@@anthonyt1t5I thought it was part not being soft in front of Boba Fett and Vader, and part hoping she takes it bad and moves on after this carbonite (or Jabba's execution) kills him. He wasn't expecting to survive
nah, you're right. you can tell by his look that he was saying ILU back. that was the genius of the scene. he DID know, and he was already there in the feels dept.
God Damn I'm getting old, but I remember seeing Empire and Return in the theater as a kid. And I remember thinking WOW I want to travel with Han and the wookie and fight with the rebels. 😅
Scene-to-scene dialogue was definitely a weak point of Lucas's writing. He had a lot of input on it to when filming the OT, including Obi-Wan's actor overhauling his whole script.
“I know” would sound condescending from most other actors but the way Harrison Ford delivered that line made it work. He may speak rudely and selfishly but he shows up for his friends despite the danger. He doesn’t put much significance on words. So when Leia confesses to him, “I know” is a statement that whatever mixed signals she may have exhibited through their bickering, he saw beneath and was aware of her feelings. The tender way he spoke also conveys he felt the same way, that the words didn’t need to be spoken.
When I told my future wife, I love you (early on in our relationship), her response was "Me too." She did not respond with I love you too, just that she loves herself too. She had just come out of a divorce and it was a pretty bad relationship. I understood her response. It took a while, but with persistence, she eventually figured out that I love you from me was a true statement, not something that didn't matter to me. We have been married now nearly 50 years. I still tell her that I love her every day.
He says to Leia "you know you love me, admit it"(I forget the actual quote) on Hoth at the start. When she says "I love you", it's the perfect response from him. They were cats at each other all film.
She knew she was falling for Mr Wrong, and she was fighting against it as long as she could ..... In the sequels we find out that eventually they split ....
I remember watching that in the theater and when he said that line, my mouth dropped, along with the entire theater. And then we bust out laughing. Ironic it's at a moment when he's getting frozen, but people were clapping.
Apart from being the coolest guy in the universe, I have always thought it also was a noble way for him not to put too much burden on her shoulders, minutes before being frozen in carbonite with a high probability of dying in it. It appears the explanation is simpler, but Harrison Ford might have unconsciously figured out that a man in a such a dire predicament wouldn’t enforce an eternal bond with the woman he loves, therefore freeing her to live her life without him… or not?
For one he doesn’t want to show vulnerability in front of their enemies, two he wants to indicate that all they went through leading up was with the knowledge of how she felt, and also that perhaps she could answer this question herself if she thinks about it. If he knows from what I’ve been like, does he love me from the way he’s been like? I think he does. The external validation switches to her internal validation. She knows too. Even though he won’t be there to say it.
tbh you can say something WITHOUT saying it. eyes and facial expression. so the words were "i know" but you could see it was a "yeah, me too." ARTFUL. this is why collaborations are so helpful and successful!! that was one little instance that made a huge impact, and it's easier for the actor in a part to notice those things vs the writer director of the entirety. thanks harrison!

My husband has been returning my “I love you”s for 11 years with this answer. 😂. Mind you that started 30 years after the movie came out. 😂❤
Leia and Han on the phone.
Han: You hang up first..
Leia: *Giggle* No you hang up first..
Han: No you hang up first..
Leia: No you....hello?
Han: Friggin hate talking to her on the phone.
Had another call incoming from Chewie.
Chewie wants to know why he's 3 hours late for their nice easy charter.
GHaghghghghgg
“Boring conversation anyway.”
It's awesome to see that even though Ford "hated" playing han solo, he still put in the effort to make an amazing character!
And that's the acting brilliancy of Harrison Ford.
You want them to go down the way they lived.
Yes, yes we did.
To know that you are loved is a wonderful gift.
Wasn't it Ford who had Carrie Fisher unalived shortly after she informed him that she was about to publish a book that included all the details about the affair they had during the shooting of the first Star Wars flick?
I love the look on Han’s face at the end of Return of the Jedi when he thinks he lost her to Luke. Then she said “He’s my brother.”
This is the nicest I have EVER heard him when talking about Star Wars. He has disparaged it for forty plus years.
As much as I adored Han Solo ( my first crush) , I had thought that this line meant that he loved her too.
Color me too romantic. 😊
My interpretation is that he didnt have to tell her that he loved her too,
Or like "you know I love you, there's no point for me saying it."
I never thought of it as han trying to be a badass to the end.
Either way, the line is very original. Harrison is great

Harrison knew better his solo character than lucas 🙂
Words on a page are like the skeleton ....
The actor has to
"Flesh out" the character ......
Scene-to-scene dialogue was definitely a weak point of Lucas's writing. He had a lot of input on it to when filming the OT, including Obi-Wan's actor overhauling his whole script.
“It’s like poetry - it rhymes.”
- George Lucas
perfect loop, nicely done
Thank you!
To me it was *still* beautiful. 💜
It's beyond beautiful, since he is saying "i love you too" but in character
That loop is CLEAN
If the woman is a Star Wars fan - she will LOVE that answer 😂😂😂
Woman said to me, “I love you”, I replied, “You better!”❤😂
He says to Leia "you know you love me, admit it"(I forget the actual quote) on Hoth at the start. When she says "I love you", it's the perfect response from him. They were cats at each other all film.
She knew she was falling for Mr Wrong, and she was fighting against it as long as she could .....
In the sequels we find out that eventually they split ....

When metal hample got involved in politics staeswears became dead to me
Genius at work.
Just brilliant. My heart sank when he said that to her.
I remember watching that in the theater and when he said that line, my mouth dropped, along with the entire theater. And then we bust out laughing. Ironic it's at a moment when he's getting frozen, but people were clapping.
I can 100% concur that this line works. Its the last thing women want to hear, but it's also the thing that will drive them wild
"You want you bad ass chatacters to go down as they lived"
Should someone tell him?
i mean, the Original trilogy was a fitting end to the star wars movies. Glad those fan films that claim to be episodes 7-9 aren't canon.

He came up with that! Brilliant! 🤣
He's the goat!
Wow! That's all I need to know about Harrison' acting motivations. ❤️
He is the GOAT!
These short clips always throw me in a... loop 😏
tbh you can say something WITHOUT saying it. eyes and facial expression. so the words were "i know" but you could see it was a "yeah, me too." ARTFUL. this is why collaborations are so helpful and successful!! that was one little instance that made a huge impact, and it's easier for the actor in a part to notice those things vs the writer director of the entirety. thanks harrison!
the sarcasm in his eyes, he actually is a master at communicating with his facial expressions, especially his eyes
The family guy parody nails it:
Leia: I love you!
Han: Fuck off.
Hahaha true
wasnt it fuck you?!
Badass indeed . He knows how Han Solo behaves and his choice of improv worked out 100000000% better
