This is THE BEST video out there for how to tune this carb. I like how he even tunes his bike the wrong way so you can hear what it will sound like. Thank you, BeRad!
the clips in the end - showing the exact symptoms of each setting are great reference.
this is one of those videos you find yourself coming back to for continuous guidance! GG
Glad it was helpful! No sense in showing someone how to adjust the carb if they don’t know which direction to go in 😊
Brad makes some of the best organized how-to videos I've seen. Excellent camera work and clear, concise directions without any useless content. I'll be grabbing a Lectron from him soon.
This is the best tuning video of the Lectron tuning I have seen ever. Great job B-Rad. I have 2 on my banshee & when I put the t5 pipes on it gave me a fit looking for the sweet spot. Thanks for your thorough video. God Speed.
This is the best instructional tuning video I've ever seen. Thank You!
I installed a Billetron 38 in my Husky TE250 earlier this week.... I haven't been able to take it out for a trail ride yet. But for a bike that was never easy to cold start, after the Billetron was in it fired right up and idled perfectly. 👍Throttle response was also quick and crisp. Weather is going to be cold and crappy this weekend but I'm still getting out for a ride with this new Lectron.
Heck yeah!
excellent video, nice clear instructions and good how-to, love the end of the video, a picture is worth 1000 words, but this video is worth 10,000! Going to pull the trigger on one for the RM!
Thank you for video. I've been trying to tune this bike. And the sound alone of how it should sound compared to running rich or lean helps a lot. I love you
Merry Christmas BeRAD I just found your videos 5 days ago and having a blast watching them I just picked up a new factory Demo YZ250X and can’t wait to rip up the trails again after taking a ten year break. Hope to see some new riding videos soon.
I have a 2018 yz250x with apex head, FMF. Just added the lectron. Enjoying it so far. This video was very helpful. Being able to hear the bike, the sputtering and different characteristics of lean and rich. Thanks again.
all you need now is vforce 3 reeds, higher comp piston and itll be a true monster
Just the video I needed amazing work mate I’ve been trying to find a good video like this to tune my lectron I can definitely say it is running very rich after watching your very detailed video definitely will subscribe
Fantastic guide. The colored text shown at the last quarter of the video with the symptoms helped me a bunch when configuring my 2017 YZ125 stock Mikuni! Mine ran terrible and sucked with mininal throttle input, riding at low speeds had me fighting my throttle and clutch. I use 32:1, and have not have issues with it, just the jetting.
You’ve saved me probably 30 minutes of reading, rereading, and hair pulling. Thanks!
Great video Brad! Stuff that is very helpful and explained very well.
This is the best carb tuning video I've ever seen.
Your video is very helpful! I had my Lectron H series tuned great from the factory. I'm definitely having to use your video to get my Billetron tuned right. Mine seems to be rich. Thank you for the great content!
Mine is to little rich but bike rips so
I really enjoyed the too lean and too rich examples. Pretty awesome you could show those examples in the field with that easy tuning. wow!
you made such a good tutorial like no one else on this earth!
Absolutely love how you showed how too rich and too lean ran, really helpful video man keep up the good work
Stellar video. I looked and high and low for a video like this. I have a SC 2 on my Beta 300 and could never find a video that actually showed what the different states of tune sounded/looked like. 🤘🤘
Great! I’ll try to do a more in depth one strictly about the signs. This is just surface level but at least a decent baseline for someone who doesn’t know. So many variables!
@@BeRAD YES BERAD...More indepth carb tuning vids! I sometimes have an off idle bog with my yz250X and hanging idle..Ran worse with APEX XC Head! Tried JD JEtting too ...better with sotck jets and stock head!! May buy Billetron though, looks like an AMAZING CARB for the WOODS!!!
You rock I just adjusted my h series and holt crap it flies especially paired with the ESR 325
I'm convinced you'll be new Jarvis one day. Your control of the bike is amazing man.
A viewer since the old times of the yz450 supermoto 😁
Haha long way to go to even touch Jarvis! But thank you 😊
Very good video, I have answers for a lot of my questions. Thank you guys
Best 2 stroke video I have ever seen. super explainfull!
Thanks. This is so much better than all the other video's.
Glad you think so! Definitely not much out there for actually showing what the different signs are if rich/lean.
Good job on the video. Something that you forgot to point out is that the engine will naturally run leaner at a given throttle setting when it has a higher load, so you should avoid tuning at low load conditions.
Great video I've been waiting for one of these I have the Lectron H series And it Would bog out like the lean condition in your video I got it runing better now but would love a fine tune Or in depth video of How it should sound and running right Video💯
Brad. This will soon be the most watched “how to tune a two stroke” video on RUclips. Lectron or not. Your examples of what a bike sounds and acts like when too rich/lean are great for people who may not have much experience. Kudos, man.
