- Here you are another video of a Group A rally icon: the Toyota Celica GT-Four ST165. Carlos Sainz was able to win the 1990 World Rally Championship with the little Japanese beast. The car is powered by a Toyota 3S-GTE 2.0-litre turbocharged engine which was able to produce 300hp at 7000 rpm and 392 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. Watch a few Celica ST165s I recorded during various Rally Legend events!

One of the best looking rally car ever built...as a group A spec it looks like almost one to one same as the standard one...so beautiful...
The driver is almost babying this car. These old Celica's were monsters back in their time!
The driver is Armin Schwarz. Ex TTE driver back in the 90's
He drove along with Carlos Sainz
To finish first, first you must finish. I'm just glad he didn't crash it.
The first, and the best, of all the 4wd Celicas.
I still have mine, and OMG, the sound is just as unique as it is loud. Love the old girl.
Is it me or does that thing looks like it has A LOT of traction? And that sound, magnificent!
Thats one of the best car sounds I have ever heard, holy moly!
Not just the sound...one can feel the race vibes while driving...from the era when performance was measured on street n not on papers
My dad bought a white manual St 162 because he couldnt find a Gt4 at the time. However about a year later he found out that his white gt4's floor was rusting so he took most of the running gear out of it and put it into his 162 but kept it front wheel drive. From there he was able to find rally parts for it due to the car being used for rallying. He fitted a group A downpipe, manifold and charge cooler aswell as a bailey dump valve and he custom built a 3" straight pipe exhaust. He also custom made a short throw gearstick. He later fitted an italvolante flat bottom steering wheel that he bought off his friend after finding it in an MR2. Aswell as this he got brake discs and pads from an st185 which had a greater surface area. He also got a ct26 turbo from a supra and machined his celica turbo to the same size to allow more air to get in and get more power out. When he took it out to a long straight stretch of road the speedometer went past 160. Unfortunately it broke a spring and he put it into the shed intending to work on it again but my little brother became sick so he was unable to fix it. The car sat for 4 years from 2012-2016 when she came back out the turbo seals were done and she was off a cylinder. He fixed it and took it to get the mot done and even though she was in a bad state she could still go. She passed the mot but a week later a guy that my dad knew bought it. My dad told him to be careful not to rev it too much and to change the oil due to the car sitting for so long. However he did not take my dads advice and wound the boost on the turbo up way to high. (around 17 psi). My dad was always careful and kept it at about 12 psi. As a result one of the pistons was damaged and then he sold it to a guy who has big plans for the car as he now wants to restore it.
Fantastic memories listening to these & the Delta Integrale 😎. Both iconic 💪🏼👌🏼
Great sounding Rally Car....I remember hearing it coming through the forests in Rally Australia in WA, one of those cars that sounds just as good coming as it does going.....Like an RS MK 2 Escort.....This one wasn't being driven as hard though. I'm pretty sure Carlos was driving them back then.
This one takes me back to my early car days. My first "nicer" car was a Celica GT-S hatchback. I believe it came with 135hp 3S-GE engine. I took a used 88 All-trac turbo for a test drive, but someone had ragged it out, so I decided to pass. Love these cars, though. Thanks again, Bozzy! You are the man! 👏👏👏 Cheers!
The ST-165. One of the most pleasing cars to drive I've owned . . . . .⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💓
I missed the good old days of Grp A rallying.
this particular celica with red and white livery has always been one of my favourites... it never beat the Delta in its day but I liked this over the Lancia anyways idk why.. so this video is like my ultimate group A indulgence :))) thanks a ton
What are you talking about mate??? In its debut year it didnt, but the next year there was nothing Lancia could do.
1990 champions....
I was referring to manufacturer's titles but yes, Toyota didn't go down without a fight.
To me manufacturers title isnt that of big deal.
What comes down to it is the drivers title, and when Toyota entered the championship, the next 5 years Lancia only won twice the drivers title, so they gave more than a fight. They surpassed Lancia. And btw in 1991 it was very rough by just 7points...
But i know what you mean...manufacturers is also important, it means consistency in teamwork
Btw those were most definitely the best years, the fights Toyota and Lancia put in the ground was amazing tough...
This brings back some memories! Such a distinctive sound 👌
That launch! damn like a rocket!
OMG Thank you so much for this: Im a huge fan of the 165
No problem at all!
Proper rally car! ;) great vid as per usual Bozzy, you deserve to have many more subscribers than you have.
Thank you so much! :D
Magnificent sound reminds Magnificent era in rally. Nice clip Boz ;-)
Thank you!
That is a nostalgic sound 👌🏼
St165 has the best sound of all the three versions.
at 0:35 his inside tyres or off the ground in the kerb, initial d style ahaha
This is the car that took Carlos sainz to two drivers titles in 1990 and 1992
Love WRC but i do miss these legends
awesome video as always
I own this car but its just the GT model 1991 to be exact. and lemme tell you its damn fun to drive! especially hard ;)
I can't believe my mom gave her's away
you sure it's not your mom driving it in this video?
Real car. Sound.
Gran bella macchina, i veri rally del passato!!
Really beautiful 😍 car!!!
Damn I miss running mine. It's been sitting for a few years once I took it off the Audio scene and refitted most of the original interior. Was a 5300W rms, MTX Audio demo vehicle in Queensland Australia.
What I have no idea about is where to start to get it back running again. Any help from Celica GT4 owners. Mainly 1989 ST165's.
Kepp in mind, these things are absolutely rare as in Australia. The ST185 was the first import we actually brought in.
3S power!
Celica ST165 - The Maestro Grandpa
Celica ST185 - The Flamboyant Father
Celica ST205 - The Turbo Kiddo
Love!!
Does this car have a group a ae101 1.6l 20v engine?

