This is why I always have said the XC90 needed the V8 standard. Even the T6 would struggle at times. The XC90 is such a heavy tank and you can see that the power of the V8 allowed the haldex 3 to really operate at its peak.
It has always felt pretty capable. Granted, I’ve never really pushed the limits of the car and don’t intend to. It is quite a heavy car and feels very solid. The V8 engine does seem to help the Haldex 3 system feel more robust
Haldex 3 is proactive whereas Haldex 2 is reactive. This is why Haldex 3 is superior and is more reliable because it is already prepared for the loss of traction
Agreed. Haldex 3 was the first proactive system, but Haldex 4 is better. Sadly they didn’t offer Haldex 5 on the P2 XC90 as it was retired in 2014 and kept the earlier Haldex 4 system found on MY09-14 XC90s
Your V90CC would probably chair better due to Volvo’s addition of better traction control software for Haldex 4 and 5. I don’t have brake-based torque vectoring with the Haldex 3 system, though the XC90 has better approach, departure, and break-over angles as well as more ground clearance.
@@theKnightDesign engine is a Yamaha v8 and is super reliable so the transmission will go before the engine and the awd system is great that was with a wheel on each side in the air which most suvs will struggle with but it’s a tank in even 2 feet of snow or any low traction situations
I love this V8 but I'm not impressed by the offroad capabilities of this XC90... I owned a Range Rover 1986 (from 1986 to 1996) and I was able to climb incredible steep slopes with the automatic gearbox (4 speed ZF) and the low range engaged. Tyres were the ordinary M+S (Mud and Snow) fitted on commercial vans.
The yamaha v8 is durable but, extremely expensive to repair. Example, $3500 for a starter replacement. Other repairs require the removal of the motor. The shop i use is independent, but the mechanics are volvo trained , they will not work on the V8.
Guess it depends. I had a new genuine starter fitted to my V8 and it was $700au plus fitting. Had the plugs and rocker gaskets done at the same time. I did a fuel pressure regulator, cost me $40 for a oem one. So I think you may be getting ripped off

its not so heavy actually, far from a tank. About 400-500kg more than a golf 4. But a tank is about 60 tons lol.
@@redpepper007 smart man..
T6 is actually stronger than v8. Ith has less hp (304 vs 315) but acceleration times and overal dynamic is better in t6.

@@theKnightDesign Yeah I do agree Haldex 5 would be great on my R if I could do it. Dreading fluid, filter, and pump change on the ol Haldex 3.
@@clonetrooper576 it’s horrendous to do on the XC90s.
@@theKnightDesign Ill bet. But at least the xc90 is higher in the air. The R is so low i really want a lift
What color is that on the Volvo?
Yokohama Geolandar AT, goes from struggle to easy
how this isnt diff lock?
what wheels are those? they're super good looking
never mind, just saw your replies on another video. thanks!
Hah, okay, cool! But just in case, they’re 20” TSW Rivages.
I wonder how my V90CC would fair going through this spot. Seemed like a lot of wheel spin on the XC90.

with those wheels you gonna climb mountain everrest
Scared to damage them, I’d probably put some off-road KO2s on my Atlantis rims
Does 2007 2.4 d5 xc90 has haldex 3? How can we check? Nice test btw thanks 😊
I believe it does, yes. 03-05 had Haldex 2, 2006-2008 had Halex 3, and 09-14 had Haldex 4, but the 05+ V8s had Haldex 3 or 4.
@@theKnightDesign thanks for your reply 😊
Великолепно!!!
Woah! Kinda this car is super powerfull! ❤
Nice car, but damn that awd system struggles. How's the reliability with the v8?
It does pretty well considering it’s not a full-time AWD system. The V8 is proving to be very reliable and does decently well on gasoline.
Also those don't seem like super duper great offroad tires. A solid tire upgrade would help a lot

Not sure if I should be impressed cause my lifted 01 v70xc can do this with Visco.
Some all terrain tires would do you much better buddy

That's actually really bad 4wd.. My back wheel driven car would even climb that better
Volvo has the worst 4WD among cars. O, no! The worst 4WD has Nissan. Volvo has the second worst 4WD since the end