Also, what silencer are you running on that 125X? I feel like the TC2 really strips the power and responsiveness away compared to running the shorty. Makes it act like it’s running way rich.
Thanks Scott! I was considering doing a video more about how carbs work in general (comparing standard to metering rod) and then going more in depth with tuning like I did at the end here. Really just wanted a baseline to help customers get set up. That’d be sweet if the video blows up though!
I’m running the TC2. Haven’t ran a shorty yet but spark arrestor is needed a lot of places I ride. I also like my bikes to be kinda quiet.
Well done...
This right here.
Awesome video! Best one on the subject. I have a new Billetron on my 04 cr250 and its the bee's knees. Highly recommended.
Finaly one very interesting video on rich and lean sounds like engine.
THANKS 👏
Fantastic video! Well done!
VERY nice video. I am a new rider and this info helps a lot! Thank you!
Thank you you doing better than lectron them self big help about to fix my yz thank you for your help your amazing make more videos like this please
Awesome video, thanks for sharing your knowledge 👍
Great and simple video on tuning, love the demonstration of lean, rich and a perfect running engine. My H series is tuned pretty well but I'm looking to fine tune it even better.
Yeah I’ve yet to see any good info for people regarding what actually is rich or lean. It’s not super in depth but hopefully it at least helps people diagnose the obvious signs.
@@BeRAD this video saved me a ton of time. Thank you
What a perfect video. Thank you!
Very nicely explained 👌👌 gonna share it 🤘
Love the Endo at start
Awesome video! very helpful
Great Video, correct on all points.
Too lean can also cause difficult starting, dry plug, just went thru this issue with my Billetron38.
Idle should be 4 to 5 turns out, in less than 4 or hard starting adjust rod richer.
And make your determination riding, under load, on the stand isn't an adequate evaluation, ....just like BRad did in this video
excellent...I saw what my bike was doing. Now I know how to fix...thanks!!
Excellent how-to video on the new Billetron! I'll be ordering one, along w/ an XC dome, here very, very soon. :)
Thanks! Sounds great 😊
I have apex head mx dome an lectron carb this bike rips yz125 2003 so fast
What a great video! Thank you!
Best live example yet thank you. How do you know of the main is too lean tho
Excellent video and information. What's the RPM at when you are idling?
I will be ordering the first week in march!!!
You are a savior! Thank you
Super helpful! Thanks
Very clear xplnation👍
I bought my first yz 125 it’s a 97 and I plan on turning it into a woods bike.
Thank you much for this video
Hi Berad,
Is it possible for you to show us how to clean the billetron sometime? Can't find anything on the internet on how to do it properly and dismantle in the right order. Because it's a different style of design i wouldn't be so sure on how to do it🙂
Great video. It should also be noted that there are many items inside the engine that can affect jetting/how your bike runs like crank seals and air leaks.
Absolutely! This is really just a video to help my customers have some clue what they’re doing. I plan to make a more in depth video about tuning.
If you have a crank seal leak you have a much bigger problem
It’s just awesome to see a visual to get a real idea of how too rich or lean looks and sounds instead of just showing people spark plug colors. Yes any air leak can lead you down a rabbit hole. Great video!
Great vid
Great info. It helped me get my carb running awesome.
Can you help on the cold start?
I pull the choke, but have a difficult time getting it atarted. Once started, it runs awesome
Like my stock Mikuni. Has great crisp tune.
I just got a YZ250 with a Lectron and it was constantly foiling plugs. I went a half turn lean and then it seemed to run ridiculously warm. I was also really skipping the clutch to get out of sand.
So I went 1/4 turn richer. Hopefully I finally got it.
In your next video like this can you show pictures of the spark plug coinciding with the tuned condition. I ask this because I fear I am running too lean and may cause damage
Thanks for this video
Hi brad.great video very informative good work.i got a older 38 h lectron series that I want to put on my 2017 yz 125.i have an apex head on it and use it for motorcross.have you got a baseline setting for what metering rod to use ?,what measurement to the tip of the rod from the base of the slide.and how many turns from fully closed should I have the power jet adjusting screw any information would be much appreciated.its worth mentioning that I live in the UK temperatures from as low as 0 degrees in winter and upto 25 degrees summer with 97 octane fuel mixed 40 to 1 with Castrol power one racing two stroke oil.many thanks neil
The metering rod I can tell you because it’s really an arbitrary number. It changes between batches of metering rods when they’re coming off the Grinder. As for the PJ, 3/4 turns out is the factory setting roughly. Never hurts to start Rich though 😜.
