- My first Trackday at Goodwood in the Mini. Here are a few flying laps. For the day I had my track wheels (17" Pro Race 1.2) wrapped in Nankang NS2-R medium compound rubber. Carbotech XP8's were in the 8 pot K-Sports for stopping power. Excuse the exhaust rattle at the start as I managed to melt a centre exhaust mount!

Nice to see you kept the charger on it. Good set up good driving. Love my 53
Just bought a 240hp cooper S and this has just made me very excited to get on some trackdays this summer! :)
CRG 92 You should try Goodwood as Mini’s are epic around there
Wow the R53 is a brilliant blank canvas and you have painted well sir.
It's a custom wrap from Monsterwraps in Southampton :)
Shit's so aggressive and violent, jesus christ. Reminds me of that meme where there's a big dog and you tell it to sit and it says "no, you sit" lol.
Sick car, sick driving. Viva la r53
Nice drive, fantastic driver, excellent mini.
Fast shifts, good driving line, proper job mate !
Wow! That is some great driving bud 👏🏻
3 weeks into my R53 , toy project car. It’s only 200 hp for now. Looking forward to track days also. Looks like a hole heap of fun. Nice driving dude.
great drive and a great sense of speed from this setup
This is awesome. This is my goals in 2024/2025, I have a 2006 cooper s modified and remapped to 220bhp currently.
awesome specs and driver skills
what a capable little rocket holy balls
Currently for sale as well. 12yrs owning it & it’s going 😢
Nice! Looks like a sweet set up........
this is a nice r53
Smooth with butter and a wee touch of oot ma road 👍
February this year i bought a mini cooper S supercharger R53, the car is in mint condition, everything original, electric blue with the mini lite style rims, i intend getting it all tuned up etc to about 250bhp, and leave all the interior and exterior stock original, its already debadged so it will be a complete sleeper.
Nice drive!
Fuck yeah this mini is awesome
Valley Kid cheers dude
Great driving and car
The thumper head totally changes the sound of the engine! It’s all I’ve left to do to mine, but it’s a fair chunk of cash..
James Glen Car Sales get the inlet ported & matched to it at the same time 👍🏾
Great setup and spec list, Air intakte Sound is awesome! 👍🏻
Mc Piet Thanks
This is awesome. Mines 214 at the wheels and that seems bonkers enough. Only had it a few days and have a few jobs I need to do to get it track ready. First off is making it not so effing loud!
Nick Horne leave the cat in & ensure it's resonated. Should be no problem on most tracks. Bedfords noise limits are pathetic so even then it comes close to triggering it there. Especially if more than one car go through the db trap at the same time
sweet video man!!
James Hastings cheers fella 👍🏾
Cool video..but where is the Supercharger whine? My modded R53 (230 HP) squeals like a pig ;) (And loves to eat up STI's)
Cody Payne it’s there but there was only one mike mounted for this vid & it was near the exhaust tips
I have a cai, a catback, and a 15% pulley, the whine is louder than the exhaust lol
Crank or whp and what mods did it take you to get 230? I'm trying to get an idea of what hp my car has. It has CAI, catback, and 15% pulley.
That thing is fast fast
Outstanding vid btw
I'm surprised they allow you to run with the windows up.
Sounds cool and fast. what did that little shopping trip cost. car and upgrades? got to be way up there £££ bet it's fun 😁😁😁😉
Jamie gregs Bought it back in 2008 & it’s gradually gone from a daily to a pretty much ‘track only’ car. It’s had a few quid thrown at it 😉
greatttttttttttttttttttttttttt video perfect.
Hi that's Amazing mini cooper r53 🤩 How much money 💰Did you spend On your super Mini👌🚙🏁🏆📣
Wicked!
I don't get it, did you swapp the compressor by a turbo?
If so, it s because your gain of bhp is higher with turbo than the compressor?
Thx in advance.
Nb: your r53 is coming straight from the hell, perf look from another planet.
Tom no still running a supercharger but with a 17% pulley & various other mods 👍🏾
@@MAFFA76 ah thx, i could not hear the "blender sound". Keep on posting new videos if u can. Cheers
Tom the microphone is by the exhaust so no chance of hearing the whine 😉
What can the standard block take bhp wise?
Depends really. Most people will easily run 210-220 with basic mods but then some run bigger power on an OEM block. If you’re going to consistently have it near the redline on track though you might want to consider forging
@@MAFFA76 OK thankyou dude
Hi Matt! There is too much CAI on the market. Which one would you recommend?
Oli at Orranje always sees me right. Their stealth CAE is good if you want to keep the OEM look ( orranje.co.uk/product/orranje-stealth-cold-air-intake-kit ) or is you want something a bit more like the M7 I see a number of people running the Airtec now ( orranje.co.uk/product/airtec-mini-cooper-s-r53-motorsport-air-intake-induction-kit )
I just traded my 90 Miata for an 06 Cooper S checkmate, running some healthy mods, it is a hoot!
You and me both
@@lugia021 did you really just trade a Miata for an R53? It has been one year to the for day for me today! R53 drove across the country and is still running great, now running the same 15" wheels I had on my Miata, lol (Sparco FF-1)
Hey man. Saw you at mini in the park yesterday. Car looks fantastic bro.
Quick question where did you get the ksport brakes they look ace i would like to buy some. Cheers
Joe Miller Cheers Bud. Speak to Oli at Orranje. He'll sort you out. Mine are the 330's which are tight under 17's
Where did you get the gauges I couldn't find them anywhere for mine nice build 🙂
Fido HD gauges I searched eBay for. They were bought new & the pod to hold them is oem from BMW
Hi. what is your geometry?
