my momma always told us kids everything Hank is saying in this song. she never could sleep till we was all home, or at least heard from us to know we was ok. this song holds so much for me, and brings back a whole lot of memories.
Luke The Drifter Which is none another than the greatest man Hank Williams Sr I be grew up listening to him how I miss those childhood days oh Mama and Daddy are gone now but I play the ole Time songs and close my eyes and picture those lost and treasured moments from a time so close to my heart music plays on the memories linger on the tears fall down but I still love them ole Time classic there'll never be another Hank Williams Sr nor The Possum George Jones time moves on there's no one that can fill those shoes because they were true gifted amazing men
Thankin bout my mother, had 9 kids and loved us all the same, gone now but Never will be forgotten. Thanks Vinyhilist for this song "I Dreamed About Mama"
If you ever want to know where 'True Country Music' came from, well this is one of the classic's of yesteryear by the Great Hank Williams "Luke the Drifter" There will never be another Hank Williams Snr. - Rocky Don - Cheers
I guess this song is the one I think of the most when I remember my mom. This is one of his greatest songs in my opinion, I can't hear it without wiping a tear from my eyes. Just like most of his music it is timeless, hard to believe he only lived to be 29 their is not one artist today that even compares.
From one Eric to another- At 60 years of age, I'm teary-eyed just reading some of these comments. Hank was my father's idol & I grew up in the '60s listening to 'Greatest Hits Vol 1' & 'Vol 2' in mono, not stereo. Hank LIVED his songs- you can see by the words & hear it in his voice. Hank Sr IS #1!!
I have a few CD's of Hank Sr. but These are the first time i'm hearing them and to hear um over and over again boy a'm i glad vinyhilist has them. Thanks for sending them my way. There will NEVER EVER be another singer like Old Hank William Sr.
My grandpa had/now I do a bunch of Hank records and this one too, I love this song but when my granny was still alive and grandpa would listen to this song he'd get all upset and grandma would get pissed and say "damnit Sam why do you listen to that song it always makes you cry" Gramps would just be like "mama made the best God damn biscuits".
My mom passed from cancer also, in 1985 at age 57. I'm 60 now & it sends shivers down my spine to think that I am alive longer than she was :-(( RIP mom
Some people think his Luke the Drifter singles are even better than his Hank Williams singles. I wouldn't go that far, but they add an extra layer of greatness to his already formidable legacy.
wow understand this song to the heart first time to hear it i know wht all feeling the song talks about very touching when she is no longer wit love u mom R.I.P
I lost my momma to Brest cancer. She was 55. I now have terminal lung cancer an never smoked a day in my life. I'm 56 I'll be running to her open arms one day soon.
IMO, anyone that still has vinyl from this era is a collector or very very lucky. I wish I had my collection that I had to sell many years ago. Ty for the upload vinyhilist.
I am 80 years old I lost my mother 16 years ago I can say with a smile my mother was like that . She was 92 at her passing . There is another song I love don't remember just now who sang it think it may have been been the Stanley brother's mother is not dead she is only sleeping
Am excited & very happy to say that I just received this wonderful "Hank- Luke the Drifter" MGM 78 rpm in V++ condition from eBay!!! Funny how, just like this song, my mom would always know when I came home- whether it was 11:00pm, 1:00am, even 3:00am. She told me the next day & was always right on the button with the time! I've been told that I should NOT listen to such sad songs. I lost her back in 1985 & this song is a reality check. I KNOW she's never coming back, but I can dream & remember all the good times with her. I wish I'd have told her how special she was & how much she meant to me BEFORE she passed on. Lesson learned TOO late!!
I just picked up a 78 rpm of this from eBay in V++ condition for $17.00 with shipping. Not too bad for a very decent copy. You can get a 45 rpm copy, too. CD's are also available- you can never have enough "Hank".
No one, but no one will ever equal Hank when it come to these inspirational songs.
we had this same record and I'd play it as a kid over and over and cry every time.. Now I'm in my 70's and still love it just as much..
my momma always told us kids everything Hank is saying in this song. she never could sleep till we was all home, or at least heard from us to know we was ok. this song holds so much for me, and brings back a whole lot of memories.
Same here, Stewart, same here!
Thats the exact feeling that brought me back to this song tonight.
I hear you and understand, brother

I learned to play guitar listening to Hank. He was and always will be the BEST
so beautiful there is something about his voice that gets to me
That voice is a voice of sadness, hurt and anguish- the way Hank lived. How many 'happy' songs have you heard from Hank? Not many!
There will never be another like him I love him always will
Brings Luke the drifter right back to life!!!