My kx250 is very close but needs a little adjustment. It fouls a plug about once a year and maybe sputters from time to time.
I definitely have to clear it out when in low rpm, especially after a long downhill decend. Now i just rip the throttle in neutral on my way down.
Looks to me like its rich. Which also makes sense because im at 4000+ ft on the stock jetting. I dont have a Lectron. Thinking about getting one, but at the very least jetting my carb properly.
best two stroke real time demo....
Just got a billetron. Cleaned up the blubber and spooge on the bottom end with a 1/4 turn leaner. Now, it’s flat / almost boggy in middle when hard on the gas. Question, do you always have to adjust the powerjet when you make meter rod adjustments? What would you do if you were me?
great video
Excellent video! How does Lectron determine what fuel ratio to use when they ship to customer's? If you wanted to mix different from the manufacturers suggestion can they accomodate you or are you on your own? Thanks
It really has a pretty small effect on tuning. 32:1 or 100:1 you lte probably within 1/4 turn on the metering rod to dial it in between the two,
I have a question my yz runs good doesn’t bog can idle all day with no issues however after a while of riding there is a little bit of oil around the plug on the head bike doesn’t smoke too crazg would you recommend going a little leaner on air fuel screw or adjust the other thing on the inside of the carb as I do have a lectron carb installed and I am running 32:1
You just talked me out of getting a smartcarb!! You saved me some money!! Se my issue is i live ay 5000 fet in the mtns and will ride anywhere from 4 to 55 hundred feet! And the track we have to ride at is at 800ft.. how will that workout for me..?.
In my experience, I make no adjustments whatsoever between sea level and 7000ft, if I’m going to be between 7k and 11k feet I’ll lean it out 1/4 turn on the metering rod. That’s it. Takes 2 minutes 😊
Just what the doctor ordered!!
Hey Brad, I just bought a 85SX and since it's my 1st 2t I'm not familiar with 2t sound, your video is really helping. However, I have a lot of difficulty to hit the sweet spot with tuning my Keihin. I know it's not a Lectron but I'd like to figure it out before buying something else. I have a lot of smoke at idle and while riding, and most of all I have spooge (a lot) coming out of the exhaust. I already lean it a bit with the pilot jet and the needle but I don't want to lean it too much. The bike was brand new when I got it and it has about 15h now. Is there something you would suggest me?
Nice video! Very informative, maybe you could give me a few tips to help me with my new billetron carb.
So the carb was meant for my yz125 and I decided to put it on my KTM 125sx 2015, and not matter what I do I can't get it to idle, no one seams to know what the rod measurement is for My KTM. Do you know what the measurements are for my other bike? Or what are some tips what I should try? I'd be happy for a little help, it seems to be endless right now to find the sweet spot! In the lower RPM it doest throttle well at all, sounds like it's too lean but smokes like nothing else I have tried to make it more lean and the sparkplug was pretty white. Maybe I'm over jumping that good point, honestly at this point I have adjusted it too much to know which way I should go now. THANK YOU :)
Just found this video after picking up a 2018 yz250x with the older style lectron, spark plug is a perfect tan after some full throttle chop tests but smokes abit after start up and bogs down when I whack open the throttle from idle just like in your lean demonstration, new to two strokes and was thinking it’s too rich but maybe I’m looking at too lean ?
Thanks for the video!
Must be too lean if that’s the case! Smoke is expected. It’s a 2 stroke burning oil and fuel! No smoke woukd be a concern. Tune based off of how the motor runs/feels/sounds. Smoke is a poor indicator. I just threw it in there as a last resort test hah
I have a 2021 yz250x with stock carb and 35 hours. Bike runs and idles flawless, has lots of power everywhere, but it smokes a bit even when warmed up, and has some oil out the exhaust. Should I worry? I run 32:1
Hey how far out did you have your power jet set on your H series with the YZ 250. Still not sure how to tune that part of the carb…
I just picked myself up a 2022yz250 monster edition after my 15:1 full tank brake in what ratio should i run 30:1 yamalube 2r?
One thing on my 04 rm250 lectron h series I noticed the idle will always drop low to the point it wants to stall, even if it’s set too lean. Also it won’t bog when wacking the throttle while putting around in second gear to wide open, but it will bog when giving it lots of throttle in mid air? I found that really weird and really sketchy. So I richened it and now it doesn’t do that, but it won’t hold and idle hardly at all.
if i dont have the carb adjustment tool can i just use like needle nose pilers
Finally found your channel what happen all the video i use to watch is not there anymore berad
They’re on BeRAD 2
I have a 2021 gasgas mc125 can the mukuni carb be tuned to run like that?
