I was taught that about “resisting”. My dad explained it to me when I was younger like this: If you come under conviction of the Holy Spirit trying to come into your heart and save your soul, and resist, and continue to resist, ignoring the Spirit, you blaspheme the Spirit. There is a limit, and if you reach it, the Holy Spirit will no longer convict you, and you will not be able to be saved. His explanation was far better than that, but that was basically it.

Eli this is an interesting topic. Now who said blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is unforgivable? Did God say it or Christ? Or was it said later by someone else who had no authority to put limits on God’s Grace? This is an honest question. I know you can be given to a reprobate mind and salvaged/redeemed.
Matthew 12:24-34 to give credit to the devil for works of the Holy Ghost is blasphemy of the Holy Ghost. Jesus cast devils out by the power of the Holy Ghost and the Pharisees said he did it by beelzebub.
I don't believe this sin can be committed unless Jesus is physically present on earth. This would mean only at his incarnation, and during the millennial reign of Christ. What did the pharisees do? They accused Jesus, whose miracles they witnessed with their own eyes, to his face, of having an unclean spirit. This can't be done today because he's not present in bodily form during the dispensation of grace.
Eli...Here's something else to think about. When Jesus declared that blaspheming the Holy Spirit was an unforgivable sin in Luke Chapter 12, he was NOT speaking to Christians. Doctrinally, he was speaking to Old Testament Jews. How do we know? Because Jesus's crucifixion didn't occur until much later (in Chapter 23). Before his crucifiction, he preached "the gospel of the kingdom" (mentioned in Matthew 24:14). He was offering to be king of Israel, but the Jews foolishly rejected him. The chapters in Luke that lead up to Chapter 23 are doctrinally Old Testament. According to Hebrews 9:16, a new Testament cannot take effect until the death of the testator. The testator in this case is Jesus. The verse reads: "Where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator."
What I'm trying to say is that the blaspheming of the Holy Ghost spoken of in Luke 12 was a particular, one-time event that occurred in the previous dispensation. We're currently in the age of grace, also called the church age. In this current dispensation, it's impossible to physically witness Jesus perform miracles, and then attribute them to Satan. So people living today can't possibly blaspheme the Holy Ghost in the context of Luke 12.
