You make some incredibly helpful videos. I live hundreds of miles away, but I can guarantee if you served my area I would hire you regardless of price. Thank you very much
Congrats 🎉 on the 100,000 subs, it's the least we can do, for all your help and advice!!
Thank You!
To a Great Guy...100K + awesome.....
I had always wondered about the Music in you Videos. Now I know it is your own.
Keep up that great attitude.....
NICE! Thanks for sharing the music portion as well. Have a great day! Oh and I used some of your techniques on a drainage system fix at my friends house today! She was thankful that I knew how based on your techniques! Thank you!
So why use pvc instead of corrugated pipe? And why not use a catch basin with a filter screen at the bottom of the downspout to collect shingle gravel and leaves instead of making it a closed system?
Hi Chuck, thanks for the videos. I did one downspout (the worst one) in one corner of the house. Seems to be working ok, so I'll have more to do. I used corrugated leading to a catch basin 12 feet from the gutter. The old pipe collapsed under the weight of the sidewalk so I couldn't replace it yet. I'll need to lift the concrete slab which I'm not sure how I'll do it...or just use pressure washer to create a pass under the sidewalk.
you are an inspiration. Have a great day!
Such a cool dude. Give man a fish and he'll eat for a day... Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for life. Thank you!
Congratulations on hitting 100,000 subscribers Chuck! Well deserved!

Cleanouts are nice
Battery sawzaw for roots.
2 cycle tiller to ease up digging.
Easy peasy
Why would PVC belly more than flexible corrugated?
Good for you! I really enjoy your channel. Continued luck to you Sir.
Thanks for the video! I always enjoy them. How do I know how much of a decline that I have to do on the pipe? What do you think of laying gravel to stop the bellying?
Ya I like your theme song for sure it has a neat sound
Do you not glue the pvc pipe?
Great Theme Song
Great vid. A project I want to do.
I prefer to use sdr 35 instead of this thin wall stuff
To stop the PVC from bellying, would it be better to have a bed of pea gravel under it, before installing? Would that stabilize the PVC?
Congratulations
Did you end up gluing thise joints?? Seems you were backfilling right after the dry fit....also I would have used a "Y" at that joint not a "T"......but still very helpful
I used 4" sanitary Ts.
I was thinking the exact same thing about the wye instead of a tee
What is the transition between the downspout and the pvc and where did you get it....thanks!
It''s a downspout adapter. You can get them at lowes for $5.
Will 811 (call before you dig) be able to mark these?
What kind of PVC are you using?
I installed my first pvc piping for a downspout but did the bevel for the pipe the reverse way how you did it. Will the cause any problems down the road?
Do I need to distance the pipe from the foundation if running parallel to the foundation or is it safe to say keep it close.
How deep do you need to bury it
Check the angle with leveler every few feet.
Sounds like your ready to install a great drain! Good luck
Nice but didn’t see any clean out or diverter in the event of torrential rains that the piping can’t handle. So it doesn’t backup on your roof 😊
Why don’t you have a sweep fitting towards the discharge ? How can you clean if needed without digging it up again?
Hey chuck,
I have two gutters with about 20 feet between them that about five feet from the house there’s standing water. I plan to put a French drain in and a catch basin. Would you just grade the dirt toward a central location or have multiple catch basins? Thanks!
Why is this dirt so soft. In southern Cali it's like granite.. we need a jack hammer almost 😂.
Just jealous seeing that soft dirt.
Sch 40, 35, or triple wall? I need to replace about 160' of line and I'm not sure what to use. Previous like was corrugated plastic and it filled with roots. I'm removing the trees and I plan to keep it flushed but what is the best cost to performance value?
40 has more fittings available
We are adding drainage pipe from gutters to gutter business. What is a good walk behind trencher that will not break the bank?
Thanks.
