- From time to time, I am asked about the meaning of “the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit,” because Jesus said it was an unpardonable sin. He said, “Every sin or blasphemy can be forgiven-except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which can never be forgiven” (Matthew 12:31).
When God is trying to bring a person to faith and he or she says no, that is resisting the Holy Spirit. This is a sin that only an unbeliever could commit. The work of the Spirit, as Jesus said, is to “convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” (John 16:8). And when someone refuses to accept Christ, they are denying the very mission of the Holy Spirit when they say they don’t need salvation, when they say, “Not only am I saying no to this, but I am saying that I don’t care if Jesus died. And if He did die, then His death was a waste. I don’t care if He shed His blood. It means nothing to me.”
That insults the Holy Spirit, because the Bible says, “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?” (Hebrews 10:29).
Therefore, the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is when unbelievers say no to the Spirit’s work of showing them their need for Jesus and bringing them to faith. By resisting and turning their back on God’s gracious offer of forgiveness, they can ultimately insult-and even blaspheme-the Holy Spirit and go beyond a point of no return. To resist the Holy Spirit’s appeal is to insult God and to effectively cut off all hope of salvation.

Why does Jesus say you can speak against the son of man and be forgiven, but those speak against the holy spirit will never have forgiveness?
Another converted pharisee was Saul of Tarsus, who became the great apostle, Paul - the LORD Jesus changed his name as a metaphor to his conversion!
Pastor Greg might you clarify something for me? The Bible definitely speaks about dealing with the devil and seducing spirits and warns of the nefariousness of the transaction... also Jesus himself was an example of the devil attempting a transaction of this type when our Lord tread the wilderness and Satan Took him to the highest point and offered him the world and all the material things within in exchange for or Lord testing our Father this is indeed the grandest business transaction ever attempted
The unforgivable sin is seeing the holy ghost manifesting the same works that jesus christ did through the born again believers and attributing them or calling them of the devil....

When I'm having a mind attack, I tend to whisper Good things for example "Jesus is good" or the "Holy Spirit is good" but sometimes I dont know if I accidentally get my words mixed up and say the bad thoughts. I get so much anxiety from it, I cry, my body shakes and I immediately Pray and Repent. I'm just so scared. I've gotten so much anxiety from this. This is probably the most scariest tying I've felt. I've prayed to God to take the thoughts away, I know I need to trust Him but it's so hard at times, I know I sound like a terrible person for saying that but I mean I always worry aswell my heart isn't soft enough or that I'm not forgiven. Please if someone could reach out it would dearly help me.

Advice: Thoughts out of nowhere? First remove bad language from daily usage, read the bible and meditate about what you read in it but before that, pray for revelation, speak only good things when bad thoughts appear, always remember what you have learned about God and the bible, and pray daily. The fear of God is key, the 1st commandment is key, Love the Lord with all you soul, heart, and mind.
I understand you sister I deal with the same thing and I’m 25 but it is just trusting God with everything I know it is difficult and you feel like you have no forgiveness but you do. Remember that we are not saved because we are good or because we are bad we are saved because of the grace of God! Now it will take a lot of time and work to learn to master yourself. Remember that God gave us a spirit of courage, love , and self discipline. Not of fear. To me you are fearful woman of God and you fear God and remember that fearing God doesn’t mean to be scared of him it means to respect him. So it is good that you acknowledge your sin and that is what God wants. Fearing God is not doing what is wrong and yet we still do wrong. Again it doesn’t mean to go out and do whatever you want but by fearing God you will do your best to ignore or avoid the bad desires. Be strong and do not be afraid. God knows your heart even when you do not know yourself. But read the Bible and pray not 24/7 but give God first place and remember that even when we are unfaithful he is still faithful because he is not human like us . I have been where you are , and I worked up the courage to ask a trusted pastor about it. His reply? "The fact that you are worried about it is proof that you haven't". A favorite trick of the enemy is to whisper things into our mind to distract us from Jesus, and especially from praying. Its cruel, and the enemy only does it to torment us. God still loves us though the pain of such attacks, dear one...and always will. We will not be snatched from His hand. Jesus promised us peace, and THAT is the truth...and a very effective weapon we can use. Always quote scripture when these things happen- "Resist the devil and he will flee from you" is one of my own favorites for when such thoughts come slithering in. God bless and keep you- its going to be alright.

I'm 55 and spent over 25 years in fear of having blasphemed the Holy Spirit. I've finally listened to numerous ministers and found that I haven't even come close to it and, from what you've described, you haven't either sweetheart.
Just stay in the Word and keep praying to our Father and the Holy Spirit will guide you through this attack.
The unforgiveable sin is rejection of Christ. All others are atoned for. So, as a believer in Christ, that is behind you.

@@briannavlopezA lot of Christians have trouble with those blasphemous thoughts. Don't worry. It's normal. I've had trouble with them too. Satan is the one putting them in your head to try to get you discouraged and to worry. Don't listen to him. The fact that you are worried about it shows that you haven't committed it. A true Christian CANNOT commit it.
Someone once said, if you are worried that you have committed the unpardonable sin, then you probably have not committed the sin. You have to have knowingly commit this sin.

