okay jeff im liking this style of video
Just got my first ktm85 super excited to ride it!!!!!!
Do you shift with clutch, or no clutch. Great vid❤❤
Depends on the situation! If I'm accelerating out of a turn, I use the clutch to speed-shift. If I'm up-shifting in the air, I typically don't use the clutch. Downshifting doesn't really require the clutch since you're off throttle anyway
@@JeffWalker84 ok cool thanks

detonation 😦😧
It would be super cool if you did a lap time comparison between your 450 and the 250 two stroke! Love the videos 🔥
2 strokes love a little Leaded fuel maybe 50/50 with C12 or just some leaded 110
Agree c12 mixes great with pump gas. Never liked vp red or sunoco 110 doesn't like to mix. It doesn't let the fuel get a low enough flash point
@@denniswilder3014 it would clean up that pinging and detonation
Agreed, I use Torco 99 for both my bikes and its oxygenated so it has a little bit more power and I found it’s easier to tune and it’s consistent
@@denniswilder3014 I run straight sunoco standard (leaded 110) mine with a high comp head lectron v force 4r and dep pipe it doesn't like to be mixed with any other octane. I tried with ethenol free 92 mixing 5050 and it sounded like rocks getting off the throttle. Tried straight 110 and the sound was gone without touching anything els
@@DonieK519 try cutting it with c12. I tried everything. I built a few drag racing snowmobiles and ran stock sleds also. And raced moto in the off season. And i found mixing 87 with c12 brought the flash point down a bit and was very crisp. But i dod have alot of compression in my bikes
You were RAILING those corners my guy!
way too lean on idle, early throttle metering rod setting.
This setting effects the entire curve - get it right first.
can you plz do a video on the powervalve? explain the diffrence if fully tight or lose and the springs :D
Babe wake up Jeff posted another video
when you started it up I thought dang its really lean at idle.
I bought a new Smart Carb for my 1996 KX250 and I swear it's a gift from the gods. Cold, hot, whatever, it starts and idles like a dream.
Better off running the top end a little on the fat side it'll preserve the engine for eternity. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Seems like a lot of the bikes I see with lectrons sound terrible, usually lean. I got the mikuni to work pretty good on my 250 but switched to a kehien 38 after around 300 hours and it’s fricken dialed now with an rktek head.
yeah im not sold on them. From my experience its worse than a well jetted stock carb, but WAY better than a poorly setup stocker and easier to adjust.
More top end power may require lowering compression. I am curious the difference between your current setup vs a stock 250. If I remember correctly you have a high compression insert.
We can always do some custom inserts and dyno tuning to find what’s best.
Sounds much better with the adjustments. Thanks again for the representation. Need to get Cale setup
So lean it was signing off early, should be pulling much longer and harder up top. I personally dont think any lectron or smartcarb can compare with a well tuned traditional style carb. Air striker with a STIC and bam ya got the best all around combo for most power and best running possible.
I have a 2017 Husq TX 300 with a Lectron. The best jetted bike I have ever seen. Took me a couple of test sessions to get it perfect. I can go walking speed in 5th gear and slam the throttle wide open and all it does is pull. Never have to touch it from 30-110F and 0-10k' elevation. It's a little concerning you got it and it was so far off from the factory.
My son has a 2019 KTM 150sx with the Lectron. We run 50/50 C12 /93 pump fuel 32:1 Motule 800.Runs really crisp and clean with zero spooge. Nice bike and great job as always
I just heard the ending of the vid. If you were lean on the bottom from factory settings, then it's probable that your also lean on the top? Just sayin. I know I said sound is not the easiest way to jet a carb, but I watched the vid fully, and I think it's still a bit lean on top. I am not hearing the typical sound when it's at higher Rpm's in higher gears, it doesn't have that grunt sound to me. Only trying to help, but I could be wrong? Curious what you find but remember the rule of richening it up until it bogs, and then back it down and you will find the sweet spot. You just have to find out how much is needed to take out of it once it bogs. 1/8th to 1/4qtr I would presume. Good luck!