300xc with h series, just started bogging off and on after it ran flawlessly for 20-30 hours. Only thing I have ever done to the carb was 1/2 turn richer after first ride. Plug looks light brown on tip but black on the threads.
Got a 250sx here, after 18hours it started then stalled and wouldn't want to go. Spark was black and from the feeling of the bike compared to his video I'm sure it is a bit on the rich side. Got a new spark in and started on the first kick.
Is that a 36 or 38 carb? And why?
Thank you for being the only youtuber reviewing an aftermarket carb on a 125. I've been struggling with my 06 cr125. Besides a full rebuild, I've been wanting a smart carb for over a year now. . .
Any recommendations for tuning a 2022 YZ125X Mikuni carb? Mid and top end seem good, low and idle always seem a little off and boggy, and load up after 30 seconds or so of idling.
Cool vid, I can hardly wait to jet my buddy's bike too lean when he's not looking.
🤣🤣🤣
So that you can bog he's bike for the holeshot 😊
I installed a lectron H series on my YZ125 with a Athena kit 144 boyensen rad valves and full fmf exhaust and she’s bogging I need to rich her up or lean ?
Brother, great video.
I'm looking for your input on my issue. My (Yz250x w/ H series lectron) bike rips, but has surging upon let off. Throttle is snappy, no bogging but Deceleration is interrupted by spurts of fuel it seems. Both audibly heard, and felt in the seat. Potentially a bit rich, but what do you think?
Please and thanks
Sincerely Case.

Where do I get a lectron carb and skid plate for a 2023 yz 125x
Love my Smartcarb
I bought a lectron carb last year for a yz250 with esr325 kit. Cant ever seem to get it right. I adjust it to lean and it starts decent. Then it runs lean like in the video. I adjust it a 1/4 turn rich and it runs great but a pain to start. I dont know what to do hopefully you have some advice. On 10-20 hours on engine and has good compression. Was a full rebuild and checked crank seal. Everything is check 3 to 4 times over. Just a pain to start... have to slow kick it a 7 times and hopefully a hard kick or 2 will start it. I put the old carb on and starts right up but that has a crack on the housing
Making the carb richer 1/4 turn should only make it easier to start. Be sure you’re using the choke in any case to cold start!
Would you recommend an electron carb for a YZ250 street legal dual sport build? With longer than average higher RPM cruising? Richer setting? Thanks
Anyone happen to know how much the metering rod needs to be screwed out for a 18 TE300 on a lectron?
Can I ask what is the function of the RAD Valve?
That's it I'm buying lectron carb very impressed
Be sure to go through my website! I’ve got them in stock.
Any discount code I could use 😍😍
@@Midnightpurpler34 yup! Use code “youtube” for free domestic standard shipping.
Oh sureeeeeee I finally broke down and bought one last year and while I love it, it kinda peeves me that the choke is on the right. Now it’s on the left side where it should be!?🥴
Nice video! Do you have any comments on the gas mileage? Does it burn more or less or same compared to a well jetted Keihin? Thanks
Theoretically any carb tuned properly should burn the same amount of fuel. A lot of people claim that the lectron is much more fuel efficient. While I also notice this effect, I think a lot of it is due to its resistance to spilling fuel from bowl overflow and venting. That in combination with being not overly rich like may factory carbs will certainly provide MUCH better fuel mileage. For instance I’ve gone 70 miles on my stock 2gal yz250 tank without needing reserve. Pretty darn good!
I'm not Brad but I'll answer this one. The difference is staggering. I got a Lectron for my '94 CR125. I felt my Keihin was jetted well and would joke that I could watch the gas level fall down the side of the tank as I rode! Even if running pump gas (don't), it will pay for itself in one season.
Might be a stupid question but im new to two strokes.
I have a Lectron carb on my TC 250 and I have noticed there is too much fuel entering the motor when I turn the gas on, this is causing the spark plug to become wet with gas.
1. Do I need to adjust the tension cable for the throttle adjust the entering rod to stop excess fuel going into the motor?
2. Doe the metering rod require that black tool you are using to adjust the metering rod?
Thanks!
Put one I ordered from you on my bike and the first day was awesome, after that I got 100yds from camp and it acts like it's out of gas. Any suggestions? I just wanna ride. ='(
Literally the best guide for identifying rich vs lean on the internet.
How much did u turn the rod on the video to show from rich to just right? Mine is slightly to rich. Just wondering how much to lean it out abit
I just installed a billetron on a 2000 yz250. It won’t start. Not sure where to start
When its to lean the spark plug is white right?
When I first got my Pro I messed with the idle screw and forgot how much I turned it out. Is there a way to reset it? Like turn all the way in and two turns out?
