    Hi Kasia, I really find watching your workflow useful. I love using floating tools in full screen mode as well. For me, I STILL keep the exposure and HDR tools floating. In this way I can take advantage of the speed edit keys AND still get to the before/after

    I do like the approach of editing one images completely and then copy the it to the other pictures.Furthermore I do like to work with layers. That gives more flexibility on finetuning. the effects. I do like to use the hotkey for some basic ajustment of the exposure and the highlight recovery.

      Fair enough, take what suits your workflow, make it fit and drop the rest. Love working with layers too, can’t imagine any complex edit on a background layer 😁

    Great tips Kasia! I use C1 exclusively on the PC. On a laptop I would actually update as Speededit would really make sense here. Decoupling the color adjustment tool as you demonstrated is awesome.

    Hi, Kasia. I travel on a motorcycle, live in hotels permanently, so a small laptop is my only practical option. I do not feel particularly handicapped by the small screen myself and usually edit with everything open in normal view. My display is 14" at 1920 X 1080 @125% scaling (the latter assures that I can have Levels/Histogram and Layers open and visible simultaneously). That is, my workspace resembles what you display in most of your videos and hasn't cramped my workflow at all (perhaps simply because I haven't experienced anything bigger or better). So I too had little use for the new Speed Edit feature; nor, like you, do I ever batch edit. I have recently found one handy use for it however. After a long editing session with many images, I like to hide all the panels, switch to full screen, and review my work in a more relaxed way, after giving my eyes and mind a good rest. Like you, I can spend hours editing. That's when I like to use the new keys, as they permit me to make tiny adjustments without otherwise disturbing the fuller, presentation view. Although the final edit is before me, this helps with those afterthoughts and small tweaks to basic adjustments, which subsequent edits may impact, especially since I tend to rush those sometimes at the beginning. Maybe some others may find this helpful as well, at the end of their workflow rather than at the beginning, and so be able to enjoy this new but otherwise trivial addition to Capture One.

      Hi Randall, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. How is the traveling going during the covid? In which part of the world are you right now? I'm curious how do you manage moving around right now. Can I see your images somewhere please? :)
      Yes, I fully agree, there are as many different approaches to C1 interface as photographers. After a while you just have a feeling what is useful and what is redundant. 14" is more than enough, what matters is your personal take on the images and your unique experience in the first place. No one is going to travel with a 27" display :D And i want to share with you that I was working on different laptops for such a long time, that after I eventually bought the 27 inch iMac it felt a bit awkward. I put it on my desk but didn't really use it for months.

      The pandemia has not effected me much, Kasia, neither with respect to my movements or my day-to-day. Life around me generally pursues its normal rhythm, undisturbed, as if the pandemia were all a distant happening or someone else's perverse invention. I was already outside of the US before the virus reached America. I mentioned living in hotels without exaggeration, as I have no home or fixed residence and have been wandering like this for nearly a decade. Though it may seem paradoxical, I don't see myself as a traveler as such, nor should others construe this as some grand adventure; it's simply a lifestyle that for me has become as routine and ordinary as any other. Travel as such holds no appeal for me, as I've done it virtually since birth and have already lived on five continents. I'm not a tourist and tend to react rather viscerally when people suggest that. Now I confine myself to Latin America because I took the trouble to learn the language, mainly Central America and Mexico, although I did make it to South America as well early on. Presently I'm in Campeche, Mexico, inland on the Yucatan Peninsula. I also mentioned elsewhere that I have a certain aversion to online presence, which means zero participation in social networks. Nor do I use or have a phone (so no Instagram). I only mention this again because people often react like frozen computers that require rebooting, if I mention it only once. All my images, therefore, live on my hard disk or in my head (equally hard perhaps). I've never been much interested in the work of other photographers, so naturally assume a corresponding indifference on their part with regard to my own. But thank you for expressing an interest (although, of course, that now means that I'd better hurry up an get back to work ;).

