- Fifteen years after giving the song to Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne plays "Breakaway" live in public for the first time.
Breakaway was written for Avril Lavigne's 2002 debut album, Let Go, but was left off the album. It was given to Kelly Clarkson to record for the Princess Diaries 2 soundtrack released in August 2004, and was later included on Clarkson's Breakaway album in November 2004. This song was recorded live in concert at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California on September 17, 2019 during Avril Lavigne's Head Above Water tour.

No offense but Avril didn’t give it to Kelly. She gave it Samantha Moore but her label didn’t go through with it. They took it and used it for Kelly’s album.

The lyrics in her demo was “Snow” not rain, but in this Live she just sang rain like the Kelly version. I wish She sang “Snow” because she grew up in Canada and it’s her song.

Well demos are demos. They're not the final product. Maybe somewhere along the way they decided the lyric "rain" was better. It doesn't necessarily mean it was because it was the "kelly verison"
She sang snow in Chicago. I’m assuming she’s used to hearing Kelly’s version and just messed up
It’s interesting you can tell how this song was actually Avril’s now that she sings it. There’s a quality that is unmatched when you hear a songwriter sing their own songs. I feel her story in this. Not to take away from what Kelly did with it. She is amazing as well. But I feel something more hearing Avril sing this personally.

I'm disappointed she didn't preform this at her Seattle show. That said, her voice now seems to fit this song better than the demo version she made 17 years ago.

Like I always thought 'Dancing Crazy' by Miranda Cosgrove sounded exactly like something Avril would write and years later I found out she did. It's artists like Beyonce who buy credits and it's obvious because the style of her songs completely changes depending on the group of co-writers, there's nothing distinctly Beyonce about any of them

It’s ok but it doesn’t touch Kelly’s rendition. The higher notes Avril had to push to reach… she was pulling chest. Kelly has an incredible technique and mixes like no other. It’s easier and healthier when Kelly sings it.

You can tell she wrote it. Despite it being written by Avril, Kelly's was the original, so this is technically a cover. Usually when that happens we can tell a distinct difference between and have strong preference towards the original. This is definitely not that. This sounds perfect snd made for her, which it was.

Hi Cadu, I didn't get "I Fell In Love With The Devil" from the encore, but I did get the next song, which was "I'm With You." I also definitely shot "It Was In Me."
