3 years later, but the best thing is to have OSD with home direction and distance + flight controller for RTH, stabilization and cruise. I entered 2020 and because the fast development of the hobby, you and ppl like you I can soar in the skies by myself in full HD :) GG dude!
Once you're airborne establishing landmarks to your ground position is crucial. First time for me was nerve racking even with a spotter as it's super easy to lose orientation. Never rely on your spotter too much, I destroyed a plane as I lost orientation and my spotter lost visual due to low sun and trees. I had to put the plane into failsafe and ditch, recovered most electronics but destroyed a battery, airframe and lost a camera. If flying somewhere new getting a good lie of the land first is a good idea even looking on Google maps satellite images can be useful, things look very different up there.
James: Another great video and a good project. However, I am an OLD cart and it took to almost the ten minute mark to figure out that FPV meant first person view! It would help if you would explain the acronyms at the start to help those who didn't have this technology when we grew up. I had just about decided that it meant "Flaming Paranoia Verification"! Keep up the good work and I will keep sending the likes.
Thanks! Where do you suggest I fly? I guess you might not know since I live in the US but what would you suggest because there are some FAA flight rules i bet. Thanks! :)
Nice Video, enjoyed it.. I enjoy to see getting more People in this hobby. I am missing a autopilot.. they are not expensive anymore. So you have a proper fail-safe. Even if I like Spectrum (they r making the best controllers), the signal is just not stable enough for FPV. (My experience) (Just a weird combination -> 600mW Transmitter and a Spectrum-Remote) FrSky made a new low frequency standard that's affordable. (R9M) A video about a autopilot would be cool :) (And a OSD) Keep on doing! Greetings from Switzerland
Not that this would make much of a difference compared to having a GoPro sitting in the front of the airplane, but I would suggest having the antennae pointing towards the tail of the airplane rather than vertical. Would be more aerodynamic. Love the fake eyes on the FPV ;-)
James, I'm a bit late to the party but I've been watching all of your videos. They are great fun to watch. Great Job. I'd like to start FPV. I'd rather have a screen to goggles but I'm not sure if that would work. Could you link some goggles or an appropriate screen. I'm not sure what will link with the transmitter. Thanks.
What about a petrol engine for more lift power and range, then have the controls in a vehicle with someone driving to extend the range of the controls and the camera image?
These can be useful if you wanna spy on an abandoned building or a place you want to sneak into.Just fly one of these overhead and then use the video/photos to see how to break in and where security is.
Pretty awesome, dude! 😃 Speaking about that kind of airplane, do you have any idea of how to search for carbon fiber tubes like those on Banggood or something? ( I'm from Brazil, so I don't have the option to buy it from the US or EU... 😕)
Good question! You can, but you have to get a headset along with some prescription lenses that fit inside the eyecups. Most major brands, like Fatshark, supply these.
Reuben Stephen John You can also use the box style FPV goggles as they are polystyrene foam and have more space, I had to use a knife the make a little more space for my glasses in my Eachine box goggles.
Hello I like your videos. I wish you all the best with working with flighttest. It is great that communities can support people like yourself in promoting the hobby. Well done in getting a visit to flying fest hope you did the u.k. proud. I would like to know how you can get lipo batteries delivered from banggood(china) Were you not hit with customs fees and did the royal mail not refuse to deliver. Did they come with courier.
4:05 that's actually very very dangerous , plugging 2 different capacity batteries in parrallel is super bad , the small one will hve discharged while the big one won't
That's a good point! To be clear (and I wasn't while recording this), I was meaning that if this 3000mah battery wasn't so large you could fit smaller batteries in there. :)
As long as both batteries have the same voltage, when plugging them in parallel there is absolutely no problem using 2 different sized batteries to power the airplane.
@@sufysprojects2689 no they won't. The voltage will be exactly the same in both batteries. There is nothing wrong with connecting them in parallel. If the smaller battery tries to sag under load, the larger battery would supply more of the amperage. It is physically impossible for the two batteries to have different voltages when electrically connected.
Can you do a video on cameras with the cheeper way ! im only got the jest of it! its like a $15.. box ..2 side taped to the goggles and its gots a card in it! HD- .. only 1 FPV -$12 camera :>)…. ???
I'd hate to look stupid (9:12) by cutting the thumb out of my gloves...and wearing an FPV headset with googly eyes and goofy antennae sticking out. ;-)
@@Project-Air Ahh . . . I thought it looked like that kind of place . . . I'm down in Hertfordshire. My boys and I are just getting started. We love Flite Test :)
That is to say, I've always added the rudder channel to this airframe to smooth out the yaw, an to slip while in the air for better stability. IMO it should have always been a 4 chan.

First. ... don't tell anyone, I definitely have work I should be doing
I’m gonna tell ur parents
Excellent video. Straightforward, no-mystery entry for newcomers. I like the new intro, too. :)

Flight controller next? Personally i never fly fpv without RTH function.

It's still time to do some projects like this : )

Thank you guys for the suggestion, will try👍
How far can it go
How fast does it go ?

Funny thought, you might be the guy to fit a vacuum robot lidar to fit on a drone
Is that tegs nose?
Yes, the hill is Tegg's Nose. I flew RC gliders off it for 30 years starting in the 1980s.
@@timwhittey4121 I'm curious this plane he made on the video, how far could it actually fly ?
Do you need a license to fly a r/c plane (in America)
Can you show how to build a 4G LTE version of this?
I've done this by adding a raspberry pi and running mavproxy on it. But it does require you to have a flight controller in the plane.
bro instead of seeing the viu of the FPV camera from goggles can u try seeing the vu from the laptop or mobile
are you in england???
