    Crazy! This was posted 4 years ago and I just found it at the right time in my life. What a great video you created here for us!!! This is quality teaching! Thank you so much for uploading and sharing it this way!

    Finally, the teacher who shows how we can understand and move on our own, not for having fun just during the class, awesome! I have been practising for a couple of years in studios and online but your explaining of sun Saluts is eyes opening for me, simple, logical. For the first time so clear: number of breath counting etc. Thank you🙏🏻

    Thank you so much. I'm a beginner and I actually wanted to learn the basics of Ashtanga practice and not just a workout. Thanks so much again as I cannot go to a proper class right now. Love all the way from India.

      The love is received. Thank you. Once you have the basics, then I suggest seeking out a teacher to study with to learn the rest. (Once we are allowed back outside)

      Ashtanga Nurse the only downside is that some studios teach what people want to learn your practice is more traditional, and you don’t change the names of the asanas you even pronounce them and you write them in some of your videos, you go the whole Nine yards, thanks!

    This is awesome. I found one of your beginner videos first and i found it difficult to follow along, but this is great!! Being able to really learn the movements so I can do it on my own and don’t have to stop to look at the screen is just fabulous! Thank you!

    Thank you for this! I'm a beginner at yoga but have found myself looking for something different from what I've been trying. Ashtanga seems to be right up my alley and this video was challenging, but approachable. I appreciate the spaces in-between instruction to let me focus while I move through the poses. Even though i kept having to pause between rounds, I feel satisfied having made it all the way through the session. Thank you for the informative, no-nonsense, and understandable video!

    Thank you. I can feel you speak and teach from love. I really wanted to start practicing Ashtanga after one year of Kundalini and half year of nothingness, I missed yoga but didn't know where to start. This is my first time with Ashtanga and I hope it to be the first of many.

    I started reading your book a while ago, but life got in the way and I didn't finish it. Last week some breathing space started opening up and I picked up your 20 minute Ashtanga Flow. The thing is, I never connected the author of the book with the author of that video until I read the description in this one. Now I'm interested in learning much more about Ashtanga, breathing, and finally finishing that book.
    Ashtanga (when you look at a whole series) seems challenging and a bit intimidating, but I believe that your guidance from these videos will help me find a way to learn more and improve. Thank you!

      I'm honored that you are reading the book. The practice of yoga is a life long journey of discovery within ourselves. I hope that these videos serve you well as you begin the path.
      Please let me know if you have any questions along the way. I would be happy to help.

      There are many ways to do it and it depends on which muscle group you want to work on. So it may not have been the way I was teaching it for this video but it doesn't mean that you were doing improperly, only different.

    Thank you so much. I’m starting my journey into Ashtanga and to be honest I got overwhelmed with the amount of videos out there that claimed to be for beginners but were too advanced for me.
    Also, I’m very curious about what the “series” are and how many of them there are in total.

    • @AshtangaNurse
      @AshtangaNurse  3 года назад +1

      Glad that this introduction series was helpful! There are 6 series of asana practice in Ashtanga yoga, the 7th series is a family practice which is the the most difficult practice and most rewarding.

    thank you morgan great vid. I started yoga 1 year ago very gentle but i am in awe of Astanga practioners so i thought id have a go. Why is there the difficult arm balance at the end? forgive if you answer it on later day. it was tough but i can understand why it makes the body strong.

    • @AshtangaNurse
      @AshtangaNurse  3 года назад +1

      That’s a great question about the difficult lift up arm balance. Are you familiar with PNF technique? Basically the muscles contract for a period of time and then they can release deeper. It’s one of the reasons it is done at the end, to facilitate a deeper relaxation.
      Awesome work on diving into this practice!

    • @tyharness2527
      @tyharness2527 3 года назад +1

      @@AshtangaNurse thank-you, im not up on pnf. i notice that sometimes we're asked to tense everything in corpse pose for a couple of seconds and then release everything which does feel good.
      And yep same sort of feeling with the arm balance in these practices.
      luckily i can do 10 quick breaths- joking i guess 5 honest breaths but its getting easier every practice.

    Could you recommend books on yoga that will guide me into deepening my practice?
    I dream of opening a yoga studio at some point. You inspire me in so many levels.
    Thank you for sharing your kind and true being with each practice.

    • @AshtangaNurse
      @AshtangaNurse  3 года назад +1

      It is common to recommend the Gita, and Iyengar’s light on yoga is a fantastic place to start. Other inspiring books are The Miracle Morning, Daring Greatly. I wrote a book about the science behind the yoga practice. I don’t know the first thing about opening a studio but I do know that great teachers often need someone more business minded to run a studio.

    Your thoughts on coming to Ashtanga in your 40s after almost a decade hiatus from the practice? It's a physically demanding practice, and I am concerned about potential age-related risks.

    • @AshtangaNurse
      @AshtangaNurse  6 месяцев назад +1

      This is a great question. I could probably make a video on it. There are a lot of considerations. It’s a case by case basis, are there any injuries, movement patterns from work (like hunched over the hood of a car from being a mechanic) is it a mental thing to be like you were back in your 30’s.
      I think it’s a safe practice because you know what pose comes next and there are no surprises, BUT (that’s a capital BUT) because of the repetitive movements it can cause strain and stress joints if there is no focus on strength. Practice in your 40’s and beyond should focus on end range strength to build mobility and flexibility as we age. Send me an email at morgan@socallifecenter.com if you want to continue this conversation

      I would suggest that you pay attention to your pelvic tilt and the movement into the asana. It may be from a lack of engagement in the transverse abdominal muscles but you would want to check with a teacher in person or online

    • @AshtangaNurse
      @AshtangaNurse  2 года назад

      But you got back up both times! That’s what really matters and makes a difference.
      Over time balance will improve. It’s usually off the first time we try and sometimes the first 50 times… then it may click. Kudos on you for trying!