Repeating what "someone" said as fact is also dangerous. Tread carefully. Only repeat exact words of Jesus as fact. Then you know you speak only truth

This message scared me and I asked my dad 'Have I doomed myself? Is everything I've done and am trying to do and plan to do for nothing ?'
And I was told that is EXACTLY what the accuser will want you to believe.
If you believe in God, accept Jesus and live in his word you are not unforgivable. The thought of you being unforgivable is EXACTLY what the devil wants you to believe. He WANTS you to say 'well, it doesn't matter because I've doomed myself '
That is simply not true. If you are concerned about this you have not done it ! Your heart is not hardened and you ARE forgivable. Have faith, and don't let this message scare you away from Christ. There's a time for fear but never a time for worry or doubt because you can give it to God and he will carry that for you so you don't have to

Just wanted to say thank you for these messages that are well timed and exactly when God sees I need to hear them. I've been struggling with entrenched sinful habits and have been earnestly praying for God to cleanse them from me and help me to not return to them. Dorothy, you only need the will to seek knowledge of God. Pick up the bible and read His word asking Him for help. Seek out a His good promises and who it is He keeps them to. Seek knowledge of a God using His word not men. Men are failed beings. God promises His own spirit to those He has given His son. It just takes a sincere and earnest seeking to worship in spirit and in truth. He supplies us with everthing we need just as we can use it. None of us can find the narrow way so few find unless we are given God's spirit.
You don't need _prayers_ from others; YOU need to pray.

Brady, instead of listening to men pick up your bible early in the morning before you begin your day and with a heart seeking God, truly seek knowledge of Him. Seek to worship Him in spirit and in truth. If you are sincere He will give you everything you need, just as you can use it. He is not so far from anyone of us, it just takes a seeking sincere heart.

As I understand it, Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the ultimate and complete rejection of Christ even though you know the truth. It's beyond doubt or unbelief.

The "Point of no return" part of your message was outstanding the times I started hearing your messages at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. My dad's best friend smoked cigarretes and I had to drive him once to work to a town a couple hours away from where we were, and while driving, noticed he lit cigarretes one after the other one and was eager to tell him if he had considered giving up cigarrettes for good. Because they were not good for him.
He told me he had wrestled throughout his life quitting smoking and had recently decided to get support from a doctor to help him quit. Then told me his doctor made some tests and told him the damage to his lungs was such, if he quitted or not, it would not make that much difference for him. He had missed the "point of no return". Even if he quit his lungs would not restore. Sadly,
he died connected to an oxigen tank and his life dimmed. I thank the Lord for meeting him and think good of him. He went to a church and believe was placed in my life to clear that doubt I had. Thank you for what you do! Jesus is sweet and tender and good.

i was told that if one committed murder that would be unpardonable as well. Now we all know that isn't right either.
Can I ask you to pray and agree with me and my husband that we can get our chicken farm sold and get another farm (to grow alfalfa hay) bought and get completely out of debt. We've actually found another farm and we've signed a contract on it but we're really needing a buyer for ours now. We've only had one offer on it and it was half of what we are needing in order to get out of debt and own our next farm. We also need the bank to go ahead and lend the money on the other farm. We're just really in a financial situation that only the Lord can help us with. Thank you for your prayers and your ministry. I love you and your family. Blessings

Take note: "The SIN against the FLESH is for the FLESH" which can be forgiven through Sincere Repentance to God... while "the SIN against the SPIRIT is for the SPIRIT" which is the UNFORGIVABLE/UNPARDONABLE SIN against the Holy Spirit/Ghost. (ref. John 3:6-7)... Praise be to God in Christ Jesus... Amen.

When i was a child, I yelled there is no god after learning of the death of my grandfather. I feel this falls under the sin of blaspheming the holy spirit. Once it came out of my mouth i regretted it and to this day. Thankyou for your teachings and god bless
Trust me Mark we've all done stupid things like that. I have! I like reading Psalms sometimes because David was kind of take to God once in awhile. It's a human condition. We don't always understand what's happening and sometimes we're just very hurt! We're like Lord how can you let this happen to me! It's quite normal don't feel badly about it you already apologized God has an excellent memory once one apology was more than enough. No guilt trips that's from satan.
No Mark, the one who says there’s no God is “only” a fool. You did not blaspheme the Spirit. You did not attribute His work to the devil like the Pharisees did.

Right now I’m 15 and I was terrified to of committing the unforgivable sin, but you cannot commit that sin today, you must see Jesus perform his miracles, and you had to publicly attribute his power to Satan. After Jesus performed his miracles, he also spoke in parables.
10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
This simply means that the Pharisees back then had all the evidence of Jesus performing miracles through the power of the Holy Spirit, yet they wilfully denied Jesus and ACCUSED him of being demon possessed and performing miracles under the power of Satan. So it is impossible to commit this sin when Jesus is not present on Earth, because you cannot blaspheme the Holy Spirit to his face.

I am very concerned especially about some very famous preachers who continually insult the work of the Holy Spirit by saying that most Charismatic Christians aren't really Christians. They totally deny the great modern movements of the Holy Spirit that have taken place from the Azusa movement on down the line. They stand in judgment like the Pharisees that Jesus confronted, puffed up with their knowledge of the scriptures but denying the power of God! If that is not blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, I don't know what is!

I have faced so much sorrow and grief, didnt grow up knowing God. Now I walk with His supernatural Joy and Gladness and it is also an annointing! Yeshua himself was given it from his Father to help him endure to the end and for it to be given to us! I have powerful testimonies to share. Even now, have faced mockery, called names, even asked, "What kind of world are you from"? Beware of others tryin' to get you to fall! Forgive, love the persons, hate their sins against you, (do not realize they are sinning against themselves, opposing themselves, and God too)! Warn them in love with scripture! They don't just deny the holy spirit, they deny that Jesus was God and after he was a man for 33 and a half years he went back to being God the son. They deny the Divinity of Jesus Christ. You will notice that in all cults.