I am confused! You don’t have a pop up drain at the end or anywhere along this long drain/pipe? And there isn’t a hose out opening at the top that connects to the gutter at the house! How on earth can you clean it/ hose out stuck debris? I’m not professional, but a few videos and even I know this isn’t a good idea, and it’s certainly not best practice, it could actually cause a very costly problem 😢
Hello Chuck. A quick question, I know I’ve seen it before (a while ago) in one of your videos but cant find it now. What is the name/brand of that “liquid rubber” material that you use when coating outside brick or any foundation walls? 100,000 subs well earned. Congrats!

@@appledrains Much appreciated!
@appledrains are you coming to New Jersey?
Hello thanks for sharing I'm going to be tackling a project like this in Ohio where i have to use catch basins to get a low spot in my yard do you recommend PVC over corrugated ads ? The theam song is grate indeed always watching your channel since you first started and it is always grate and infoming
I feel they’re about the same
@@appledrains thank you keep up the hard work
Hey Chuck what’s your input on building on a side lot which back yard has a catch basin drainage . It’s in a development 4 other properties share the same drain. Which drain off into wetland/ Buffer area?
What do you think is best for this, pvc or black pipe? Which last longer?
Both work great
How do you know when its better to use PVC pipe or corrugated pipe?
They are really both good pipe
Hi Chuck , really like you videos, question, should catch basins be put in the drain line every so many feet.?? Thanks for the help on that question...Paul
Hi Paul , catch basins should be placed in the low spots of the yard. There really isn’t any set footage amount. Just where water is pooling. Thanks for the comment
What’s a Maysurmint?
Have no idea
Ric flair?
chuck on the rifter
wouldn't you want to put a clean out in that connection ?
How much did this project cost?
Do you think using PVC glue might be overkill for drainage?
Yes sometimes
These systems are not designed to be watertight! That’s the biggest reason not to use schedule 40 PVC! It has nothing to do with roots, it has to do with freezing
@@appledrains Wow Chuck I'm glad you mention I did 200 ft PVC screwed up used 100% silicone but, wasn't watertight like PVC glue?
Chuck, can't find the 3x4 offset downspout adapters in white anywhere.....Lowes, Home Depot, Amazon, etc...
I found one at home depot black I just spray painted white works just find
@@edziuw638 I think paint will flake off that plastic gloss finish here in Florida, but I'll try one to test it out. Thanks.
No problem I used gloss white for plastic
Thick or thin wall pipe?
Sch 40?
Thin wall.
Sch 40 overkill is very costly.
40
@@maplenook I used 200ft of thin wall pvc trench down 14” sch 40 cost too much.
Are those pvc solid or have holes? Thanks
They would only have holes if it’s a French drain.
Solid
You make such beautiful videos!! Do what the pros do - P r o m o s m.
PVC >
he is using thin wall PVC
That is CORRECT. Do Not Use Schedule 40 for Downspout Drainage!!!!
@@appledrains why not,? Gate city says use 40
@@maplenook why overkill a non water tight drain? That’s crazy!!!!
@@maplenookSchedule 40 is a beast to work with as I found out by imitating one of Gate City's designs for my home project. Because the pipe is thicker than thin wall (schedule 30?), I found that when I didn't have level ground, the pipe would bridge over the valleys until I filled in underneath it. Schedule 40 doesn't seem to give to bellies (unless you were really careless with your trench and had two high points at the end of a 10ft section). If you get your trench level, it isn't a problem with any pipe, though the argument of a belly in a PVC pipe will catch shingle dust and debris, yet hundreds of little ribs in a corrugated pipe is dismissed as not being a problem. Flexible corrugated will follow the contour of the trench so the pipe will match any peaks and valleys. I do appreciate these channels and what they offer. Gate City loves PVC. French Drain "High Octane" Man loves the pipes and accessories he trademarked and invented and Chuck uses a mix, all the while reminding us that we can do it ourselves if we just "believe".
@@jasonkyleadams7577 Correct, schedule 40 is the way to go.
Digging is 95% of work