@jeff walker your running far to LEAN that not way to adjust the carb buddy I was the exactly same I have billetron pro 38 with excelarator rod on my ktm 150 2018 lectrons base setting from factory was same for me was quite abit off sett the carb back to factory settings incl rod, then adjust your power jet to 1 full turn out then turn your metering rod richer by 1/4 turn at time untill you have nice consistent low idle that’s you basically set idle with the metering rod to lean high idle to rich to low set it with the rod fist and will run as it should Maybee slight adjustment on torque this way you won’t every need to touch it again so happy with mine turned the bike into a machine
Idk if it’s the fmf or the 250 2 strokes from back then or what but it dont sound like it’s running the smoothest sounds rough but idk🤷♂️❤️
In my understanding, you want to keep going richer until it bogs, (Speaking only about the top end) then go leaner 2 or maybe even 1 because of the 1/4 turns. That rule works for all carbs usually, but it applies to jets not necessarily turns, but I'm sure you could trial and error it, to find out how it works on that carb. Maybe going back 1/8 turn once it bogs. I'd try that, and see how it runs. If it never bogs again that day, that is the ticket for the top end screw. You will feel increases until that bog comes, but when its dead-on, it will feel like you gained 10hp. Sound alone is hard to determine jetting unless it's way off, but if you ran it wide open in 5th gear on a newish plug, then shut off the engine, coasting to a stop and pull the plug after it cools off, you will see the truth clearly if it's lean or at all rich. Lean will be white ash or deposits, rich will be dark colored and will be even wet from too much fuel. I really like those carbs, and am looking into getting one for an ATV I have. Nice job on the riding! That always looks like a fun track for practicing berms wfo. Appreciate the vids!
If you haven’t already remember handguards for Ironman I recommend Cycra Pro-Bend or Acerbis X-Facotry wrap arounds but it is all personal preference
definitelyyyy needs to get rid of that pump gas, it’s always the oldest at the gas station too compared to like 87, that 2 stroke needs atleast VP c9
Not great conditions for a smoker 4 sure ..love me some 2 stroke but a 450 is alot faster in that kinda dirt
Im begging you please do supercross, especially Arlington so i can get an autograph.
The power valve adjuster makes a big change also play with that a bit 👍
Great video, keep them coming.
Call lectron and ask for the new xcelerator rod, makes a big difference
Should have gotten a smartcarb
That's what I was thinking
Richen the metering rod ! Not just the screws .
should get a get ecu or vertex ecu and some race gas
Herlings his number :-)
T2 will solve a lot of issues !
what do you mean when you say detonating? im trying to tune my Lectron but im having trouble with the terms they are using online lol
Lectron describes it pretty well when they say it sounds like “marbles in the top end”. It’s a quick “crackle” sound while you’re on the throttle
Jeff moves torque jet a half turn and starts BARKIN!
yoooo Bio Major Chem Minor gang!
The key to stop detonation is Increased Octane. Mix 50/50 VP 110 with 93 pump gas. Problem solved.
95 octane or more , but no more than 100 . Richen it up ! Fuel rich will give you way more torque .
To obtain that 95 octane, you can use VP "Octanium" 4 oz. in 2 gallons pump fuel.
Fuel lean has no power and heats up the piston and cylinder.
...
....
Ktm junk
Just got mine for my 250sx doing the same adjustments now. Also lectron has really good customer support. Thanks Jeff.
With a 93 head your running to close to detonation from the fuel.93 pump isn't always 93 pump.get 5 gallons of vpc12.mix 3 gallons of 87 octane and 2gallons of c12.gets you to about 95 octane and the led will help with detonation even more
You only need to jet your bike once! its not like it changes over time get it right and you should know what too change based on where you are riding. If it is colder go up. ,higher elevation go down. In Michigan I get away with only air screw adjustments spring through fall, and just up 1 pilot and 2 main in the winter. we ride single track all year up here Just cardboard over one radiator.
LET the smokers run in the 250 class against the 4 strokes , and we will see who would trade engines , 250 two strokes are easy to ride when running properly.
I have a 19 Husky TC 250 with the Billetron 38. Took some fine tuning to get rid of my bog when landing off big jumps (scary), but now it runs like a crisp potato chip. I run 110 50/50 with 93. The key upgrade for me was the PC set up with the Wiseco elite performance piston. I have always run the regular but this time I splurged and it is 100% worth it. Along with Hinson plates. My bike runs like a raped ape. Soo crisp and you better hold on when she hooks up cuz it revs to the moon!!
what do you use to clean your gear/ bike?
Mr Clean antibacterial soap
Awesome video mate.. i have pretty much the same bike but bone stock and i feel like it wants to rip my arms out everytime i touch the throttle haha. Im obv a beginner, nonetheless this video showed me very intesnily how big skill gaps can be haha.
Be careful with the billetron 38 pro i dont know whats wrong with it but the float gets stuck on its own for some odd reason and thats incredibly dangerous when your racing on a track and the bowl has no fuel in it going up a face of the jump and the bike dies. Never had a single issue with the regular billetron and thats from a bike with a stupid, useless sensor that serves no purpose and no theirs no performance issue when the sensor is unplugged either.
