I had no idea this boss could be parried! I assumed it couldn't since I'm pretty sure base game Radahn could not be parried. I definitely want to try this out; parrying makes the combat so much more engaging imo since you you're not just wasting time by dodging any time you don't have an opening to attack. I really hope souls games going forward use the Sekiro-style perfect guard system like Lies of P does. It's just so much better when you can make progress in a fight by focusing on defense.
I’m 100% with yah, parrying is the new dodge roll, it’s just fuckin so satisfying to pull off.
You can parry almost all kind of 'normal' attacks and weapons, except:
1. A dual handed COLOSSAL weapon (other weapons are ok).
2. Jump attacks
3. Few AoW and some of the stages. For instance you can parry the River or Blood AoW, as long as you're close enough to the actual sword than the blood splash.
@@thepainphantom That's only true for pvp. There are a lot of boss and enemy attacks that are inexplicably impossible to parry. Only about half the bosses in the game can be parried.
@@bunklypeppz Many if not most of them can, the hints are their size that's around 2-4x bigger than us (that pumpkin jar enemy can't be parried tho). Margit and Morgott, Erdtree burial dog (that annoying scary statues), Malenia, Radagon, Commander Niall, etc.
@@thepainphantom I've done an all-parry run in the base game where I fought every parryable boss while only dealing dmg through riposte after stunning them with parries so I'm aware of which bosses in the main game can be parried and which can't. There are numerous weapon-using bosses that can't be parried (and of course most of the colossal or beast-type bosses), even when it seems like it should be possible-- a few examples are Godrick, Mogh, Beast Clergyman/Maliketh and there are plenty of others especially if you include non-remembrance bosses.
Also, like I mentioned before, Radahn couldn't be parried in the base game, even though he had similar looking attacks and weapons as in the DLC fight, so that is why I was initially surprised to find that he could be parried.

I didn’t realize until I tried it but parrying his basic attacks are stupid easy. Phase 2 gets a little tricky since missing a parry doesn’t give you much chance to recover and the light effects can be distracting, just focusing on his swords movement pretty much guarantees a successful parry.
Congrats bro, GG! You can also parry the double hand swing left side, but it's tricky since it's weird delayed so usually the instinct just kicked-in and roll.

Agreed. I managed to pull it off by parrying but it took a good few attempts. I learnt that the trick is to stay right in front of him so you can see everything he does. There are a few attacks that you have to dodge like the big golden combo where he slams down at the end and also the attack where he throws meteors. If you are lucky tho, you can keep him in a parry loop if you stay close. Keep trying man, you got this 👌
2nd phase is the same parry attacks like first just with his bullshit teleportation mixed in

Do it man, it's more enjoyable, more rewarding and more bearable. And of course you can parry that annoying 3 combo cross attack.

@@CondeDrareg No, but adds backstep i-frames and better roll, decreases your defense though. I put it cause i like to dodge some attacks with backstep.

@man____moth6468 it's not impressive lol, it makes the fight much easier, it's more impressive to beat him by dodging all attacks and counterattacking.
Man. Almost no hit. I didn’t even know that he could be parried cause I didn’t try. But this definitely went from being the hardest boss I’ve done to much easier. Now I don’t feel obligated to use cheesier builds to beat him. My only really complaint isn’t about how much health he has but that must builds except bleed and bonk stick builds feel underpowered against him. Or at least very underwhelming. Even try power standing the two best great swords in the game and it just felt bad to fight against. But thank you for the new knowledge

I agree that all this can be done, especially phase 1 is totally manageable, even fun after a while.

is it possible to be perfectly consistent with parrying his attacks? i'm finding myself in a situation where if he does the fast slash like in 0:13, i have to react parry asap that leaves me to parry his stomp accidentally and it's quite annoying if he mixes it with his roll catch move too where he swipes the ground (not the meteor attack).
He has nothing consistent. Practice is what you need, the muscle memory eventyualy will prevail.