baby of toyota+yamaha
Wow! The Best sound from all of the grp A cars, together with Delta integrale, I think 👌
Omg, more I hear and see a Gt Four the want gets stonger!
i have a 1986 toyota celica gt engine is a 2se non turbo and i am wondering if that engine straight piped would sound good?
Best to put a 3s ge in it bro.... I have a redtop beams turbo in mine
Why the Celica has no Turbo Flutter?
Does that thing still have the 4AGE in it? It sounds nothing like my MR2 if it does.
This and the SW20 have the 3sgte
Damn, I'm gonna swap a 3SGTE then. Thing sounds hella nice.
I have a redtop beams turbo in my st165
this car as a owner of two. Can still eat subrus 240sx hondas and etc . The celica was the plate form for the corolla and supra and after the celica made a mark for the supra and knw as the celicasupra it became divided. Sadly everyone thinks the supra was a single brand to begging with same as the corolla and sadly I've seen to much of these celica legends be overlooked for the 240s supras hondas and etc . People are afraid to embark into this car idk why. But people need to start saving them. I've seen to many end up in the junkyard in complete condition and some special Carlos edition with rare parts and bodykits. But yet aging the car scene is to focus on 2jz and 240s and mitatas and hondas like doesn't everyone do that swap and own that car .Yo Try this car trust me this cars are sexy and super bullet proof I tell u . And great engineering. By the way great video I really appreciate u putting this together makes me think of the day I will drive this car aging due to funding and time but make s me wonder but thk u .
Thinking about grabbing one heard great things about celicas
Wtf this almost sounds like a boxer engine !
Boxer layout does not create that burbling sound. For example in Impreza it's caused by unequal-length headers in the exhaust. My guess would be that this car also uses them. Couldn't find any info though, it's always near impossible to find such detailed info :/
SingleTurboSupra Even with equal length headers the boxers and the inline engines don't sound the same, it's just that the UEL _accentuates_ the effect.
Kaisuke971 Of course they wont sound exactly same, but that burble isn't caused by boxer layout. Pretty obvious, since that car is inline yet sounds like an Impreza.
You should listen to a straight piped STi with equal length headers. It's true that the UEL can simulate the burble, like in the Shelby GT350, but the boxer engines still have it anyway.
Kaisuke971 Well, it seems (or sounds lol) you are right about that one. But if I had to guess, the burble on that Celica is caused by the uel headers. I can't think of anything else that could cause it
And toyota returns to WRC this year
with a stupid sup'ed up Yaris.

ありがとうトヨタの皆様!絆を胸に頑張ります(〃⌒ー⌒〃)ゞ🌸
2nd favourite car after Impreza GC8/555
このヘッドライトのセリカって余りイメージに残ってないけど、カッコいいね。
Sounds more like a 5 cyl
Where's the oversteer?!
