I was fortunate enough to be invited to a dinner there in the courtyard dining room two weekends ago! We were a table of nine, and we ordered five bottles, which we left up to the somm to pair for us. She produced the following: Modicum Blanc de Blancs, "Schramsberg Vineyards," Extra Brut, North Coast 2018; Karthauserhof Reisling, "Eitelsbacher Schieferkristall," Trocken, Mosel 2019; Domaine de Comtes Lafon Mersault, "Clos de La Barre," 1er Cru, Burgundy 2019; Produtrori del Barbaresco Barbaresco, "Muncagota," Piedmont 2016; Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain 1988. Needless to say, these wines (and the meal! and the service!) were beyond spectacular; it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I also fist-bumped Thomas FRIGGIN Keller!!! 😭
@@ajitkirpekar4251 It was lovely and had aged very well! I only wish I had tried it before the Nebbiolo because the Muncagota was my favorite of the evening; it rendered the Dunn kind of lackluster, unfortunately. It should also be noted that the wine prices are inflated around 400% over retail. A $300 bottle of 1988 Dunn was marked up to $1200. Shocking when the bill comes around, but I still got to try all of that wine for around $250 in the end. It was definitely worth it for the experience ☺️
@@lesliemoo i learned the painful lesson when I brought a spring mountain cab to single thread, only to see the corkage fee was more than the bottle itself. Thanks for the insights!
@@lesliemoo OMG, you weren't kidding. A 1992 screaming Eagle, which costs 9-12k online is 50k at the French Laundry. Its so hard to fathom that they can get away with that kind of markup.
Damm, this is really a genius idea to go through fine dining restaurant's wine list. I always enjoy checking restaurant's wine list too lol. Looking forward to more video's like this :>
Im glad you went for Clos Ste. Hune. That was honestly the first thing that jumped out at me when I went through their wine list. Amazing the depth in the vertical.
A regional favorite is The Angus Barn in Raleigh. We toured their cellar after dinner on an especially quiet night there during a winter storm. I may never again see as many bottles of different DRC vintages.
Check out Toppers at the Wauwinet on Nantucket. Only open during the summer months, not easy to get to, and yet they have a 25,000 bottle cellar with DRC are retail prices.
Hey, just discovered your channel. This was so much fun. But 70 pages is child’s play. You need to take a week off and deep dive the 200+ pages that is Bern’s Steakhouse’s wine menu. We are talking 1970’s Lirac for $27. They have some cool and fun stuff that I would love to see your take on!
I went to add Bern’s to my list and saw it was already on there! Should be tackling that soon. I also took a look at 11 Madison’s 212 page list on the channel!
Very interesting! I would agree I prefer acid-forward wines, but that aligns with a preference for new-world and well-aged wines. Even more importantly, I would say wines with age (and capacity to age) start with high enough acid. As an aside, I love your estimates of my location, but I will say both statements are incorrect! Let me know what you think after the next video……
Recent follower. Love this format of videos! Very educational :)
That $500 under budget almost makes up for sitting under the tree! Lol. Favorite video yet!
Hilarious video! Loved it!

Check out Del Frisco NYC, Eleven Madison Park and Blue Hill at Stone Barns

gangster champagne 😂
fucking exceptional work here
What website were you using to give info on the details of the vintages in the different regions?
Wine Spectator!
Geez, it wasn't that long ago it was 300 to book at FL. That's almost 100 percent inflation.

Just uploaded the Inn at Little Washington - Thank you for the suggestion!
THOSE GODDAMN TINDER DATES AND THEIR MABEC
I know restaurants make big money on wine and beverages but 5X retail seems excessive……but we are talking
French Laundry
Honestly their markups are so insane, that I'd rather pay corkage and bring my own bottle!
My guess from your List you like acidic leaning wine and live on the East Coast but grew up in California.
