This movie was lovely. I thought I saw all of Ms. Young's movies on line at least five times. I'm so glad I found this one!!! Thanks so much. FYI. If you enjoyed this movie then you will love "The farmers Daughter". I believe she won the Academy Award for it. Thanks again.
Yes recently watched that too and she was such a great beauty too. Also watched another one made when she was.older don't remember the name but its here on yt
Loretta Young in fine fettle! A movie with meaningful regard for "pollitics." Great role for Willie Best, too. Class lines erased! Thank you for sharing.
I'm glad to hear that Willie Best had a better role in this move. So glad that someone was thinking of other actors to shine. Thanks to those women that help portray women that are strong and determined to make a living for themsevles instead of being just decorations.
I love that he was given a better role such as "The Lady from Cheyenne" compared to the one other from "Pillow to Post" which was funny but not given credit to the laugh he gave to us which I mean his name was not even placed in the movie to indicate he was 50% part of this film. Shame on those that wouldn't do the proper manner of a good comedian during the 40s. Willie was given the role to bring luggage to the rental units of this community for enlisted men of the military. Plus do errands around the place too.
@sarahgodwin-xd1wr been too long ago for a person of a certain age like me to remember his character's name but he was the black man who called the facts straight forward, no beating around the bush or sugar coating.
That felt good! Thanks for the upload. Ah, there was never a more perfect female than Loretta Young. She had a TV show when I was a kid in the 60s and I loved her then like a dear aunt. She was still beautiful, elegant and gracious even when she was older.
not sure if anyone gives a damn but if you are bored like me during the covid times you can watch all the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend for the last few weeks xD
I absolutely love this film. I have never seen it before, and I am a big Loretta Young fan. Robert Preston is dreamy here. Oh thank you so much for uploading this great film. It's wonderful!
The last sentences could spoil it, but I won't let them ... it's one of the most wonderful classical movies I've ever seen. Since I helplessly love classical Hollywood, I more often than not have to "overlook" the degrading way non-WASPS and females are portrayed, but not here: a sweet, smart, strong, and lovely leading lady! A wise and kind black man. Of course it's a comedy, but who would hold that against it - humor being a classical weapon in favor of the oppressed at all times. This is a movie to sit back to, let all defenses down, and just enjoy! Thanks so much for posting!
+A. DUBITANTE Did you notice that the wise and kind black man had his head rubbed for "good luck". Stepen Fetchit, I am sure was thrilled to have the work, he was a brilliant comedian, but he played roles that demeaned black men. For the most part, those roles were all that were available for black men. By the way, the name of his character was probably not "George", that was a name given to black men who were not important enough to be called by their correct names. Hollywood has been a pit of racism from its beginning. Maybe you could google Stepen Fetchit to find out more about the man behind the role and the time in which he lived.
Juice Man that wasn't the famous, wonderful and fabulously rich Steppin Fetchit, but a man called Willie Best in the role of George. Maybe you can't tell one Black from another? Of course Hollywood was racist, as well as misogynistic. My point is, that in as large a dream-machine as that you're liable to find all sorts. And this one a good sort. As I happen to be hooked on classical Hollywood for the way they told stories back then, for the often brilliant camera, the way they talked, the ... etc. etc., I am delighted to find films that allow me to keep my brains working while wathcing them AND have fun doing so. This is definitely one of those!
"......films that allow me to keep my brains working while watching them AND have fun doing so." You said it perfectly for me. Everything you said in both posts, I completely agree with. There was a beauty and goodness then that I almost never seen in much later films. Thanks for expressing how I feel.
So pleased with this movie! Love the way it all turned out, and you gotta love Loretta Young! She is so very versatile (was... RIP). The "ladies" were so great! As another viewer mentioned, humor but very topical and important issues were addressed. How wonderful having the former slave as a very integral - and intelligent - character in the story - wonderful for the times, I mean. You know, Mae West (earlier) and Bette Davis, anytime I saw them in movies, the script included very informal, normal dialogue between their race and others. I always wonder if the stars had anything to do with that... I'm sure they were glad to portray those characters, else hypocrisy would have shown. Thank you!
Yes , I love the film , too, and Loretta Young!!! I loved the way that it ended except I think that Annie should have run for office and stayed politics. !!! This is one of the best movies that I have seen in a long time !!!!
There's no doubt that much of Hollywood's output of that time paved the way for the Civil Rights Era. Jack Benny and Rochester showed the world that we're all human whatever our skin tone - just to cite one example
What a Wonderful movie which shows a woman can be intelligent and determined to get the Suffragette the vote and to pursue elective office too. Whoever wrote the script was a wise individual. Thank you!
Funny how Robert Preston plays a similar character with the same views in "How the West Was Won" 23 years later. In looking back, I feel he was someone underrated as an actor. He was very good.
What a controversial film for its time! Apart from women getting the vote, did anyone notice that it was a black servant who schooled Annie in political process??? Wow!! Thanks for posting this gem!
Yes , this film was terrific, and it brought women especially Loretta Young into a very high intellectual , sensible, and intelligent place !!! She was brilliant and a very, very great actress !!! And I liked it so much that the black gentleman schooled her in how to lobby effectively!!! It was lovely how he helped her !!!
A top story very different shows how people can be reasonable if they try a big win for human VALUES and the wright kind of Justice thank for a great movie ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
No. Grandpa from "The Munsters" was Al Lewis. I can see where you might think that though as the film is so dark at times that I can see a slight resemblance in Edward Arnold to Grandpa Munster! lol I didn't find Loretta Young very convincing as a ditz! She comes off too intelligent.
Thanks for sharing it! I always enjoy watching Great Old Movies though. 👍👌👏
And of course, I'm a subscriber!
Thanks Again Though.

