Wow cockpit view was so much better in shift 1. During the time of release I always felt shift 2s cockpit view was off and now the mystery finally ends haha. 12 years later haha
interesting how in Shift 2 the lights inside the tunnel interacts with the car material and also the shadows when there is an area without lights, it gets dark completely, you get the same effect when you are driving in a road at night while you travel to another region of your country or just around your own town, i remember that because i used to travel a lot in cars as a kid, so that's a great detail added by slightly mad studios.
No matter what, I adore S1's lighting, if just feels waaay better than in S2U. The bloom looks softer, the overall contrast feels nicer, and the foliage (especially the trees) are great-looking even by today's standards. Not to mention the way motion blur works in S1 is miles better (softer, much more pleasing to the eye) than harsh S2U's motion blur. Yes, whites are blown out more often than not, but it greatly increases the contrast there, and it really works well for the game. It reminds me of other racers of the same era, like Forza Motorsport 3 & 4, or Gran Turismo 5. Somehow those games had this personality to them, looking somewhat realistic - just enough to aim for a more grounded visuals, but still retaining some artistic choices (especially in lighting and color grading) here and there, while S2U (and consequently more and more other racing games) looks more generic while trying to appeal to a much more 'photorealistic' visual style. That's just me, of course, just my 2 cents on it.
Even though it's not as realistic, I enjoy the field of view from the cockpit cam in Shift 2, plus you have the option of the helmet cam. I noticed recently as I was playing through part 1 again that the cockpit cam can be disorienting with the field of view it offers, to be fair I've been spoiled by gt7 so to compare them wouldn't be fair but I still come back to play these two classics everytime.
It's 2024 and I miss playing this game Shift 2 is my first game, I spent a lot of time playing it and last year I tried Shift 1, the gameplay was easier and fun to play now my PC is broken and there is no money to buy new hardware, I can't wait to play when the PC is fixed
@@andrejtb1 1080P is still a good HD monitor. My Gigabyte M28U 4K 144Hz IPS monitor cost about $600 so they are not cheap but definitely nice. When I make 4K Ultra graphic videos my RTX 3080 GPU runs at 98% to 99% and is like a small space heater. 🙂 Takes a good GPU card also to take advantage of 4K for creating stuff.

I played both games extensively on Xbox 360 back then. 2:40 So i personally think that Shift has actually better graphics in many cases. This effect is due to the more realistic coloring and contrast. Shift 2 is simply oversaturated, has to much contrast and its shadows are to strong. Otherwise Shift 2 has obviously WAY better lighting. But somehow the reflective asphalt surface is gone, which is not realistic. Asphalt can defenitely be reflective. And Shift 2 lighting tends to be to bright sometimes like in 3:45 and its unrealistic that u see the rear brake lights being reflected on the asphalt in daylight. Shift 2 has an unnatural, waxy-plastic look to me. So the overall look of Shift is more pleasing then Shift 2 for me, despite having worse lighting effects. But gameplay wise Shift 2 is better, cause i always use the helmet cam. And the helmet cam with the moving head is exactly what i love. I nowadays drive in Assetto Corsa and i use similar neck fx settings to imitate the head movement from Shift 2. And the night races are a BIG bonus in Shift 2.
They both have good points and bad points ,for instance in ambush canyon inside the tunnel shift looks better while shift 2 looks to dark but outside on the track everything looks washed out ,no colour and bad lighting effects ,so I think they are both good for different reasons !
Now, I've never played either Shift or Shift 2 (though I do plan to get around to playing both), but the impression I get from this comparison is that while Shift 2 has better, more complex graphics on a technical level, Shift has a better art style and more tastefully utilizes visual tools such as bloom.
There are some graphic improvements but oddly the choice of shades and colors is less happy on Shift 2. There is a more realistic side to the first episode, where you can almost "smell" the dust and the asphalt. And I think that in the first episode, the cockpit view offered more feeling of speed than in the second.
NFS SHIFT 1 & 2 are equally impressive. Such a shame that EA killed the SHIFT sub franchise in order to focus on Project CARS 3 (NFS SHIFT 3 should've been)...
i love shift 2 drive and visuals, would have love seen a new nfs with open world pursuit/festival and this kind of car phisycs, like day most wanted, night carbon, and pro street level festivals with day night time circles, on real and nfs lore tracks, lore. but with a better aproach on the totaled, so the car doesnt feel too heavy or just too crazy when they roll up. basicly get everything from the golden and not only focus on graphics or camera shaking when turning or crashing, heck even drift has no point now, if you can drive grip fine, but you dont need to drift every corner, mw cb and ps make this good, shift and shift 2 driving style was nice too, and drift was a little more difficult but no need to be a master, control makes it easy enough.
Car control: Shift 1 is more realistic, Shift 2 looks already ragdollish. Graphics: Take out the titles and ask someone which one has better graphics I can guarantee most people would pick left. :D

SHIFT 1’s colors looks far more saturated and appealing, whilst SHIFT 2’s lighting maybe superior, it is far less saturated than before. SHIFT 1’s sense of speed on the cockpit view is honestly more intimidating than the cockpit on SHIFT 2, it’s more or so planted on. SHIFT 2’s had more details and better textures. -More cars -an interesting career mode - And difficult but rewarding progression

NFS SHIFT 2 has the 2nd most cars in NFS Franchise only behind Unbound. It has 158 cars (10 percent from GT5's 1088 total cars).

Os dois jogos são ótimos, porem eu gosto é de jogar sem ajuda de tração freio e com a musica no volume 0. Unico ponto negativo pra mim é o barulho dos pneus, deve ser massa em um coockpit bom.
