    There's a lot of lesser known white wine styles throughout Europe that often can be just as spectacular as a chardonnay but much more affordable. Other examples i'd encourage anyone to try are: vermentino from Sardinia, verdeca from Puglia, assyrtiko from Santorini/Greek islands, picpoul de Pinet from southern France, viogner also from France, verdicchio from central Italy... All less famous than your sauvignons and chardonnays but can be incredible wines for amazing value

      Great recommendations, especially the Sardinian Vermentino's. I'll add North Italian dry moscato giallo or Goldmuskateller if it's from the Südtirol area. And German Spätlese trocken, like a Grauburgunder or Sylvaner.