Mate of mine had one of those carbs on his 125, could not get it to run right at all🥲 250 sound sweet man!🤟🏼
2 strokes also have naturally more compression too so you may have to use C12 or some other leaded fuel to help with detonating. I use Torco 99 in my 2T bikes
See you at Ironman! Funny that you post this last weekend I was trying to get my lectron pro dialed on my yz300
you are freaking tall, im 1.80 and barely touch on a te 300
Goddamn, I wish I could shred a track like that, amazing riding and nice bike too
Ayyyy
Awesome video Jeff DITD out east is gonna be sick
For more pull have you tried going up a tooth on the rear sprocket?
did you ever find your stolen cr250??
wowzer Jeff that bike looks great. good work bud!
we looked for you at Unadilla, were you there?
Need red plastics on the 2 Ktm now to match the race bike!
i would like to see you ride some trails with that bad boy! ☺️
were is the rest of van build cmon been a month please
7:14 my voice - I should definitely call her
I use the Boyesen power reeds and Float Bowl
glad to see you on the 2 smoke again!
I LOVE my electron on my yz
2 stroke content yasssssssssssss boiiii
Jeeeeeeeeeffffffff🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Bad day for white haha
Awesome Content, watching you all the way from South Africa Cape Town #44
Appreciate it Michael! I parked next to South Africans Dalton Venter and Stav Orland at a few rounds this year, and they were awesome dudes!
Are you going to go back to monster mountain Mx soon!
It's definitely on the bucket list for places to visit this winter!
0:42 dont lose your gopro this time 😂😂
still so upset about that hahah
Hahahaha I am literally a scientist 😂😂😂
Bio major and chem minor. That's some real nerd shit. I'm just a dumbass civil engineering major. Chemistry is way over my head.
Ditch the pump fuel and go with some 100 octane !! Pump gas on a high compression head not a good combination!!
I have the stock compression dome inserted in the phat head!
@@JeffWalker84 right on man the race fuel is still a better choice for the two strokes for sure!! Can’t wait to see the race footage!!
3:19 I should call her
😂
JEFFFFFFFFFFFF❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
NATEEEEEE
What does it mean when you talk about the bike detonating?
Pre-detonation. The fuel mixture exploding way too soon before TDC in the engine. On a two stroke, being really lean makes them hot, and then the heat can explode the fuel too early. We can't really hear it in the video, but in real life it sounds like a horrible little crunch crunch noise that isn't coming from the pipe. Too much detonating can toast the rod bearings and even blow up pistons!
@@bennyb.1742 ok thank you.
Glad you’re out there smokin!! I’ve got a 19 as well and based on how yours is sounding it seems like it lacks on top quite a bit. I’m still running the mikuni and going with the JD jet kit and the JD jet block gasket it’s super dialed 93 pump gas. Other recommendation would be a pc r304 which will help a little on top those long fmf power core pipes choke the bike out quite a bit. I’ve got an extra r304 off my 19 if you want to try!
Appreciate the info man! Cale runs the PC 304 and mentioned that his has a bit more top end, so that's consistent with what you said. I'm now partnered with HGS, and I think I'll be switching over to their exhaust on the 2 stroke. Any experience with that system?
@JeffWalker84 I am very curious to see how that system is. I found them when I was selling at a powersports dealership, but mostly on road bikes. Curious how their 2 smoke set up is.
@@JeffWalker84 I haven’t personally but have heard good things. Very similar set up to what pc has going on with there’s so I’m sure it will be a good fit for what you’re after for sure! Also for the gncc you have planned coming up a 19-22 big tank from an xc 300/250 will fit right on that so if you know someone with one steal there tank for the weekend 😝 also play around with that power valve test the springs out etc. makes a massive difference
@@JeffWalker84hgs is the best pipe across the board for gains
@@JeffWalker84 For what its worth, on my YZ125 with a +2/+2 bore and stroke (square 144 setup) the HGS system was by far the best overall out of stock, FMF, and PC. Best bottom was HGS chamber with PC 304. Weirdly, best top was HGS silencer with stock chamber but only by a little over full HGS. They really popular in the MX3 scene in Europe but it was an absolute bear for me to get sent over here.
I need to learn how to hear "pinging"
Super difficult to hear without headphones on. Sounds like loose metal clacking around in the top end
to me it kind of sounds like a half pulled tear off fluttering against your helmet.
@@blubug768 I had a half pulled tear off slapping my helmet at like 90mph in a flat track race and I thought the engine was blowing up! The tear off systems for full faces kinda suck.
god that is the longest exhaust i have ever seen XD
Supposed to help with top-end performance which the KTM notoriously lacks, but yeah it definitely looks a little funny😂
@@JeffWalker84 oh that makes sense. would a shorter pipe help with bottom end then? i dont even know the differences
Thats what she said
@@DizzleMX32 I think longer silencer is supposed to help bottom end. After I changed my silencer wool I definitely noticed a bit more bottom end
That's often true on a 4-stroke, but for some reason a longer silencer is supposed to give more top end on a 2-stroke. No idea why! I'm a 2-stroke newbie, but the general consensus on the internet is that longer=more top end
