if you are just here for the story or the characters it might not be that good for you.
This is a good assessment of the situation. It's not a game I would recommend to non-JRPG fans. It's traditional in a lot of ways and plays with a lot of familiar genre conventions.
Feels like every steam deck owner has this obligatory "will buy this on the steam deck" comment in every handheld video. Brainded deck users. Odin 2 is superior 😂
@@tiredcat1485 your assumptions tell a lot about you. just saying i'm lucky to being able to buy this on steam deck, still enjoying a lot of different games on switch. its not about being the most powerful, in that case everyone should buy an pc.

Glad you enjoyed it! I knew when I first went hands on that it was special, but I wasn't expecting to enjoy it this much!

Square Enix's lack of marketing for this game is truly criminal.

Thanks for watching! Let us know what you think of Romancing SaGa 2 when you finish!
Glad I pre-ordered this. It was only $50 too. Can't wait! Will help with the wait for ys10
What wait? Ys 10 is out the very next day after this releases

Was debating between this and DQ3-3D remake...

Should get both eventually. I'm picking up this evening though I'm not so familiar with the franchise. I really enjoyed the demo and the visuals.
This doesn’t have woke alteration and censorship so it’s an easy call.
You should get them both eventually, but don't play them at the same time. Great time to be a JRPG gamer! :)
Dear God that’s tough. Dq3 is absolutely fantastic, so I expect the remake to be great as well.
Wow! That's a shining review. I really want to play this! I'm trying to figure out where to slot this in for my play through!
You gotta make time for this one!
I knew this is the best JRPG in 2024
I'd say this and metaphor are pretty stellar, I wouldn't be able to pick the best of the two
Metaphor is buddy

This is great but Metaphor still takes the cake.
Getting more hyped for this game!
Played the Demo and enjoyed > will buy!
top 5 best JPRGs of the year for sure, maybe even top 3........

Interesting, the demo didn't grab me perhaps because this is a mechanics enthusiasts game..
I would recommend the 2d version which is 80% cheaper
you think this is better than DQ11? 😵😵😵😵
Dq11 is very overrated. Especially during act 2 and 3.
What a slog
I love DQ and 11 in particular, but it can feel a bit bloated. I found the pace and loop of Revenge of the Seven kept my attention more easily.
I'm enjoying this more than base DQ11, but idk about 11 S yet. That version was simply incredible imo
I wasn't too crazy about DQ11 myself. It lost me pretty early on. RS2's mechanics, while complicated, are just more fun to play around with IMO.
Awesome!
wow visual spoilers
❤
Looking at those graphics, damm, will buy it on steam deck. Time for switch 2 is here!