To 1:07 ηταν αρρωστο parry και μ θυμισε αυτο στο Pontiff που μετα το ρολ σε κλωνο κανεις Parry. Ωραια ανακαλυψη εκανες εκει!
I did a parry playthrough in DS3 and it was disappointing to me how many bosses you just couldn't parry, or maybe you could, but you couldn't riposte them so there's no point, so by the time I was 2/3 into the game, there was really no point for me to parry most things. I am so glad Elden Ring made it so you're able to parry bigger and stronger enemies. Having it so that you have to parry them multiple times was a great choice that made them not too easy either.
I was also initially happy that Elden Ring allowed more parries, but at the time you need 3x to break their stance, it is no longer worth it. No point, as you say. Just take that fingerprint shield and sit behind it, taking all the hits.
Parry runs are legitimate challenges (now do it with scimitar parry :)), but very tedious. Sometimes the enemies will not comply and instead spam some unparryable aoe or space themselves so you have to dodge instead.
Clearly not all combat methods are considered equal in this game.

@@gediminasmorkys3589 what I did to counter that was simply having another set of weapons (duel wielding katanas in base game and backhand blades in dlc) and also a different set of talismans for those weapons. I basically ended up making 2 builds in one and that was the most fun build I made so far since it was more flexible. I understand that parrying 3x isn't worth it if you want to kill the enemy faster, but I like that, I want the challenge. I was actually disappointed by how easy Rellana and Romina were if you parried cuz they only took 2x and 1x parries. Parry builds aren't perfect and are very tedious at times, but I view them more like a "you feel like such a badass when you pull it off that it's worth it" kind of build.

I honestly think it would have taken me longer to beat him without parties than with parries.
it's not about how long it will take, personally i find the fight with parries more enjoyable to learn on this boss.
Very nice though wouldnt it be more effective if for regular hits you'd use normal weapon with higher dmg?
Just using it to build status effect and insane crit damage. Remember daggers do in an insane amount of crit damage; paired with the dagger talisman 👀

Απορία, το talisman of all crucibles γτ? Απλα για το challenge?
σε μειώνει το defense αλλα σου δίνει backstep i-frames και καλύτερο roll.
Φτασαμε στο σημειο το parry να ειναι το easy mode του παιχνιδιου. Ετσι τελικα το εφαγα και εγω γιατι μου εβγαλε την πιστη με roll και ugs. Να πουμε επισης οτι αυτο το boss ειναι πολυ βολικο για parry, σου δινει πολυ χρονο να διαβασεις τις κινησεις του. Αρε miyazaki, κατεστρεψες το καλυτερο dlc με το τελευταιο boss.
Όντως έπρεπε να ήταν ένα καλύτερο

Είναι η buckler, το λεγόμενο "ταψί", είναι small shield και παραδοσιακά απο τα Dark Souls η καλύτερη ασπίδα για parries. Με L2 γίνεται το parry, ash of war δεν έχει αλλά μπορείς να το ενισχύσεις το parry της με κάποιο απο τα golden parry ή carian retaliation που σε δίνουν ένα extra frame και μεγαλύτερο range.

@@Valziris Ειναι δύσκολο αλλα οχι στο επίπεδο waterflow dance της Μαλένια. Οι κινήσεις του ειναι πιο βατές και εχει καλό pacing η μάχη που δεν σε εκνευρίζει σε μεγάλο βαθμο όπως αλλα boss.

Definitely not the fastest, but by parrying you can ignore 90% of what makes this fight hard.

Absolutely not. Easiest is fingerprint shield with barricade shield and all the guarding talismans + golden braid. With only some dodging (to have room for more attack), that is by far the safest method.
This video is a multiple try video, people do not become this good unless they do the fight over and over again. The boss has to comply sometimes, to spam parryable attacks and be pretty well behaved about everything else. What you see here is one of those cases.
I'd kill to have these frames, everything would be much easier. Stuck on a shitty ps4 though