Sussex Road & Race in Littlehampton set it up 👍🏾
@@MAFFA76 so nothing got it 18h30min away from home 😏
I have a 05 bone stock with 90,000 miles. I just did a new head and valves. Do you have a good advice as far as the initial must have upgrade to make the mini a better all around track car I know I can do a pulley and intake and a tune but I’m more curious into the suspension set up without going to the extreme.
Very Nice... Doing work to mine in NZ....
Clayton Price Thanks
what mods would you do to a 1st gen mini one
The 1st Gen Mini one is effectively a detuned Cooper so getting power out of it up to 115-120bhp is relatively easy with something as simple as a map. You could take it to somewhere like 1320 but simple plug & play maps will do the job. Maybe filter, exhaust...but the power gains on a Mini One are minimal once you apply a map. That is unless you want the noise. I'd personally go for handling/braking mods. JCW brake upgrade will look good & serve you better & a nice set of BC coilovers will work well. If you're on a budget then even a set of AP Coilovers are way better than the stock setup.
thanks
Great video! How much was it roughly to forge your engine? I have 225whp and want to do more track days without the stress of it going bang. Also does you exhaust have silencer on it? What was good woods DB lol for the track day.
walsheian I believe Goodwood is 98db static & 96db drive by at 3 points around the circuit. On track I run a Janspeed manifold & a resonated Milltek with a flanged cat fitted. The cat is the most vital part for bringing the db's down. Off track I just remove the cat & it sounds so much better. You'll notice quite a bit of rattling at the start but that's just coz I melted a cheap exhaust mount that was fitted..."buy cheap buy twice!"
Forging the engine happened when I blew up engine no.4 lol. And even doing that is no guarantee as the latest engine just spun a bearing! This time it's been to a Mini Challenge engine builder who said he was less than impressed with my last build so hopefully the change in builder will mean more reliability. That's the thing that once it's built/mapped you have to put a lot of trust in the internals being right.
Fingers crossed they are this time. Price wise I've no idea as the last build came with a lot of upgrades but if you total up maybe £600 on pistons & the same on rods. Then you've seals, bearings & you may as well renew the oil pump, water pump, timing chain etc... plus oil, coolant, labour etc... & your crank may need work, block may need work & head may need a skim etc... it all ads up. I'd budget for around £3k
rip ford focus
Looks like you had some schooling from Alan Prost in Lap Of The Gods ....car needs more power though
Kinell!
how did those tires hold up? ive ran 3 sets of the NS-20 Nankangs for my daily and street cars and love the grip so i can only imagine how well a track tire does.
Varg Sutton 5 trackdays & still going strong 👍🏾 Loads of grip when up to temp
Looks so dialed in. Not fighting the steering wheel
Would these upgrades work for my 2015 Cooper S
Some of the mods would like the suspension etc... as BC do the ER coilover for various models. This is a 2002 so is supercharged & a lot of the mods won't be the same as you wont have the intercooler. If you want some sound advice on what mods would work on your car I'd speak to someone like Kevin from Sussex Road & Race. If you're looking for parts alone i'd probably go to Oli from Oranjje in the first instance for advice
Hi! What are the specs of your camshaft?
www.catcams.com/products/camshafts/datasheet.aspx?ENGINE_id=300&CAMSETUP_id=1775&Language=english
@@MAFFA76 Thanks Matt. I have ordered a 250 400 from Newman cams. I did not dare to take the 272 400 😊. I hope I will not be deceived... I will couple it with a 500cc injectors
Hello Matt! I need your advice. What would you buy first? M7 air induction or Janspeed Manifold with Tomcat? Or the Thumper TPR?
To be honest if it’s something quick then the induction & there are plenty out there. I got the M7 way back in 2009 so there are others now. If you’re replacing the cam & you’re thinking BVH then you may as well do them both are the same time to save on the labour but if it was me I’d gather the various parts you need & do it all at once so you only need the 1 remap. Smaller pulley, cam & map & you’re looking at 210-220bhp. Everything else gets more expensive to find another 50!
@@MAFFA76 I have already a 17 KAVS pulley, a bigger intercooler, KN air filter in the oem air box and a Newcam 250/400 built in without remap. The 500 cc injectors won't work well without a remap that is why I am thinking to purchase a Vi-pec G4 in order to be able to adapt the mapping according to the performance parts I got 😊.
What have you done!? Absolute monster! I thought my 190hp R53 was quick! Haha! Hoping for 220 overall. this on stock internals still?
BoxallBoy1 spec list at the time is in the description. It’s changed a bit since then but still similar power & is on fully forged internals 👍🏾
I have mine dyno'd 217 whp but on track when i run 96 octane and nice and hot should be around 225whp ~260BHP. Stock internals and Stock head but a lot of other work.
quick list:
JCW Smoothed Supercharger
15% pulley
dampener
racing headers (with cat) + straight pipe
big cam
450 injectors
tuned for 96 octane
custom intake
colder plugs
hi bro, will there be higher maintenance to have such hp?
Depends on how much it’s driven on the road, track etc... regular oil changes are recommended if tracking & the forged engine burnt more oil. Had race brake fluid so that barely needed changing
@@MAFFA76 hey bro. its me again curious that what gauges do u have when the car been tuned like urs? cause i only into gauges doest like those digital one.
@@lunlun2930 boost & AFR from a wideband & also a scangauge II for extra info
The engine has been reliable witj this kind of power? What fuel economy are you getting now?
Lorenzo Clara it’s had its issues but it’s reliable now 👍🏾. It doesn’t get out much, mainly the track so fuel economy isn’t top of the list 😂
Not bad
Senna or Prost ? Prost
Hammer👍👍👍😂😂
