I just had one with my mother. I own the part that I play in our relationship and I realize too that how I feel or my perspective or even my healing is never taken in consideration because I am not her age as she tells me. It’s not her responsibility to fix and heal me or change the relationship nor is my responsibility to change her. She wants constant control and I don’t care who it is. Nobody is going to be up in my face dictating my life and how I should live it. It’s difficult because I don’t know how to grieve a living parent but I will make it out of this. I will be financially free and move out as soon as possible. I hope you did the same!✨

And I’m seeing lots of Indian, Chinese, and Arabic people frustrated too but just know it’s happening everywhere. I’m American. Older people somehow have a hard time understanding/empathizing with people 25-30 years younger I guess.

I hope somebody will read this and tell me whether I'm right or wrong, cause I wanna know if I'm the problem in my family....I REALLY DO...
My mom said I'm not her daughter anymore...and that I will never succeed...I made her cry, I feel terrible...
a few weeks ago I had a heated argument with my sister and she came to talk to me twice...but that day was the last straw for me...my sis told me that I was just taking advantage of everyone around me, when I asked her to take me to my school to collect my marklist, the entire ride she kept insulting me and I walked halfway back home in tears...I was so upset, that I vowed that I'd never speak to her again...and my mom came up to me and told me that I should go talk to her because she came to talk to me twice...but she never apologised...she just tapped me...I never got "I'm sorry" out of her...and my mom kept forcing me to apologise to her and saying things like "when we are gone you guys will only have each other" and it pissed me off...it ended with her crying because I was being mean to her and she said that I'm not her daughter anymore and that she didn't want me anymore...she also cursed me...am I wrong for getting mad at my mom for this?
Your comment makes sense I argue a lot with my family but for a while it was all okay, then this happened...

I learned a funny thing... It's like if your father was a drunkard from birth... You just go on about your life... It doesn't bother you much... But it's the expectations that hurts... It's why we are constantly hurt by someone or the other.... All you can actually do is to be the bigger person in the situation... Assess it, build your own life... Move away if they are toxic... Only do your duties when they need help... Know that they will also step on you if you play the doormat... But then say things respectfuly ... Like... Tell her what hurt you and if she still makes it about herselevs then let it be.... You tried... First ask them in depth what you said hurt them because sometimes explaining can make them realize that they are actually being petty.... But dont expect they are older so they should do better kind of thing... Because the are no better than any other humans,.. Not everyone grows as they age.... ..
All this said.... Even I can't practice it.... It boils my blood everytime I hear my parents badmouthing me because I am jobless single at 29 and overweight... Even though I have a degree and I have reasons why I am struggling to find my way again.. But they did try, ,, as time went on they also started getting bitter.... I might move out soon.. I don't know if that will solve it.... But I will atleast have freedom... And then I don't know....
It's like I am working on accepting them as they are but I still get angry when they taunt me... And they as adults too I have seen them unable to mend other relationships or how they grow distant from my relatives because they don't treat them as expected.... So that's exactly how they will behave with their children too.... Not every parent has a good personality... They wouldn't suddenly become wise in front of their kids... One day you become a mother doesn't mean you suddenly become a women of character... But the love shows when all is good... And their character shows when all is not good..... Nothing you can do about it than to work on your selves. But turns out I am not that big of a person myselves... Open conversations can definitely help... But in my case I have to be financially independent before I can ask them to treat me like an adult and to demand freedom which is my primary stressor right now. ... Another thing I would ask is if their love is only as good as my achievements but maybe I could forgive that one because I know they are not that big a person.. ....
But definitely not getting what you want from your child is like a milder version of loosing your child for parents who haven't learned to manage their expectations... In your case, ask your sister why she said that and what they would want you to do differently.... And then you can work around that... Let them know that if they draw a line because they are frustrated .... You wouldn't just tolerate everything....so if just telling them to shut up wont work then ask them what you should do so they won't speak to you like that.... Good luck kid.... For me I know I should get a job.. And them maybe I can tell them that I will make my own choices and that I won't become this superachiever billionare family girl who would live under their wings... They can't help it and you can't fix them... But you decide what you will allow into your life... But still girl don't end up alone... It's still better to gave a family than none unless they become too much that you need to seek police Or a psychologist...

Sometimes parents try to emotionally blackmail us when they want us something to do of what they like, they think is more efficient for us. This is really sick of them. Before doing this they need to understand our point of view too as well as our perspective. Today, things are not the same as they were used be 20-30 years ago. This is absolutely true that at the end of the day, parents always want the best for their children but with this they shouldn't understimate their child's potential and capability, which are overshadowing because of their decisions. I think Indian parents are more driven by the society instead of their own instincts in taking decisions about what they needs to do.

In Bhagvad Gita It is also mentioned that there will be a time in Kalyug when parents will clean their children so bad that they will terribly bruise them. ( This is a metaphor where it is suggested that the parents control and attachment will be so unnecessarily high that its going to suffocate the children of kalyug...( As per Krishna) and that's evident.
The Bhagavad Gita, which is surely the basic text on the practice of detachment, is wonderfully explicit on this point. Krishna tells Arjuna that acting with detachment means doing the right thing for its own sake, because it needs to be done, without worrying about success or failure.

If someone goes on an adventure, travel or taste new things, without being emotionally and mentally involved in that experience, it would not be fruitful. If someone wants to go for an adventure then of course it is totally worth it, since everything happens from within.

The divine purpose of the Universe is to know itself by being and to experience/enjoy itself by doing. Sometimes people tend to focus more on being as they already feel satisfied, while others are capable to balance being and doing (trying, creating and developing things) hence evolving. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you don’t lose yourself in the world. Life is the dancer and you are the dance.

My parents are getting old. They need emotional support, they feel helpless without me. Traditionally, they are using the same trick as everyone else's parents to control me and my emotions to the end of their life. We have to live with it anyway. If we are going to a night club, please don't forget to buy something for your parents like slippers for your mom and some healthy food for your dad. I believe in balance. I told my parents that don't stop me to go to Goa, Night Club or a Movie. If you need something do tell me. But do not stop me to do my own things.

My mom and I had a huge fight because I came home after drinking.
Nothing illegal but she hates that I go out drinking.
She has problems with how I live my life but she’s home constantly and not working at all.
So our relationship is not only dependent on an emotional level, she is dependent on me and my sister on financial situations. She called the police on me yesterday night but the center hung up on her. So I called the police for her. But the problem was I was the one who got hit and I was the one who keeps getting wrung up on the line of strings. I know she is my mother and I have done many wrongs but I can’t forgive her and myself and I also can’t get over the fact that she tried to call up the police on me for drinking.

Parents are like "sari galti humari hi hai" they blame us for everything that goes wrong. If you try to be bold and show them the mirror, they will assign all the bad adjectives to you without giving it a second thought that it affects our emotions !! And moreover, they validate everything by saying "we've been through it too, and there's nothing wrong in it." No body js ready to come out of the bog, they are staying there and dragging us in too !!

With parents, their whole problem is about their expectations out of their children. They want to get everything with a limited effort. On top of that those impractical expections are highly influenced by the existing social norms and the toxic relatives who have exploited them their entire life and now want to do the same with us.
