In January 1989 I drove a 77 Chevy from Texas up to Alaska, bed full of a 4x4 quad, 5 spare tires for the truck,20 extra gallons of gas, tools and all my survival gear packed into the cab, just a 22 year old kid with cash in my pocket going to a place I always wanted to see, spent 4 years up there having the time of my life, drove out of there in January of 93 all the way down to Florida than Arizona. I am hoping drive from Deadhorse Alaska to Key West in the next few years after knocking a few more farther away destinations off my bucket list.
Listening to Jim and his brief description of that adventure, makes everything that I have experienced in my short 52 years, seems like nothing in comparison. I’m almost too intimidated to read his book. That is something that I can’t even fathom of attempting an adventure of that magnitude. As for the C60……Cole……I’m happy for ya dude! The ropes down car is a BMW 2002 coupe. Fantastic suspension for it's time and a hot weekend racer. I learnt to drive on my dad's '72 Chevy C10 Custom Fleetside in the South East African Bush aong with a Wilys cj2a and a Landcruiser fj45. Good times. I was 11 years old.
I got a 65 c60 from a farmer near me for $250 & i really like that 67 72 C50 in the background too! Been looking for one of those for a while but never had any luck recently! Wicked build! Definitely something ive wanted to do with mine!
Cole, I have a suggestion in case the camper isn't rebuildable. Get someone to laser scan the outside and inside dimensions. That way you can recreate it from more modern materials. That way you can change appliance locations and window and door openings. This could possibly start a whole new vintage camping industry. I'm just surprised that no one has ever tried to use an Airstream style camper for the basis for a Roamer build. More aerodynamic.
pretty cool to learn some of the history of you guys, and that it goes way back, didn't just meet working later on in life. this new adventure i'm sure will shape up to be epic.

Alrighty Captain Adventure... lets see what you can do with this truck! You'll probably need to make a lot of upgrades to get that baby to Alaska, but I'm looking forward to seeing how this all goes.
One of the coolest camper conversions I've seen in a while! Excited to tag along for the next few months and watch it get transformed. I hit subscribe after watching you weld the schedule 40 pipe inside the pivot tube on the dump bed to drift it out. Great problem solving. I also ordered a copy of Jim's book because that's a crazy adventure story!
My .02 on what you should do is what ever you want... but it needs the jackknife motors text and logo on to replace the little gingerbread decoration right above the grill .
How is the fuel economy? I got a similar truck I use for scrap metal. Mine sits around collecting scrap steel until its full and then I go to the scrap yard with it. It's an International 1700 loadstar (class 7) the Chevy Equal would be a C70 or C75. It gets 6-8 MPG, I thought about making an RV out of a similar truck but the MPG makes me say no.
Toward the end of John Steinbeck's life he decide to take a ride in a 1962 Chevy / GMC around USA. He brought his dog, Charlie. Good read. Your truck reminded me of the truck in his story

Got the PTO working I would add a PTO or hydraulic winch to the rear, and an electric 12000 plus at the front as you have not got four wheel drive and with it's weight good insurance against stuck in a soft camping area.
If it was mine, I would have left the original dump bed and make the camper as a slide in truck bed camper and be able to remove the camper to use the bed of the truck and still have a dump bed. I've been in the RV industry for 20yrs.
