- Avril recorded this song in the year 2000, later Kelly Clarkson recorded in the album BREAKAWAY .. After Samantha Moore in 2007 included this song in the Album Both Sides of Me ...AND NOW !!! we can listening the Avril's version of this song :D
The fact that Avril wrote this song at age 14 speaks a lot how talented she is. I’ve always felt that this song is definitely her story. She really came from a small town in Canada & this was her big break to the music industry. Kelly sang tgis song really well but after hearing this version, I felt Avril’s emotion more. The rawness, her anxiety, her excitement transitioning to a bigger world ahead of her. How I wished she recorded this & included in her debut album.

According to what ive been told she was forced to scrap this song by her record label cause it didnt fit the album, but regardless both songs you can tell come from her heart, my world too

@@kekwayblaze3176 Yeah, she was a country singer primarily in the beginning of her career, cause of her upbringing in small town Ontario. You can see her performing live at a bookstore before she signed for her first record album

She turned to rock later on when she became more of a rebel in her mid teenage teenage years, (15-16) she found rock during that time, dropped out of high school and was signed Based on that.
Now she released the song officially. The final version is amazing.
Hearing this version, you can really hear its her song. She put her heart in it
and the fact that she wrote it when shes about 15 or 16 ... what a talent :')
From what I remember she said that she wrote it at 13 years old.
When I discovered Avril hadwritten this when I checked the song credits (which I always do every time I listen to a song for the first time), it made complete sense. The song had her fingerprints all over it.

@Aabruh Of course it's more polished -- Clarkson did a full recording, and Lavigne did a demo. Clarkson also has a stronger voice. That doesn't change my point about the enunciation.
Love her harmonies here. She sounds really young. Good for her for getting that $$$$$$ from giving it to Kelly!

you have bno clue. she is such a good songwriter. she hat before 16 allready a album ready O.o she had nearby only good songs compared to mooooost other singersongwriter. realy. if youre somehow musican or have musican blood in your body you cant deny this. she is outstanding in songwriting and even in singing she was near outstanding very very high compared to others. i mean sure top 10 last 20 years. but only till her voice gets too high:/ wasnt special anymore. sounds like my sister grrr

I can say that although she wrote the song and sing demo. Kelly Clarkson vocal range fit perfectly for this song. This is not avril style that we hear on Let Go album.

Tell me a singer that uses this vocal technique other than Avril. You probably can't. I would say Avril is underrated, but aside from Let Go and her B-Side songs, she never did this particular technique, nor her insane voice control like in Things I'll Never Say. No other female singer can come close to her "peak" (HBG has similarities to her low voice technique, but still, not even close if you at the big picture)

It took me almost 20years to realise that Breakaway was written by Avril Lavigne. Personally I think Avril made a good choice that she sold this song to Kelly bcoz the vibe and music is totally different from her "Let go" album. Imagine that she recorded this song into her album at that time, this song will gonna be a b-side song and people would not bother to listen, then this song gonna be forgotten and not popular until now.