    • @KasiaZmokla
      @KasiaZmokla  3 года назад

      @@randall8496 You made me even more curious now, hope to see some of your images before you decide to go 100% offline and throw your computer into the ocean. I assume you use email. That's interesting that you don't find traveling as such appealing anymore. Maybe you have reached the oversaturation point, or just changed, developed and now looking at things from a different perspective. To me the ability to pack up few things and have the freedom to go was a cure for daily routine. But having a purpose was the basic factor to make those travels meaningful - complete a trek in Nepal, complete a vipassana retreat in Sri Lanka and so on. Wandering freely didn't work for me - I was feeling the familiar uneasiness coming from repetitiveness.
      Have you ever considered writing? This idea popped in my mind several times when I read your words. Obviously English in not my native language, but I think I can recognise and appreciate a great style. You could write about anything, it is just such a pleasure to read your thoughts. No doubts you are aware that living almost offline makes you and the way you experience life very unique. Not sure if you would enjoy writing about it, just think that it could show others that there are still choices to make and life dictated by smartphone notifications is just an option. I've seen native people glued to their phones and social media apps in every remote part of the world I have reached. So in case you have a blog or a published book - let me know. Have you read Hermann Hesse? Steppenwolf, Siddartha and so on... I have a feeling you might enjoy his thoughts.

    Can I propose a topic for a new video?
    Could you cover soft proofing in Capture One?
    Is there a way to preview the final appearence of printed images considering color, lightness and contrast characteristics of a given paper?
    Thank you again.
    Kind regards

    hi Kasia,
    1.- I found the same as you, Speed Edit does not add any value to me as my pictures change so much I can only view them as one or just a batch of few
    2.- speed edit would be good for someone making somehow reporting photography who needs quick edit to achieve "speed" to send them to each news group
    3.- is there a reason to avoid the use of levels in your workflow?

    • @KasiaZmokla
      @KasiaZmokla  3 года назад +1

      Hi Ricardo, well, basically it could be useful to generate some super quick previews for a client. But even this would be faster and more efficient with styles.
      Regarding levels - I use them a lot, sorry for the generalisation. I often recommend starting an edit with the auto levels adjustment and then fine tuning it according to our needs. To make todays edit simple - I stuck to the minimum amount of my fav tools. It felt super weird to do everything on the background layer, but why not :)

    Kasia, I just wait until the version 22. The new features in V21 are too little for me to upgrade from v20 to v21. Bracketing and blending features within CAP1 would make me happy.

      You are 100% right Willem. Seems there is a sort of "race" in the photo editing software market and they have to come up with something new twice a year. I'm on subscription plan, so will always get the new upgrade within my annual fee. Knowing what's inside the 21 box it doesn't make sense to upgrade now. Enjoy editing and let's wait and see what's around the corner :D

    Hi, Kasia. I don´t use the speed editor. One question: You aply curves, and at shadows you go down with the curve, adding yellow. Then, with color grading you add some red to the shadows. Can you do all with color grading, or with curves?

    • @KasiaZmokla
      @KasiaZmokla  3 года назад +1

      Hi Eduardo, in theory you can do all with one tool, but I observed that adding color with Curves gives very reach, beautiful tones. It is not the easiest method, but I like experimenting that way.

      @KasiaZmokla  3 года назад

      Well, they have to make fuzz about something, it’s called marketing :) On a positive note - there are people who have to edit big amounts of images daily, hopefuly it makes their job easier.

  • @unoengborg
    @unoengborg 3 года назад +1

    Not as useful as i t could have been. My main problem is that it doesn't work for layers. If you have images with laers, you should be able to select a layer in one image and all edits to that layer should go into all images with the same layer name. It should also be possible to create layers with the same name on multiple images. However I do like the shortcuts for changeing brush size without popping up a large dialog box

    • @KasiaZmokla
      @KasiaZmokla  3 года назад

      Yeah, the layers, it is entirely different story... If you wanted you could have it pulled out and added to the chosen tools in the full-screen mode. For now my opinion is again that sometimes taking this sort of shortcuts ends up with doing the job twice. Maybe it works for different sort of photos anyways.
      The brush? I simply right click anywhere in the image and adjust from there. Three keys + pad is not very comfortable on a laptop to adjust flow...

    • @unoengborg
      @unoengborg 3 года назад

      I think it is easier to get the right size, when you don't have a black dialog that may cover the things you intend to brush

    • @KasiaZmokla