Excellent story! Thanks for posting!
Annie is a VIP. And Loretta Young's image perfectly matches it. Wonderful! Thanks. RIP 合掌
I am so happy to see William Best with a great part in this picture. I loved it. Thanks for posting.
Thank you, Frank Lloyd. You were ahead of your time.

Wonderful movie! Loretta Young 79 years ago such a great actor. 🙏
G M, Don't be politically correct, say "actress". She has a pussy so she's a actress.
And yes, it was good seeing Willie Best in a very complimentary intelligent part!
I absolutely love this film. I have never seen it before, and I am a big Loretta Young fan. Robert Preston is dreamy here. Oh thank you so much for uploading this great film. It's wonderful!
What a great movie. Loretta Young is my favorite actress bc of her personal convictions and I sure like George.

Awesome film, smart, funny, full of surprises. Not at all the typical cowboy movie.
Love Loretta Young, always have!

Great movie! I loved it.
Such a good movie!!💞💞

A bit exaggerated, nonetheless Wyoming was 1st Territory to give equal rights to women; equal child custody and support to name 2

Good old time movie.
Sorry, too much music in the first ten minutes. I got on my horse and rode away.
I gotta admire your sticking power.
never felt so good.
Way to go George!

good movie
Wyoming territory was the first government in the world to guarantee women the right to vote in 1869.
Actually New Zealand beat that by 3 yrs. Australia was second 🤷♀️
Wyoming the date was 1869 New Zealand it was 1893 and Australia 1902 I just looked up all thre
we've gone downhill ever since
FANTASTIC!!!! GO WYOMING!!!
Video quality is really too bad!
Soundtrack as well. To much raucous music in the beginning.
02:57 That's some serious air pollution going on!!
yep, I believe that's coal!
Reminds me about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, from that I bet it is gonna be a doozey

Loretta good in this kind of role but a feeble ending
Maureen Crawford right?! Seems more like a punishment than a happy End for her to get that xxxhole of a man. And give up politics to boot.
@@Weirdkauz Sad but true.

And that there is exactly why women should never have gotten the vote. I'll now hand the comments section over to the woke feminists . . .
cant get Into this even though I do like Loretta Young.
